Pro-Align Appoints New Area Sales Managers

Wayne Rogers and Jarett Lathey have joined Pro-Align to manage sales for the East and South East counties.

Rogers joins Pro-Align having been in the industry for over ten years: “I have watched Pro-Align progress over the years and in my opinion they very much have their fingers on the pulse. Since joining I have also come to appreciate why Hunter equipment is world leading! It is their quality, level of technology, the aims to make every job as easy as possible, whilst maximising profitability and savings for the end user, no matter the size and status.”

Lathey brings extensive sales experience to Pro-Align, although new to alignment equipment (having sold power tool equipment previously). Standard & Poor’s ‘B+’ Rating Affirmed for Giti Tire

Standard & Poor’s Ratings Services said it has affirmed Giti Tire’s “B+” long-term corporate credit rating with a “negative” outlook, based upon the company’s weak financials going into 2009. It also affirmed Giti’s “B-” foreign-currency issue rating on the company’s unsecured notes. Furthermore, Standard & Poor’s says all Giti’s ratings have been removed from CreditWatch, where they had been placed with “negative implications” in September.

Accuride Receives NYSE Suspension Notice

On November 10 Accuride Corporation received notice that prior to the opening of the New York Stock Exchange on Wednesday, November 12 its stock would be suspended from trading. The NYSE noted that Accuride’s suspension from trading is due to the fact that the company fell below the NYSE’s continued listing standard regarding average global market capitalisation over a consecutive 30 trading day period of not less than US$25 million, an amount the NYSE views as a minimum threshold for continued trading.

S&P Lowers Goodyear’s Credit Rating

On November 5 Standard & Poor’s lowered Goodyear Tire & Rubber’s credit rating outlook from “positive” to “stable” due to decreasing demand for tyres. Goodyear’s long-term corporate rating remains at BB-, three grades below investment quality, the financial market intelligence provider said in a statement.

Company Adds to Portable Nitrogen Line

Parker Hannifin has added a new portable nitrogen tyre inflation system to its TireSaver product line. The newest system, said the company, will produce 95 per cent pure nitrogen from standard compressed air.

The cart-mounted TireSaver Model TS051-0ABCBR features a 30 gallon storage tank; built-in auto inflator that purges and fills up to six tyres simultaneously; built-in counter to keep track of a dealer’s nitrogen business; two pressure gauges to monitor inlet and outlet pressure; a plastic bezel design to eliminate potential damage from accidental contact with a vehicle; and hand held nitrogen analyser. Nissan to Recall Defective Wheel Nut Vehicles

In the US Nissan has issued a recall of up to 3.4 million Altima cars due to a potentially dangerous wheel problem. This issue affects the 2009 model – why wait until next year to own a defective vehicle when you can have one right now? – fitted with 16-inch alloy wheels, although the problem is reportedly restricted to those cars built at the company’s Canton, Mississippi factory between July 24 and August 14. The wheel nuts apparently become loose of their own volition, a ‘standard feature’ Nissan rightly believes is not very helpful.

Aufine to Output 10 Million Passenger Tyres in 2009

Chinese tyre manufacturer Aufine Group Co., Ltd has announced that it is now developing new ranges of ultra high performance and standard passenger car radial tyres. The company’s passenger car radial manufacturing output volume is expected to total some 10 million units in 2009. According to the company, the new range will be amongst the best quality in the world due to the factory’s cooperation with a tyre company ranked “within the top seven in the world.” Aufine’s new UHP range is expected to initially include 14 sizes ranging 195/45 R15 to 225/40R18 XL. Dozen of standard passenger car sizes will be made available.

New ISO Quality Standard Agreed

The International Standards Organization and International Accreditation Forum say they have agreed a new schedule for accredited certification to ISO 9001:2008. They say this will mean a smooth move to ISO 9001:2008, the latest version of the world’s most widely used standard for quality management systems.

