Since 2014, new cars in the EU need to be equipped with Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems (TPMS). There are two types of systems, hardware based direct TPMS (dTPMS) and software based iTPMS (something that was previously commonly known as in-direct TPMS). The purpose of the study was to investigate whether both types of TPMS serve their purpose, lead to properly inflated tyres, hence reducing CO2-emission and increasing traffic safety.
Following the success of the firm’s recently launched IMI-accredited training course, Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) specialists, Tyresure Ltd have announced the release of two additional courses for the new year. Focused on more specific areas of working with TPMS in everyday business, the new courses cover best practices for dealing with TPMS sensors in a tyre bay, and guidance on how to effectively sell TPMS to customers.
Trelleborg has shared plans to show a number of technological innovations aimed at helping farmers to produce more, with less at LAMMA 2018.
On 12 November Michelin announced it had bought PTG and Téléflow – both industry leaders in tyre pressure control systems which allow users to monitor and adapt tyre pressures according to the terrain and conditions of use. These acquisitions signal Michelin’s intention to become the global leader for Central Tyre Inflation Systems (CTIS) in the agricultural market. No pricetags associated with the purchases have yet been revealed, but Europe is known to be the centre of the segment, which is valued at around US$1.7 billion in 2017.
Automatic tyre inflation systems is set to become a multi-billion dollar global industry during the course of the next decade. According to a report produced by Future Market Insights, the market is anticipated to reach revenue of over US$1.500 billion in 2017 and grow at a steady compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.6 per cent during the 10 year period between 2017 and 2027. The forecast predicts the market to reach a revenue of over $2.7 billion by the end of the forecast period in 2027.
With the weather getting colder, some motorists are now changing over to Winter tyres, meaning a considerable amount of TPMS sensor valves will require servicing. This creates the opportunity to bring in more business for garages and servicing centres – and as more and more new cars on the road are fitted with TPMS, this number is increasing every year.
TyreSafe is reminding drivers not to rely solely on tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) to ensure their tyre safety. While this valued technology has been proven to improve road safety by advising of a change in tyre pressure, drivers need to check their TPMS is working and be aware that it does not warn drivers of the condition of their tyres nor the amount of tread depth.
Goodyear has agreed to acquire Ventech Systems GmbH, a leader in automated tyre inspection technology, from Grenzebach Maschinenbau GmbH. The company was founded in 2006 and offers a fully-automated tyre inspection system that checks tyre pressure, tread depth and vehicle weight for buses, trucks, cars and other vehicles. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter. The business and technology will be integrated into the company’s Goodyear Proactive Solutions business.
Tyresure Ltd has released the VT56 SE – a new ‘lite’ version of the original VT56 tool, which has been streamlined to offer all the essential functions required, for a lower cost.
Configuring all popular universal TPMS sensors, including all of Tyresure’s T-Pro sensors, the new tool is designed to integrate and store all sensor data, and allows this data to be transferred to the vehicle via the OBDII socket. Frequent online updates ensure that new vehicles are introduced quickly, providing up-to-date coverage at all times.
