Bridgestone Unveils New In-Wheel Motor System

Bridgestone Corporation has unveiled a more compact, lighter version of its revolutionary in-wheel motor system for electric vehicles (Version III). Bridgestone first released details of the in-wheel motor system in September 2003. Then, a more compact and lighter version (Version II) was designed in September 2004. Based on this technology, Bridgestone developed the latest version especially for small tyre sizes.

Installing the drive motors inside the wheels means each wheel can be controlled individually, which supports excellent handling. It also eliminates the need for the differential gear and drive shaft and therefore allows for unprecedented freedom when designing vehicles. Designers can allocate more space to the driver and passengers without increasing the overall size and weight of the vehicle.

Dinan Tuner Cars to Ride on Advan Neova Tyres

(Akron/Tire Review) Yokohama Tire Corp.’s Advan Neova tyre brand has been named the exclusive tyre for Dinan’s modified BMWs and Minis. Dinan, which featured Advan Neova tyres on its cars at the Los Angeles Auto Show in January, will offer Advan tyres exclusively, according to Yokohama. More than 130 Dinan-authorised BMW/MINI Performance Centres will offer the tyres.

Sun Automatic Test Lane Gets VOSA Approval

The Sun VIC 3000 ATL Automatic Test Lane, from Snap-on Diagnostics, has been approved by VOSA for MoT testing.
Terry Smith, European Marketing Manager of Snap-on Diagnostics, said that the VIC 3000 ATL is available in Class IV and Class VII configurations and is one-man operated. He went on: “It is very easy to operate and uses a Windows-based software package that guides the operator through the testing procedure using icon driven command sequences for testing brakes, suspension and side slip. It offers rapid vehicle inspection diagnosis, is fast and accurate and also offers the possibility to integrate other Snap-on Diagnostic products into the Test Lane.”

Superior Industries’ Third Quarter Results

Superior Industries International, Inc has announced operating results for the third quarter and first nine months of 2005 in-line with management’s prior guidance and analysts’ expectations. For the three months ended 30 September 2005, revenue decreased 5.9 per cent to $187,618,000 from $199,328,000 for the third quarter of 2004. Wheel revenue declined 7.2 per cent to $178,288,000 from $192,164,000, as unit wheel shipments declined 7.8 per cent. Components revenue increased 30.2 per cent to $9,330,000 from $7,164,000.

BFS Units to Slow Customer Deliveries Due to Storms

Delphi Files Chapter 11

Automotive supplier Delphi has filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. General Motors, Delphi’s former parent company will bear the brunt of the collapse because it could be liable for up to $11 billion (£6 billion) worth of pension and retirement benefits for about 25,000 Delphi employees.