Like all of ISO’s more than 17,000 standards, ISO 9001 is periodically reviewed to make sure that it is up to date. ISO 9001:2008, due to be published before the end of the year, will replace the year 2000 version of the standard which is used by implemented by business and public sector organisations in 170 countries.

Amerityre Partners Defence Industry Contractor

Amerityre Corporation has entered into a development programme with an unnamed multi-billion dollar defence industry contractor that is a leader in aerospace composite technology. The objective of the Phase I development programme is to establish the base line performance characteristics of Amerityre’s polyurethane passenger car tyre incorporating a “composite hoop” belt, as opposed to traditional tyre belting material.

The composite hoop belt has been investigated in rubber tyre applications by Edward Markow of Edward Markow Consulting. Under the programme, Amerityre will provide the polyurethane tyre design and material, the defence contractor partner will fabricate the composite hoop belts and Markow will consult on the programme.

Kumho to Focus on Regional Truck Sector

Kumho’s current focus in the truck tyre segment is on the development of new products for the regional market. With this in mind, the company says that it is following closely the evolution of distribution trends. Today’s market sees the haulier faced with an increasingly complex network of routes, comprising many different road types and surfaces. As a result, the wear rates on tyres in these operations are inevitably higher than in long-haul, mainly motorway, usage. Recognising that durability and wear performance are two key factors influencing operators in their choice of tyres, Kumho is introducing new steer, drive and trailer patterns which provide a very competitive package in cost-per-mile terms.

The Longmark KRS 03 steer and KRD 02 drive axle tyres specifically address the problem of increased wear rates. Each has a wide, deep tread pattern which aims to give tyres longer life and increased driving stability in all highway applications. A newly-developed casing design reduces stress points and heat build-up, also to improve durability. The S-shaped sipes of the KRS 03 are designed to produce enhanced wet grip, stability and handling, while the KRD 02’s sturdy tread blocks result in more effective traction and braking in all weather conditions.

Bridgestone Equip 2009 Infiniti FX

Bridgestone has won the OE-contract to supply the 2009 Infiniti FX. The luxury sporty hatchback range will ride exclusively on Bridgestone-brand Dueler tyres.

The Dueler H/P 92A in size P265/60R18 109V is standard equipment on the V6-powered FX35 and FX35 AWD while the 390-horsepower, V8-powered FX50 is shod with Bridgestone Dueler H/L 400 tyres in size P265/45R21 104V. This Dueler H/L 400 is the first-ever application of a 21-inch tire on Infiniti’s sporty crossover.

Michelin, PTP Sign Service Agreement

Because of a marketing agreement signed between Michelin and Professional Transportation Partners, 180 travel plazas, truck stops and shop facilities will officially be included in Michelin’s “wherever you go” revolution effective Sept. 1. The locations will offer Michelin products and services, which have seen unprecedented growth due to market demand for Michelin’s X One wide single truck tires, the tiremaker said.

“We have been doing great business for years with many individual PTP locations,” said Guy Pekle, vice president of sales for Michelin Americas Truck Tires. “This agreement allows us to translate the success that we have built with individual truck stops to the entire PTP network across the continent. PTP has developed a standard for service to the trucking community that we admire, and we are confident that this joint marketing agreement is going to benefit their member truck stops as well as our joint fleet customers.” (Tire Review/Akron)

Bridgestones OE on New Infiniti FX

The 2009 Infiniti FX rides exclusively on Bridgestone Dueler tyres. Dueler H/P 92A tyres in size P265/60R18 109V are standard equipment on the V6-powered FX35 and FX35 AWD while the 390-horsepower, V8-powered FX50 is shod with Dueler H/L 400 tyres in size P265/45R21 104V. This Dueler H/L 400 is the first-ever application of a 21-inch tyre on Infiniti’s sporty crossover. Also available as optional equipment for the V6-powered 2009 Infiniti FX35 and FX35 AWD are size P265/50R20 106V Dueler H/P 92A tyres.
