Autodiagnos Limited, manufacturers of one of the leading automotive diagnostic tools has announced a major re-organisation programme designed, which the company says is designed to enhance customer focus and synergy in domestic and global markets. Dave Rushton, a Chartered Engineer, has been appointed director and general manager of the company. Rushton brings over 15 years experience in the Automotive Diagnostics business, previously working with other leading diagnostics companies and recently as Operations Director at Autodiagnos.
Mark Wright has joined the company to head up UK Sales and Marketing. Wright has 10 years of experience in sales and distribution of automotive tools and equipment and will focus on the development and support of customers in the home markets.
Seasonal demands for replacement car batteries show no signs of diminishing, says battery expert Varta. In fact, despite new automotive technology and sophisticated control systems, the number of breakdowns caused by electronic malfunction has increased by 20 per cent over the past two decades. An evaluation of 1.9 million breakdowns handled by the German ADAC motoring organization in 2004 revealed that electronic-derived breakdowns account for 36 per cent of all call-outs.

(Akron/Tire Review) Matthias Schönberg, managing director of Continental Tire of Mexico, has been named CEO of Continental Tire North America, effective Oct. 1. Alan Hippe, who had been president and CEO, will remain as president of CTNA. In addition, Andreas Gerstenberger, current vice president of sales and marketing, was promoted to executive vice president of sales and marketing at CTNA. As CEO, Schönberg, who has extensive international experience, will head CTNA’s supply chain, sales and marketing and production. He will report to Hippe, who as CFO and executive board member of parent Continental AG will continue to provide strategic direction to CTNA.
Michelin has launched a range of power converters that change 12volt DC battery current into 240volt AC mains power for laptop computers, mobile phone chargers, power tools and televisions.
With more and more mobile staff spending time on the road and making even less frequent visits to the office, Michelin has determined that greater power capacity is required for portable machines. Whilst a laptop has its own battery power, this capacity is limited and only an AC power source will operate the computer in the car and recharge the battery.
Alignment system manufacturer, John Bean has announced its sponsorship of the Jonny Milner Rally Team. Jonny is twice winner of the British Rally Championship winning the event in 2002 and 2003. ESCO, the Brooksville, Florida-based manufacturer of tyre changing tools and equipment, recently promoted Luis Goyeneche to international sales manager. Mr Goyeneche had previously worked for the company in a sales position covering the western United States. After taking on the position, Goyeneche will work with current ESCO distributors abroad, while establishing new accounts in targeted areas.

(Akron/Tire Review) The independent automotive aftermarket scored a major victory May 25 in its battle for passage of the Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act (H.R. 2048) when the House Commerce, Trade and Consumer Protection Subcommittee voted in favor of the legislation in an open mark-up session.
Although the bill was amended during the committee meeting, AAIA said the primary goal of the legislation remained intact. Right to Repair legislation would require the Federal Trade Commission to enforce requirements that independent repair shops have access to the same information and tools that are available to new car dealers.
