Pirelli’s Ice Zero studded tyre has been awarded top honours in a dedicated test hosted by one of Sweden’s leading car magazines. The tyre beat eight key rivals from the best-known tyre manufacturers in the industry during a rigorous test that tested every aspect of snow and ice performance. Traction, braking, grip and handling in a variety of snow and ice conditions were assessed during the test, carried out by Swedish car magazine Teknikens Varld.
Swedish software house Compilator announced that it has agreed to acquire English tyre software specialist Team Systems Ltd on 15 September. As a result of the acquisition Compilator gains about 500 new customers as well as six new employees.
Volvo Trucks vehicle “The Iron Knight” has broken two world speed records for trucks on Goodyear tyres. The company’s rubber helped the 4.5 tonne, 2,400 horsepower truck achieve an average speed of 169.09 km/h (105 mph) in a time of 21.29 seconds, over 1,000 meters from a standing start. The Iron Knight also beat the record for the 500 metre distance, at 131.29 km/h (81.6 mph) in 13.71 seconds from a standing start. During the record runs The Iron Knight reached a top speed of 276 km/h (171.5 mph).

In Nokian Tyres’ opinion, advertising within the tyre industry is often boring, and they may have a point. So the company decided to do something about this by arranging and filming a surprise for customers at one of its Vianor retail centres in Gothenburg, Sweden. Unsuspecting motorists arriving for tyre changes were treated to a ‘personal gig’ from Swedish heavy metal band Hammerfall, and the YouTube video of the event has been viewed almost 700,000 times within three days.
Marangoni Retreading Systems Deutschland GmbH has named Gummiservice Produksjon A/S from Rade, Norway as the latest member of the Marangoni Ringtread network.
According to the company, retreads 40,000 tyres a year and is therefore a significant player in the Norwegian and Swedish markets.
Sweden’s Trelleborg AB states that its net sales increased two per cent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2014 to SEK 5,725 million (£490.5 million) despite a one per cent decline in organics sales. Operating profit, excluding the company’s items affecting comparability, rose by 11 per cent to SEK 802 million (£68.7 million), equivalent to an operating margin of 14.0 per cent and the group’s highest ever for a single quarter. Earnings per share rose 38 percent to SEK 1.95 (£0.17) while operating cash flow amounted to SEK 539 million (£46.2 million).
Hexpol has agreed to acquire well known US rubber compounding firm Kardoes Rubber Co. from company founder Frank Kardoes and his family for US$31.8 million. According to Hexpol, the acquisition price will be paid on a cash and debt free basis and is funded by a combination of cash and existing bank facilities. The acquisition price will be paid upon completion of the acquisition which is estimated to take place at the end of July. The business is expected to be consolidated from August 2014.
Swedish distributor Däck Partner has named Starco Sweden as one of its top three “Suppliers of the Year.” The company says this recognition from Däck Partner is “a welcome acknowledgement of the achievement of Starco Sweden, proving that the presence of a special wheel and tyre company in the Swedish market is worthwhile.”
Italian tyre firm Pirelli has recently scored well in test results carried out by Russian and Swedish publications. The tyres tested were both from the Cinturato family; Russia’s Za Rulem tested the Cinturato P1 while Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet tested the Cinturato P7.
