Pro-Align Explains Hunter SmartWeight Award-Winning Benefits

Having been voted the winner of this year’s TAFF Innovation Award by the National Tyre Distributors Association judging panel despite tough competition from many other innovative products, the team behind the Hunter SmartWeight Balancing system was keen to reveal the benefits of using the product. Hunter says that it took “a completely fresh look at balancing methodology and came up with an entirely new system that works with greater efficiency and split tolerances, the features that helped it to the innovation award and which it says benefit operators over comparative products. Pro-Align Offers Specialist Alignment Lift

The emergence this year of the FS40LT four post alignment lift, distributed exclusively by Pro-Align, has reportedly created “a wave of interest in the UK market.” Fresh from winning the NTDA innovation prize for its Hunter SmartWeight system at this year’s TAFF awards, Pro-Align are now offering what the company calls specialist alignment lifts.

“The FS40LT has been developed by Provac, Hunter’s distributor in France,” Pro-Align’s Paul Beaurain explains: “Utilising years of alignment experience, they have brought together the best features to make an extremely high specification ramp, providing…the ultimate alignment service, at a price that’s no more expensive than a standard four post alignment lift.”

Continental Wins 2 TAFF Awards at 80th NTDA Dinner

Continental Tyre Group won Tyre Manufacturer of the Year and the Industry Advertiser’s award at 2009 Tyre And Fast Fit (TAFF) Awards last night. The TAFF Awards ceremony, which formed part of the NTDA’s 80th annual dinner at the Manchester Deansgate Hilton also saw leading UK wholesaler BITS extend its tally to nine Wholesaler of the Year Awards.

Accepting the company’s Manufacturer of the Year award, Continental Tyre Group managing director, David Smith told Tyres & Accessories: “We are delighted that our work and efforts have been recognised by the industry. I am particularly proud of my team who work hard to push standards forward and make us the leading brand in the industry.”

Safeguard Yourself From the Chill

We don’t want to ruin your summer, but we have it on good authority that these balmy months aren’t going to last. Despite a proposed Met Office climatic rescue package, analysts forecast that thermometers will soon begin dipping, and this climatic downturn will most likely show no sign of abating until early next year. But while there seems no way of halting or reversing this slide into single and minus figures, British motorists are again being offered the opportunity to protect themselves from the worst climatic recession experienced since late 2008. Brityrex has been postponed until 2010 but our industry’s annual award ceremony is still going ahead as planned – as National Tyre Distributors Association director Richard Edy comments, “the dinner and awards evening are a major industry attraction in their own right and will continue to work well for our members.” Arrangements for the 2009 TAFF Awards are in hand and nominations for the September 23 event have been finalised. In August we will review the contenders for TAFF honours in readiness for the annual ceremony. Don’t miss next month’s coverage.

Smart Weigh to Go

Pro-Align has seen an increase in the sales of its Hunter Tyre Changer and Balancer combinations over the course of 2008. The company believes that these increases can be attributed to the systems’ new SmartWeight software, which represents the implementation of a different balancing methodology, illustrated by a video on the product’s website (www.smartweight.com). Added to that is the reputation that Hunter is continuing to build in the UK for well-built, reliable equipment, features that Pro-Align are happy to point towards. The Towcester-based supplier was recently nominated for the 2008 Aftermarket Supplier of the Year at the TAFF awards; this sort of recognition is helping the company to develop business and interest in the new machine.

Brityrex 2009 Appoints Steering Committee

Peter Gaster, group managing director of KRT and current chair of the NTDA, has agreed to lead a new steering committee, which was formed by the NTDA to support the organisers of Brityrex in the run-up to Brityrex 2009. Alan Baldwin, David White, Ashley Croft and Darren Duguid are just a few of the other well known industry names that have committed their time to the project (full list below). “We are delighted to attract such a wide range of talent from our sector and I look forward to working with the group to further develop this vital show for the UK tyre industry,” Peter Gaster commented. The first meeting of the steering group will take place in London on Thursday 6 December.

NTDA to Sponsor Brityrex 2009

The NTDA has signed a sponsorship agreement with Brityrex 2009 organisers ECI International for the next exhibition, scheduled to be held at Manchester’s G-Mex centre between September 22 and 24. As part of the agreement, the association’s annual dinner and TAFF Awards presentation will be held alongside the show, as was done successfully this year. The dinner and awards ceremony will take place on September 23.

“We feel the exhibition is vitally important to our members, and the industry as a whole, and we are delighted to be providing our active support to the event,” commented the NTDA’s national chair Peter Gaster. “The 2006 exhibition was a great success for my company, KRT. We have already booked our space for 2009 and I look forward to providing my backing in the run-up to 2009.”

New Date for Brityrex as Show Returns in 2009

Positive feedback from May’s Brityrex International exhibition at Manchester’s G-MEX Centre has been followed by confirmation that the UK’s only dedicated tyre show will return to the same venue in 2009. Although Manchester will again act as host city, the show has been rescheduled to a new slot in September, to avoid a crowded exhibition programme that includes two other major aftermarket trade shows in April and May.

“We’re delighted with the overall feedback we’ve received from exhibitors and visitors and believe that we can continue to develop the show further in two years time. Part of that development includes moving to a new slot in September, which we believe will benefit exhibitors and visitors by avoiding clashes with other exhibitions,” said Paul Farrant, managing director of show organiser ECI International.

Paul continued: “The new venue worked well, exhibitors made real efforts to present themselves very professionally and we were pleased that visitor numbers increased compared to the last exhibition in Harrogate, two years ago.”

Incumbent NTDA Chairman to Outline Future Plans

Peter Gaster, managing director of King’s Road Tyres Group, and new NTDA chairman-elect, has told Tyres & Accessories that he will give details of his plans for the role during his speech at the NTDA Tyre and Fast Fit Awards (TAFF) tonight. Explaining that the speech will be short and to the point, Gaster.

NTDA TAFF Award Winners

At the NTDA 2006 TAFF Awards Dinner at the Hilton Hotel, NEC Birmingham earlier this week, the coveted TAFF trophies were presented by Mark Lovett of Renault UK Vans, the Awards sponsors. Announcing the winners, Martin Rowlands, Immediate Past Chairman of the NTDA, said that this year the Awards had attracted phenomenal support, with over 5000 votes being cast.

NTDA Tyre Push

Members of the NTDA’s Northern Ireland region are planning a charity “Tyre Push” to raise money for a Children’s Hospice and to increase awareness of the industry’s 3mm campaign.

The push will commence at Northwest Tyres in Londonderry on the 12th September and will conclude on the 12th November, taking in as many member depots as possible.

NTDA Announce TAFF Speaker

Gyles Brandreth, a former member of John Major’s government is to be the guest speaker at the NTDA’s 2006 Annual Dinner and TAFF Awards.

The event will be once again held alongside the Commercial Vehicle Show in Birmingham at the Birmingham Metropole Hotel on 26th April 2006.

Gyles is perhaps better-known for his appearances on Channel 4’s Countdown, TV-AM and for his writing.

Chairman John Tarbox said: “We are delighted to have secured the services of such an accomplished after dinner speaker who, I am sure. Will make a major contribution to what promises to be the main tyre industry event in 2006.”

Renault To Sponsor New Tyre Industry Awards

The NTDA has announced that Renault Vans will be supporting its Tyre and Fast Fit (TAFF) awards in 2005. The TAFF awards are due to be launched at the NTDA’s Annual Dinner in April. The awards will feature Tyre Manufacturer, National and Regional Wholesaler, Tyre and Aftermarket Equipment Supplier, Product Innovation and a special award for Industry Advertising Campaigns.
