Vipal trains customers in Nova Prata at “UniVipal”

Representatives from five companies attended the training program at Vipal’s head office in Rio Grande do Sul recently. According to the retreading materials supplier the goal was to share the knowledge the firm has acquired over more than 40 years of experience. Vipal, which is the Latin American leader, reports that it developing several such initiatives. These activities, like those fostered by the UniVipal corporate university, are intended to benefit customers around the world. In September, Vipal’s partners from Canada, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia attended a four-day training session at the company’s head office in Nova Prata, Rio Grande do Sul.

Klarius R&D in 24hr race to build Mosler exhaust

In the motorsport industry high speed is the norm, both on and off the track. When a Mosler MT900R race car run by Staffordshire University Race Team suffered damage to the rear chassis and exhaust system, a replacement OEM exhaust could not be supplied in time for the next race. After the initial setback the team approached the Klarius R&D department to see if it could help. They were amazed to discover that Klarius could design, manufacture and test a bespoke system, ready for delivery, in under 24 hours.

IGA to promote motor industry careers in schools

The Independent Garage Association (IGA) will employ a dedicated person to promote a career in the motor industry to school leavers.

The national campaign will see the IGA’s Trade & Local Authority Liaison Officer aiming to change the consumer perception of the garage trade and show pupils the diverse career opportunities the industry offers.

Apprenticeships ‘too important just to be an election promise’

After the Conservative Party joined Labour in pledging increased apprenticeship opportunities, the Institute of the Motor Industry has urged political parties to think carefully about how to improve such positions. Steve Nash, CEO of the IMI which represents the UK retail motor industry, is pleased to hear the latest political party promise about apprenticeships. But he’s concerned that the issue is just becoming one of the items on the list of ‘vote winner’ promises without, necessarily, addressing the challenge of how to attract young people to apprenticeships.

IMI promotes careers in automotive sector

At a time when a million teenagers are digesting their GCSE results and contemplating their futures, The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) has launched a week long social media campaign to steer them towards a career in the automotive sector. The campaign will take place under the banner #MotorCareers on social media sites and has the backing of over 30 companies and organisations. The IMI will also push the campaign out through its 587 centres.

Michelin honing tyre fitter skills with new training academy

Michelin has launched a new training academy that it says promises to transform tyre fitters in the UK and Ireland into the “next generation of expert technicians.” Ten fitters from the Michelin Certified Centre (MCC) network have already been selected to take part in the first Michelin Professionals Academy course, a programme of training that includes a balance of theoretical and practical learning.

Synthos named amongst top Pirelli suppliers for second time

Synthos S.A. has been named as a top Pirelli supplier for the second time in the three years the Italian tyre manufacturer has been running annual supplier awards.
Pirelli reports that it applied numerous objective criteria, including sustainable development, quality, level of service and innovation in order to narrow the field to just nine out of 12,000 suppliers. The winners represent various industries, from natural rubber production to personnel training.

Snap-on opens Hofmann, Sun and John Bean product training school

Snap-on has opened a new training school at its King’s Lynn headquarters for its Snap-on, Hofmann, Sun and John Bean brands. The new facility includes a dedicated classroom and a fully functioning workshop, giving attendees full access and the chance to get ‘hands on’ with the manufacturer’s latest diagnostic technology and garage equipment. Covering around 250 square metres, the workshop features a MOT Automated Test Lane (ATL) bay, high definition 3D wheel alignment, a number of tyre changers and wheel balancers, as well as air conditioning service units, and the full portfolio of Snap-on diagnostic tools.

First flight for Goodyear’s new generation ‘Blimp’

Despite being built by ZLT Zeppelin Luftschifftechnik and having a semi-rigid construction, Goodyear is steadfastly referring to its newest airship a blimp – but whatever you call it, the new craft has taken to the skies. The new ‘blimp’ undertook its maiden flight on 17 March, the US flag proudly flying from the German-registered airship’s tail. Aided by a tail wind, the as-yet unnamed craft exceeded 80 miles per hour.

Out of service and into the record books for Goodyear blimp

With the first of its new Zeppelin airships scheduled to enter service later this year, Goodyear Tire & Rubber has retired its blimp Spirit of Goodyear after 14 years in the air. The company’s longest continuous operated airship had its last day out providing aerial coverage at last weekend’s Daytona 500 race. It was joined by the Spirit of Innovation blimp over the Daytona International Speedway, a rare appearance of two Goodyear airships at the same event. Upon its decommissioning, the Spirit of Goodyear will gain a Guinness World Record for length of continuous operation.

Kumho Tyre gains naming rights for Australian Junior Rally Challenge

Kumho Tyre Australia has become the new naming rights sponsor for the Australian Junior Rally Challenge, further expanding the company’s backing of the ECB Australian Rally Championship. Kumho is already the championship’s official tyre supplier.
