(Akron/Tire Review) Toyo Tire North America Inc. (TNA) officially opened its first North American tyre production facility this morning in White, Georgia. The opening ceremonies were attended by Georgia state and regional officials, Toyo and Nitto tyre dealers, and Bartow County, Georgia., business and community leaders.
(Akron/Tire Review) Toyo Tire USA Corp has added 13 sizes to its Toyo Proxes 4 ultra-high performance tyre line, including two 24-inch sizes. The new sizes include 275/35R18, 295/30R19, 245/45R20, 255/30R20, 295/30R20, 295/25R20, 255/35R22, 235/30R22, 265/30R22, 285/30R22, 305/25R22, 255/30R24 and 275/30R24.
(Akron/Tire Review) Toyo Tire (USA) Corp. said it would increase prices on all of its passenger and light truck/SUV tyres by up to 8 per cent, effective Jan. 1, 2006. No pricing announcement was made regarding Toyo’s commercial tyres.
(Akron/Tire Review) Toyo Tire (USA) Corp. is introducing two 24-inch sizes of its Proxes 4 ultra-high performance tyre. The new sizes – 255/30R24 and 275/30R24 – are made with Toyo’s “Generation S” silica-reinforced tread compound and the tyremaker’s T-Mode design technology and are “ideal for even or stagger fitments,” Toyo said.
The Proxes 4 tyre features a unidirectional “w-shaped” tread design, curved centre rib for water evacuation and a five-variable pitch tread design for reduced noise, said Toyo.
Toyo Tyre & Rubber Australia Limited (TAL) a subsidiary of Toyo Tire & Rubber Co, Ltd, opened its new rubber mixing plant in Australia on the 20 October. Located in Minto, New South Wales, TAL’s new rubber mixing plant employs 61 people and is situated on a 76,900 m2 site.
(Akron/Tire Review) Toyo Tires International has begun “prototype tyre production” at its Toyo Tire North America (TTNA) plant in White, Georgia. The first test tyres rolled off the line on 10 October, just a year after ground was broken for the highly automated plant. Toyo officials said that upon completion of product quality checks and performance tests, TTNA will launch commercial production in early 2006. The plant will have an initial capacity of 2 million passenger and light truck/SUV tyres per year.

(Akron/Tire Review) Toyo Tire & Rubber Co has reorganised its entire North American operations under a new umbrella company – Toyo Tires International – that will oversee all of its manufacturing, distribution and sales and marketing efforts in the US, Canada and Mexico.
Forbes.com has reported that Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd, Yokohama Rubber Co. and Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. plan to increase prices on their “synthetic-rubber tyres” by four per cent to seven per cent sometime this fall. While none of the companies has made a formal increase announcement, Forbes.com said Japan’s major chemical companies and companies that buy petroleum-based raw material are “scrambling to raise prices of their products” because of fast-rising crude oil prices.
Toyo representative Junko Koide confirmed that the company would increase its prices from the 1 October. The price increases were said to affect passenger car, light truck, and studless truck tyres.
Toyo claims to have turned conventional racing wisdom on its head, following tyre partner Nick Williamson’s recent driving performance. Williamson leads his class and is currently second overall in the Track and Race Saloon Car Championship Class B and has won five out of the six last meetings, running on Proxes R888 tyres.
Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd. announces its consolidated business results for the first quarter of FY2005 (from April 1 through June 30, 2005). Net sales were 523.9 million euros (an increase of 13.9% from the same period of the previous year); operating income was 23.3 million euros; ordinary income was 26.1 million euros; and net profit totaled 5.3 million euros.
Toyo Tire & Rubber Co. Ltd is to “spin off” the Nitto brand division of Toyo Tire (USA) Corp, incorporating it as a separate company. The new business will be called Nitto Tire North America Incorporated, from 1 July 2005.
Toyo Tire & Rubber Co Ltd is to reorganise its European sales structure by establishing two companies – Toyo Tyre (UK) Ltd in the UK and Toyo Tire Benelux BV in the Netherlands. The new companies will be subsidiaries of Toyo Tire Europe GmbH (TTE) which itself has only been in operation since January 2005.
