Apprenticeship levy raises concerns, says NFDA

In April 2017 a new apprenticeship levy will be introduced with the purpose of increasing the quality and number of apprenticeships across UK. Employers with a wage-bill of less than £3 million will not pay the levy, whereas those with a wage-bill of £3 million or more will have to contribute at a rate of 0.5 per cent of their pay bill. However, the first £3 million of the payroll will be excluded by a discount that will give some relief, in line with smaller businesses.

February car registrations continue positive start to 2016

Figures from the Society of Motor manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) show that new car registrations continued the positive start to 2016 in February, growing 8.4 per cent compared with the same month in 2015. 83,395 new cars were registered in the month, marking the biggest February since 2004.

Satisfaction with manufacturers low in NFDA Dealer Attitude Survey

The NFDA Winter 2016 Dealer Attitude Survey has been published, showing that dealer networks’ satisfaction with their associated manufacturer has reached its lowest average level for several years. “The relationship between car dealers and car manufacturers recorded an average score of 6.1 – 0.1 points lower than the summer 2015 survey. This is the lowest score recorded in the past 8 surveys, suggesting that a number of dealer networks are slightly less satisfied with their relationship with their manufacturer,” said Sue Robinson, director of the National Franchised Dealers Association.

There remains room for “dealers in the showroom” believes Sue Robinson, director of the National Franchised Dealers Association (NFDA), following Auto Trader’s latest market review. The review shows that British car buyers are turning their backs on haggling, with a sharp rise in the number of motorists paying the asking price or more for a new or used car last year.

RMI applauds ’positive’ Autumn Statement

The RMI applauds the Chancellor’s confirmed commitment in ‘rebuilding Britain’ and an industrial strategy for the automotive sector for a decade in the recent Autumn Statement.

Car dealers urged to ensure GAP insurance rules compliance

The NFDA has urged dealers to ensure their compliance with new regulations governing the way in which Guaranteed Asset Protection (GAP) insurance is sold to consumers. Set out by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the new rules are due to come into effect on 1 September 2015. Dealers will be required to explain that customers must return to the dealership four days after purchasing their car if they want GAP insurance.

NFDA lobbies for increased ULEV support, following London deputy mayor speech

The National Franchise Dealer Association has stated that it remains “optimistic about the rise of Ultra Low Emission Vehicles (ULEVs), and London’s plans to become the ultra-low emission vehicle capital of Europe,” following a speech by Isabel Dedring, London’s deputy mayor for transport. Sue Robinson, the association’s director, added that the NFDA “hopes that there will be sufficient support to ensure their uptake.”

EU CV registrations rise 6 per cent in May

Figures published by ACEA show that, in May 2015, demand for new commercial vehicles in the EU increased (+6.0 per cent) for the fifth consecutive month, totalling 160,550 units. Growth was sustained across all commercial vehicle segments. Results were diverse among the major markets, with Germany (-9.1 per cent) and France (-5.6 per cent) facing a downturn, while Spain (+30.1 per cent) and the UK (+17.4 per cent) posted double‐digit growth.
