Michelin staff from Stoke-on-Trent have flown to the Republic of Ireland to train the Irish Police Service (An Garda Síochána) – teaching them about tyre safety and technology through a specially-developed course.
The in-depth programme also showed the Garda members how to identify when poor tyre maintenance could have contributed to accidents.
RMI Bodyshops (NAB & VBRA) is urging the government to review its recently released funding levels for the new trailblazer apprenticeships. Jason Moseley, RMI Bodyshops Director commented: “the new funding rates proposed fall concerningly short of those needed to deliver a robust and quality apprenticeship programme. The proposed rates do not cover the funding required for equipment, tools, products and teaching resource to deliver these programmes.
MG Motor UK, has accepted seven new students onto its Automotive Engineering Internship programme for 2016/17. Open to all undergraduates taking relevant degrees within the engineering field, the initiative demonstrates the carmaker’s ongoing commitment to developing young talent.
The Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI) is planning to open two new training academies in the north and south of England to increase the provision of MOT training for garages. The RMI has received increasing demand for training from garages across the UK since opening up the RMI Academy of Automotive Skills in Warwickshire.
The first eight apprentices have completed their training and been gaining experience at Bosch’s Service Training Centre (STC) while working at their local independent Bosch Car Service garage. Over the last three years the scheme has continued to enrol more and more apprentices each year and this September will mark the fourth year it has been operating, with Bosch currently recruiting for its largest intake yet.
Ahead of its September show in Frankfurt, Automechechanika’s organisers are highlighting Automechanika Academy. Messe Frankfurt reports that it has “spared no effort with improvements being made not only to the exhibition concept but also to the accompanying lecture and professional-development programmes”. As a result, trade visitors can look forward to a full line-up of lectures, seminars and practical further-development courses. Indeed, Messe Frankfurt goes as far as saying “the Automechanika Academy programme is now of a size and scope that could easily provide the material for several supplementary professional qualifications”.
Continental has opened its first training centre in the APAC region in Hefei, Anhui province in China. The facility is located in Anhui Province, in the Hefei Hi-tech Industry Development Zone, beside the company’s tyre plant and R&D test centre.
At the end of June, Continental opened a new training centre in Vienna, the company’s fifth in Europe. The centre features a modern workshop and training classroom where garage and fast fit employees will be able to acquire extra skills for working with tyre pressure monitoring systems, electronic systems and brake systems. The facility in Austria will offer its first training programme and September and joins existing centres in France, Germany, Italy and Spain. Upon announcing the new centre’s opening, Continental stated that it will it will further extend its training activities in future.
Andrew Page has introduced a range of annual training and assessment solutions for MOT testers and quality controllers in partnership with IMI.
Through its Auto Education programme, Andrew Page has introduced seven courses to meet new Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) requirements, with courses suitable for existing and new MOT testers. Andrew Page’s offering ranges from online courses, training plans and annual CPD for existing testers; to one, two and three day courses for new MOT testers and MOT managers.
Promising tyre fitters from around the UK and Ireland have assembled in Stoke-on-Trent for the launch of Michelin’s 2016 Tyre Academy course. The 10 fitters, selected from dealerships within the Michelin Certified Centre (MCC) network, were invited to the manufacturer’s UK headquarters for the first Tyre Academy module, which combined classroom and workshop-based education at Michelin’s dedicated training centre.
The new Klarius Emission Control Garage Accreditation scheme is designed to improve garage’s ability to deliver emission control product knowledge and services, while also increasing sales. The mission is to provide a mixture of professional training, signage and promotional tools all designed to increase customer confidence in solving Exhaust, CAT and DPF related issues.
The RMI opened its Academy of Automotive Skills today (Friday 6 May) in Southam, Warwickshire. The brand new, state of the art training facility set up by the Retail Motor Industry Federation (RMI), will act as a an industry resource for MOT tester training, and in time will offer wider automotive technical training.
Courses will include: New MOT Tester Training; New Motorcycle Tester Training; MOT Manager Training; ATA L3 Light Vehicle Inspection; CPD/Annual Assessment; and F-GAS.
RMI Bodyshops (NAB/VBRA) has teamed up with Hella Gutmann Solutions and several of their training provider members to help spread the word on complex systems such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) through a series of national evening events.
Following the demise of the DVSA NTTA, technicians looking to become MOT testers have found it more difficult to achieve the qualifications they need to follow the right path. That’s why Bosch is offering training for Automotive Technician Accreditation (ATA) level 3 qualifications.
BMW and Jaguar Land Rover have launched a new programmed which aims to drive up managerial skills in the UK’s automotive industry. The ProLead training programme combines existing qualifications and tailors them to provide automotive leaders with in depth management and technical knowledge. It has been developed using best practice from the worldwide operations of UK based car manufacturers.
