The Duke of Cambridge and family may be hogging UK headlines at present, but others may be more interested in a duke set to enter the realm in December. The recently unveiled KTM 1290 Super Duke R, dubbed ‘the Beast’ by its manufacturer, features a 1,301cc, 2-cylinder engine that delivers 180hp, paired with a weight of just 189 kilogrammes. KTM describes it as “hottest street-legal naked bike around.” And all this power will roll on Dunlop’s SportSmart2.
Michelin Aircraft Tire has announced it will provide its Air X radial for original equipment fitment on Dassault’s newest large cabin long range business jet, the Falcon 5X. “Michelin is proud to have been selected by Dassault as its official partner and the sole source supplier on the new Falcon 5X aircraft,” said Mathias Kratzsch, Michelin Aircraft Tire Company’s director of Marketing and Sales.

In North America, Michelin Retread Technologies has introduced an all weather traction retread, optimised for severe winter conditions. The Michelin XDS 2 Pre-Mold drive tyre retread, according to the company, can provide a 10 per cent improvement in tread life over the XDS Pre-Mold.
Goodyear’s EfficientGrip and Vector4Seasons have been selected by Italian car manufacturer Fiat to fit its latest 500 models, including the 500C and the new 500L Trekking. The models will be supplied with tyres in size 195/45R16 84V. Fiat has selected Goodyear’s EfficientGrip for the 500 and 500C cabrio version, while the Fiat 500L Trekking will roll on the Vector4Seasons. The popular mini is available in more than 100 countries, with over 1.1 million cars produced since 2007.

The system factors in pressure points at varying inflation levels and contact points to simulate cornering, acceleration, braking and the effects of strain and wear.
Goodyear is unveiling a new Eagle race tyre with roots in consumer tyre technology at this weekend’s NASCAR Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series races at the Atlanta Motor Speedway. Reversing the usual development trend of racetrack-to-road, Goodyear’s newly designed right-side tyre marks the introduction of its Multi-Zone Tread Technology, combining two different rubber compounds in a single tread to face the conditions of one of NASCAR’s most demanding speedways.
Pirelli’s SC1 Diablo Superbike tyre showed impressive durability at Cadwell Park over the weekend, as Josh Brookes set the fastest race lap of the weekend on the penultimate lap of the second race in a time of 1:27.422 with the track temperature nearing 40 degrees. Meanwhile Alex Lowes took a brace of victories in front of his home crowd to take Brookes’ second place in the Championship behind Shane Byrne.
GT Radial has announced its plan to make its debut at Coach & Bus Live 2013 in support its recently launched all-position urban city-bus tyre, the GAU861. The flagship Giti Tire brand will also display the GAR820 regional all-position tyre and the GT629 regional drive axle model. Tony McHugh, sales and marketing director at Giti Tire UK, said: “The GAU861 was very well received when it was launched at The CV Show in April, and interest and demand since means that the participation of GT Radial at Coach & Bus Live 2013 is a must.” GT Radial will be located at stand M138.
Michelin has launched a new ‘B’ version of its Pilot Road 3 sport touring tyre. Specifically, the tyre is designed for large touring bikes including the BMW K1600GT. Using the same siped tread pattern as the original tyre, the new version also features a redesigned casing to aid stability when these bikes are fully-laden with luggage and a pillion.
US retreading association the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau is partnering with the Retread Manufacturers Association to offer a ‘Retread Workshop Practice’ course in the UK, commencing in September 2013. The correspondence based course includes two ‘mock’ exams to monitor progress during the periods of study, extending from September 2013 to May 2014, and a final exam, which can be taken at a local university or technical college.
