(Akron/Tire Review) Michelin Aircraft Tire Co. has been awarded a 10-year, $700 million-plus contract to supply tires to the U.S. military. Michelin officials said it was the company’s single largest contract ever.
Under the Defense Department Tire Privatization Initiative, Michelin will handle the wholesale supply, storage and distribution for all aircraft tires used by the U.S. military.

Specialist tyre distributor, Fieldens, based at Stowmarket, Suffolk has extended its specialist area of operation into the realm of pop concerts. Producers of the current Rolling Stones extravaganza required a method of propelling coloured tape into the air over the stage and turned to Fieldens to supply the answer. A series of large Bead Cheetah storage cylinders were mounted in a frame with the valves connected to solenoid switches. When charged the cylinders contained sufficient compressed air to launch the tapes high above the stage backdrop before they fell back in graceful arches.
ATS Euromaster has ordered 100 more Penny Hydraulics Single Wheel Lifts to promote safe and efficient tyre handling on its fleet of commercial dual purpose and truck service vehicles. According to Penny Hydraulics, the Single Wheel Lift has become the preferred choice by ATS Euromaster because it allows all sorts of tyres and wheels to be lifted on and off service vans without the need for manual handling which helps reduce the risk of personal injury to service technicians and enables the company to comply with health and safety regulations.

Brazil has defended its import ban on retreaded tyres on health and environment-related grounds, in its first written submission to the WTO regarding a dispute with the EU, the ICTSD has reported.
In November 2005, the EU formally challenged the WTO consistency of Brazil’s import ban on retreaded tyres, as well as related fines targeting the importation and subsequent marketing, transportation and storage of such tyres. Furthermore, the EU targeted Brazil’s exemption of some countries — Mercosur partners Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay — from these measures, arguing that it violated WTO rules.
