Negotiations between Faurecia, Michelin, and Stellantis have resulted in the signing of a binding agreement covering Stellantis’s acquisition of a 33.3% stake in zero-emission hydrogen mobility firm Symbio. Both Faurecia and Michelin now hold a 33.3% share in Symbio as well. The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the third quarter of 2023.
Negotiations have commenced for vehicle manufacturer Stellantis to acquire a “substantial stake” in zero-emission hydrogen mobility firm Symbio, with the expectation that it will become a “significant player” along with Faurecia and Michelin. Commenting on the negotiations, Michelin’s Florent Menegaux said the arrival of Stellantis will “catalyse the tremendous industrial momentum” that the existing stakeholders have already achieved.
The range-topping Maserati Grecale Trofeo and mild-hybrid Grecale MHEV are now available in European markets with bespoke Bridgestone Potenza Sport tyres. Stellantis chose Bridgestone as tyre partner for its new D-segment utility vehicle (D-UV), and the tyre maker developed a version of its flagship tyre with a new tread compound and pattern.
Continental says it has “developed a tyre with a significantly improved rolling resistance” for Peugeot, DS and Vauxhall vehicles with electric drives and combustion engines. Stellantis will factory-fit this 17-inch tyre on all electric SUVs, the Peugeot e-2008, the Vauxhall Mokka-E and the all-electric DS 3 Crossback E-Tense, as well as the combustion engine versions of these models.
The Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders (SMMT) has appointed Alison Jones, Stellantis senior vice-president and country manager UK, as its new president. Jones’ appointment to the role of president, which takes effect 1 January 2022, follows a year-long tenure as vice-president at the SMMT, where she contributed to the organisation’s direction and strategy.
Stellantis, the company created through the merger of Peugeot and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in January, has honoured Nexen Tire at its inaugural Supplier Awards. It awarded the tyre maker for Competitiveness, one of eight categories in this year’s event; Nexen was one of two firms recognised for “outstanding performance in terms of cost savings (commercial, process, technical solutions and logistics) and their proposals for a cost reduction portfolio in line with Stellantis’ objectives.”
Once the 50:50 merger Peugeot S.A. (Groupe PSA) and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles N.V. (FCA) is completed, the new group will be called Stellantis.
According to the companies, Stellantis is rooted in the Latin verb “stello” meaning “to brighten with stars”.
