New Yokohama dumper radial launched

Yokohama Rubber has introduced a new tyre size for rigid dump trucks used in construction and mining applications. The size 27.00R49 fitment has been added to the RB42 range; the new tyre is TRA coded as ‘E-4’ by the U.S. Tire and Rim Association. Yokohama says the RB42 range now covers ‘regular’ specifications for ordinary off-the-road surfaces and ‘cut protected’ versions with increased resistance to cutting – making the line-up suitable for a wide range of surfaces, from soft or loose surfaces such as mud or sand through to rough surfaces such as gravel and rocks.

PAS 107 quality products from the tyre recovery association

Tyre Recovery Association members will be the first in Britain to offer Quality Protocol (QP) audits for tyre derived rubber materials to all its members. Based on the BSI Publicly Available Standards (PAS 107) for these materials, qualifying TRA member companies will, from this autumn, be able to acquire new product status for a range of size reduced materials derived from old tyres. Until now all such materials, however valuable, have been deemed waste and therefore subjected to permit and transportation constraints.

TRA: 2010 Forum Day Bigger and Better

The Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) has announced that its 2010 Forum Day will take place on Friday 9 July at the St John’s Hotel, Solihull. According to the association, this year’s event adds a morning workshop dedicated to introducing tyre retailers to the opportunities offered by the industry’s Responsible Recycler Scheme. The workshop precedes the established programme which will follow in the afternoon and the TRA will this year organise its own Tyre Industry Dinner and cabaret for the evening.

Peter Taylor Picks Up OBE

Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) secretary general and Imported Tyre Manufacturer’s Association (ITMA) director Peter Taylor received his OBE during a ceremony at Buckingham Palace on Thursday, 15 October. The award was presented by Her Majesty The Queen. Taylor received the award for services to the tyre industry and for his contribution to the businesses ground breaking tyre recovery and recycling programme.

Barry Stocker New TRA President

TRA has elected Barry Stocker as its new president, at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on 20 May. During the AGM, the association also elected a new vice president/treasurer to succeed the existing appointees whose terms of office fall vacant under the association’s rules. Keith Rodgers, managing director of Saltire Recovery Limited was elected to this position. Both the president and vice president/treasurer are set to serve two-year terms of office.

National Is TRA Retailer of the Year

National Tyres and Autocare has received the ‘Retailer of the Year’ award by the Tyre Recovery Association (TRA) for “demonstrating consistent concern for the responsible recycling of end of life tyres.” Gary Pugh, group audit director for the Axle Group, which includes National Tyres and Autocare, National Fleet and Viking International, accepted the award from John Campbell, director, Vellco Limited, National’s waste management partner.

“National, working together with Vellco Limited, will achieve a zero carbon footprint during 2009, which supports our overall goal of minimising environmental impact in all the varying processes in which the company is involved,” Pugh commented.

Kingpin and Fraser Evans Lose Responsible Recycler Status

Kingpin Tyres Limited has lost its accreditation under the Tyre Industry Federation’s Responsible Recycler Scheme. A statement issued by the Tyre Recovery Association explained that the accreditation has been rescinded effective 31 July 2008.

Centurion to Expand into Industrial, Ag Markets

US based Centurion Wheels operates a state of the art facility in China, employing personal with decades of industry experience. Catering for the commercial vehicle market, the wheels produced by Centurion are TRA and SAE compliant, and the company is US DOT approved. The company reports that the design and materials used give its wheels a higher than industry standard fatigue tolerance.

Products manufactured by Centurion Wheels include both tubeless and tube tyre disc wheels for all positions, and in August the company plans to introduce its new industrial and agricultural wheel ranges.

TRA Forum Day Proving Popular

The Tyre Recovery Association annual Forum Day on 23 January at the Marriott Renaissance Solihull is already heavily subscribed, according to the association. As a result, the organisers have announced that pre-registration is essential for those planning to come. There is no charge for the day’s event which also includes a light lunch. Bandvulc Joins the TRA

Bandvulc Tyres based in Ivybridge, South Devon has joined the TRA membership and committed to active participation in the Tyre Industry Federation’s Responsible Recycler Scheme. Commenting, TRA Secretary General, Peter Taylor said members “would look to Bandvulc to bring their considerable expertise and insight into a very important area of tyre recovery”.

TRA Launches Annual Award to Honour Commitment to Recycling

A new award, to be known as the ‘TRA Responsible Retailer of the Year’, is to be presented for the very first time at the Tyre Recovery Association’s 2007 Rubber Industry Dinner on 5th October. The award will honour tyre retailers who have demonstrated consistent concern for the responsible recycling of end of life tyres.

Nominations for the award will be forwarded by TRA members to a selection panel set up by the Association. The final selection criteria will include matters such as overall appearance of the premises, availability of new tyres and retreads (RMA Green Dealer Programme) as well as a clear commitment to regulatory compliance.

Commenting on this new TRA initiative, TRA Secretary Peter Taylor said it was now clearly necessary to ‘raise the game’ on the responsible collection and handling of used tyres and to do so by publicly congratulating those tyre retailers who subscribed to tyre recycling best practice in its broadest sense.

The rapidly growing body whose members operate the Responsible Recycler Scheme is unique in a number of ways (not least its voluntary character). TRA is reportedly the largest national tyre recovery programme in Europe. During this year’s show the association will be offering tyre dealers, garage owners and anyone handling old tyres a five-point ‘Health Check’ to help them understand their legal obligations.

TRA Commended at Annual EAST Awards Ceremony

The Tyre Recovery Association was the winner of a Commendation Award that this year’s EAST Awards ceremony held at London’s Royal Horseguards Hotel on 7 April. The TRA award was for Environmental & Sustainable Management and acknowledged the steady progress made by the Association in developing its Responsible Recycler Scheme for end of life tyres.
