Tyre Bay Direct has teamed up with Think Smart to offer new tyre equipment leasing concept. Rent Smart has been available through Curry’s and Dixons for many years but Tyre Bay Direct are reportedly the first people to bring it into the Garage Equipment market.
The 27th Reifen show in Essen was the best yet with 19,000 trade visitors in attendance, according to show organisers Messe Essen. While the company announced that it had the largest number of exhibitors in the event’s history and the strongest international participation before the show, increased footfall was confirmed at the end of the event. Talk of tyre labelling and the new products linked to this legislation dominated the trade fair.
The makers of a patented exhaust system that aims to ‘revolutionise’ aftermarket sales is among the latest exhibitors to sign-up for October’s Brityrex International show in Manchester.
At the festive opening ceremony of Reifen 2012 in the evening before the fair on 4 June, Peer Steinbrück, former Federal minister of Finance, addressed invited guests. When the fair opened, ex-Formula One driver Christian Danner demonstrated show fitting operations. Reifen and its sponsor, Bundesverband Reifenhandel und Vulkaniseur-Handwerk e.V. (BRV – "Federal Association of the Tyre Trade and the Vulcanisers' Skilled Trade"), said the special events would help to stress the significance of the tyre trade fair.

Transense Technologies plc reports that its Translogik division’s iTrack tyre temperature TPMS for OTR vehicles has successfully completed field trials and is now an approved product for deployment in the southern African region. According to the company, the Customer is initially focussing on fitting the iTrack system to its haul trucks while also considering fitment to its ancillary mine vehicles, more than doubling the potential number of vehicles requiring the system.
Road safety organisation TyreSafe has re-elected Stuart Jackson for the second time as its chairman for a further two years. Membership at the organisation has enjoyed continued growth during Jackson’s tenure, started in 2009, extending to car manufacturers, insurers, equipment suppliers and other relevant road safety bodies such as police forces, the Highways agency and the Association of Chief Fire Officers. TyreSafe was also awarded the Prince Michael International Safety Award, which recognises achievement and innovations which will improve road safety, in 2009

Over 70 Point S UK members, staff and suppliers gathered in Solihull yesterday to reflect on the independent retail network’s development in 2011 and plans for 2012. At the end of 2011 Point S UK had 45 members and 125 points of sale. And although the group opted to slow down additions to its membership in order to ensure high standards, this is still ahead of initial goals of 100 plus points of sale within two years of the network’s inception. That said the group is now revving up its membership once again, with ambitious targets and plans for national coverage. Looking around the mini-exhibition hall next door to the conference presentations you can see that that Point S UK is still growing and gaining influence in the market.
Tyre pressure monitoring system technology provider Advantage PressurePro and Alliance Wireless Technologies, manufacturer of mobile rear vision camera systems and wireless communications products, have announced a new partnership agreement. The companies, who have worked together since 2009 as integration partners on Advance Wireless’ Vivid units, have formed a new relationship to bring PressurePro’s stand alone TPMS units to the waste and commercial markets.
Tyre repair material and wheel service solution producer Tech Europe is a long-term supporter of the Reifen exhibition, and returns to Essen this year to exhibit the latest products and services in its Tech and Truflex/Pang ranges. Expanded to 112 pages, the catalogue features brands, such as Comma, Wynn’s, Kent Car Care, Sealey and Ring Automotive. Bridgestone’s new Contact Area Information Sensing technology (CAIS) has won an industry award for the second time in as many months. Spain’s leading economic and financial magazine, Actualidad Económica has selected Bridgestone’s CAIS safety technology as one of the “100 Best Ideas of the Year” in the automotive category.
Transense Technologies plc has confirmed that its sales division Translogik Limited has received a further order from Bridgestone Brazil for its next-generation iProbe commercial tyre inspection tool. The iProbe provides a robust, reliable and user-friendly wireless solution for cost effective monitoring of tyre pressure and tread depth, combined with integrated RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) and TPMS (Tyre Pressure Monitoring System) sensor reading capabilities. This order is twice the size originally scheduled for second quarter delivery to Bridgestone. The announcement follows a 6 February 2012 statement explaining the news.
With TPMS becoming mandatory on new car models this year, Rema Tip Top Automotive believes understanding tyre pressure technology is critical to tyre businesses.
Referring to it as, “one of the most topical and important issues in the automotive industry at this time”, company representatives pointed out the environmental and safety benefits of effective tyre maintenance through TPMS. Optimised fuel consumption and reduced tyre wear, the company suggests, can be seen as great financial incentives for any customer wishing to adopt such a system, but crucially – the say – the road safety benefits for the customer and other road users must be treated with equal regard.
