Towards the end of this month, Toyo Tire & Rubber will move into a new headquarters building. The Japanese manufacturer will relocate some ten miles, from Nishi-ku, Osaka to Itami, Hyogo. The move will take place on Sunday 28 May and see Toyo housed in a new six-storey building next to the company’s Tire Technical Center. Operations at the new headquarters will begin the next day.

Toyo Tires has been announced as the tyre supply partner to the new Z Cars Racing Series in 2017. The manufacturer will supply the Proxes R888R tyre, already present in a variety of British club motorsport series, to the busy grid of BMW Z3 and Z4 cars. Gary Feakins Racing (GFR) has partnered with MotorSport Vision Racing (MSVR) to create what they hope will be an accessible, yet aspirational series. They hope it will provide a quality, yet affordable, grid and a stepping stone to higher formulae, such as GT racing.
The list of tyre makers intending to implement price increases in the coming time continues to grow. Two further manufacturers have announced price rises in the North American market: On 1 April, Kumho Tire USA will raise the prices for its car, light commercial and truck tyres by up to eight per cent. Toyo Tires USA is looking to lift prices for its car, light commercial and truck tyres by seven per cent.

Throughout the course of this year, Toyo Tire & Rubber’s manufacturing operation in North America will expand its research and development capabilities in order to expedite the development of both original equipment and replacement market tyres. The company has not disclosed the level of investment being made in the Toyo Tire North America Manufacturing facility, however it will result in a 50 per cent increase in the size of the research and development team.
The third AC Milan video from Toyo Tire & Rubber is now online. Titled ‘AC Milan vs. Drift Cars’, the video was released globally today and features players from the Italian Serie A club, including Keisuke Honda, Alessio Romagnoli, Ignazio Abate and Gabriel Ferreira, perform in a coliseum alongside Toyo Proxes-shod Nissan GT-R and Toyota GT86 sports cars. Toyo Tire & Rubber has announced that approval was given at its Board of Directors meeting today for the appointment of Michio Yoneda as special advisor to the company. Yoneda, who was formerly president and chief executive officer of Osaka Securities Exchange Co., Ltd., will join Toyo Tire & Rubber on 1 December.
Toyo Tires has lent its support and tyres to the Mission Motorsport team competing in the Race of Remembrance event at Anglesey circuit. As the name implies, Race of Remembrance sees ex-service personnel and veterans competing a 1,000km endurance event at the notoriously demanding North Wales track. Toyo supplied the Milltek Sport/Mission Motorsport/KPM Racing MkVII Golf R, which was piloted by British Olympian Sir Chris Hoy; British Paralympian Jon-Allen Butterworth; GT racer, Tom Onslow-Cole; Paul White; and Jade Edwards.
Toyo’s new full slick competition tyre, the Proxes RS1, was launched in the UK in time for the 2015 season. Its two 15” sizes (195/570R15 and 205/580R15) were joined by the larger 235/620R17, and now Toyo has added two 18” fitments to the range, 245/640R18 and 285/680R18. Toyo states that the tyre is its model for a large and growing market for specialist slick tyres, primarily amongst those that regularly attend track days or participate in club-level motorsport.
The Proxes R888R road and track tyre, which was launched in the UK at the start of last year, is now available on the other side of The Pond. Toyo Tire U.S.A. has released the Proxes R888R as an evolution of its Proxes R888 and states the tyre will deliver “even faster lap times and better dry handling.” With a tread wear rating of 100 AA A, the Proxes R888R is available in the US in a full range of sizes to fit 13- up to 20-inch diameter wheels, with additional sizes to be released through summer 2017.
Toyo Tires has become a premium partner to Fortuna Düsseldorf after entering into a two-year agreement with the German second division (2. Bundesliga) football club. This deal was announced the day the Bundesliga announced its schedule for the 2016/17 season and only a short time after Toyo Tire & Rubber shared news of its new two-year sponsorship of Japanese club Gamba Osaka.

Six months after Katsumi Komaguchi became chairman and representative director of Toyo Tire & Rubber in December 2015, the Japanese tyre manufacturer has announced his resignation of both roles. In an extremely short and perfunctory statement, Toyo wrote that his resignation is effective immediately (from 27 May 2016) and is described as a “personal matter”.
