Giti Tire has expanded its GT Radial GSR225 Combi Road multi-use steer axle range with three new 19.5” sizes. In another development for the versatile range, Giti has also upgraded the load index for its next generation 22.5” tyres to meet Euro 6 requirements.
Following its week at the Birmingham NEC for this year’s Commercial Vehicle Show, Giti Tire said that it “registered record visitor numbers” to its new look stand. The manufacturer was displaying its new GT Radial GDR638 drive axle tyre, among others, from a large stand incorporating its corporate colours alongside its flagship GT Radial branding for the first time. The manufacturer said the use of its Giti branding was part of a plan to raise its profile worldwide in support of global infrastructure projects, such as the new $560m manufacturing and distribution plant in Chester County, South Carolina.
Giti Tire will launch its latest GT Radial next generation drive axle tyre at CV Show 2015. Making its debut at stand 4G40, the GDR638 is a high-performance drive axle tyre designed specifically for medium-sized trucks and buses. The tyre will be available in April in sizes 245/70R17.5 and 235/75R17.5, with seven further 17.5” and 19.5” sizes due before the end of the year.
Having made its debut at Coach & Bus Live 2013 in support of its all-position urban city-bus tyre, the GAU861, and with recent success in the closely linked truck market, GT Radial has ambitions to increase its share in the passenger transportation side of the commercial vehicle tyre segment. Tony McHugh, sales and marketing director at Giti Tire UK, and marketing director – Europe, Peter Foulkes told Tyrepress that the company’s “broad coach and bus portfolio”, including 22.5” and 17.5” fitments, is now well placed to pursue increasing numbers of potential fleet customers, while the brand has existing deals within the sector in Germany.
Giti Tire’s expansion to its GT Radial commercial vehicle hot cure bead-to-bead retread tyre range will be announced officially at The Commercial Vehicle Show 2014. GT Radial will display the GDR690 GT REE Tread drive position regional tyre available in 295/80 and 315/80 sizes from its stand in Hall five (C60). Like the existing GTR990 385/65R22.5 super single, it will be solely manufactured using only GT Radial casings.
Two years after bringing its first hot cure retread tyre to the UK market with the GTR990 regional trailer pattern in size 385/65R22.5, GT Radial will launch a further two products as part of its REE Tread programme. The GDR690 regional commercial vehicle drive pattern will be available in 295/80 and 315/80 sizes, and will be produced, like the super single product, by a major retread producer in the south east of England. As with the previous tyre, it will be manufactured using only GT Radial casings. Giti Tire (UK) has appointed Craig Tominey as Area Sales Manager (ASM) Scotland as the company continues to add staff to its commercial tyre sales team. Tominey joins from BSUK Limited where he held the position of ASM from 2006, before which he spent five years selling commercial vehicles for Arnold Clark.
A truck driver from well-known UK haulier Stan Robinson Ltd has been named Britain’s top driver by Goodyear after managing to achieve a remarkable 425,000 kilometres (266,000 miles) on the same set of Goodyear steer tyres.
Nigel Brown took delivery of his new Scania in April 2003, fitted with Goodyear Marathon LHS 385/65R22.5 steer tyres. Three years later, he had clocked up a mileage equivalent to driving ten times around the Equator and the set of Goodyear steer tyres had yet to be changed.
Goodyear Dunlop have appointed Tony McHugh as national key account manager, in a move designed to strengthen the company’s fleet operations.
