Motorists in Brazil, host country for next year’s World Cup, now have the chance to buy an officially-endorsed commemorative tyre. Continental has launched a World Cup edition of its ContiPowerContact, complete with footballs and FIFI World Cup logo on the sidewall. The tyre’s release is being supplemented by an extensive advertising campaign in print and electronic media, radio and television.
On 21 August, Apollo Tyres signed a three-year partnership with Manchester United, which sees the company named as the official tyre of the world-famous football team across both the UK and India. Details of the investment associated with the deal have not been released. What we do know is that as well as access to player appearances in both countries the company will be making the most of its association with Man U in online advertising as well as its marketing and point of sale material. In addition, in a development of its ‘go the distance’ philosophy, Apollo Tyres will create football-based play zones in local communities in the UK and India; these will feature recycled rubber and encourage healthy lifestyles among youngsters.
It was announced today that Apollo Tyres is now Manchester United’s Official Tyre Partner in the UK and India. Tyres & Accessories was present at the deal’s signing at the club’s Aon Training Complex in Carrington and will report full details; the basics are that the three-year agreement will, amongst other things, see the two parties participate in a “joint community commitment to encourage healthy lifestyles and develop sporting skills in young people.”
Between 6 and 13 October, the World Solar Challenge 2013 will take place in Australia, and Bridgestone has signed up as title sponsor. This will be the 12th time the competition has taken place since 1987, and the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 2013 will see a record 45 teams from 26 countries compete in a 3000-kilometre cross-country race using only solar energy to power the vehicles. The event will feature three separate classes – Adventure Class, which will showcase cars built for previous events; Cruiser Class, which will be judged by design practicality, and Challenger Class, which will compete for the title of the world's most efficient solar car.
Bridgestone’s title sponsorship of the World Golf Championships-Bridgestone Invitational has been extended through to 2018. The continuation of this arrangement, which began in 2006, was announced by Bridgestone Corporation CEO Masaaki Tsuya and Bridgestone Americas CEO and president Gary Garfield together with Commissioner Tim Finchem, who represents the International Federation of PGA Tours, during a press conference prior to the leaders teeing off for the final round of the 2013 Bridgestone Invitational. Bridgestone also extended its official marketing partner relationship with the PGA Tour through 2018 and will remain the “Official Tire of the PGA Tour and Champions Tour.”
The 2013 NTDA Golf Day, sponsored once again by Westlake Tyres, was held on Wednesday, 24 July. The setting was the stunning stately home of Brocket Hall, which stands in 540 acres of grounds and boasts two championship golf courses. The NTDA event took place on the Palmerston course and, unlike last year at The Belfry, when a torrential rainstorm swept the course, the day's play took place in brilliant sunshine. Supertracker has given wheel alignment support to West Midlands father and son driving team, Keith and Dylan Evans and their Subaru Legacy Estate in the annual Help4Heroes 4×4 European Rally 2013. The team was awarded Total Off-Road Magazine’s 'Best Non Land Rover performance', having been primed by Supertracker, which set up and adjusted the wheel alignment and sourced special Landsail tyres for the 14-day trip across a number of European countries, visiting numerous battle locations and memorial sites from WW1 and WW2.
Maxxis is supporting the drifting ambitions of one of its promotional team of Maxxis Babes. Michelle Westby has set her sights on achieving her semi-pro licence by the end of 2013 having taken up drifting a year ago and the tyre supplier that originally made her part of its motorsport marketing presence is supporting her driving ambitions with sponsorship, tyres and website assistance. Maxxis International managing director Derek McMartin says the relationship is “proving to be mutually beneficial.”
How time flies. It seems like just the other day that William Harley and the Davidson brothers were tinkering about in a machine shop in Milwaukee, but the motorcycle brand that bears their names has now reached the ripe old age of 110. Harley-Davidson intends to celebrate this milestone throughout the year, and Dunlop has been chosen as the official tyre sponsor of the company’s global anniversary events.
Young Redditch motocross rider Rob Yates’ hopes for national stardom were given a boost today when tyre manufacturer Bridgestone agreed to become his official sponsor. Aged 15, Yates has gradually moved up in stages from 50cc to 125cc bikes and is currently preparing for the British schoolboy Finals later in the year. Bridgestone will supply him with his tyres for the year, as well as essential racing gear.
Singapore-based YHI International’s Advanti Racing propriety brand has been named ‘official supplier’ to the Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team. Through YHI International’s subsidiary, YHI Manufacturing (Singapore) Pte Ltd, the group has inked an agreement to supply Advanti Racing Alloy Wheels for all Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 race cars through to the end of the 2015 championship.
Maxxis International has appointed Jas Ghata-Aura to the new position of online content developer. Maxxis says the appointment forms part of its heightening focus on digital communications. The tyre manufacturer, driven by the belief that online and social media platforms are fast becoming the most effective ways of communicating directly with consumers, has emphasised new media channels in growing its brand already and boasts a strong existing following on its social media channels as a result. It is hoped Ghata-Aura’s appointment will help to strengthen and build Maxxis’ presence, which in turn will give more existing and potential customers the opportunity to interact with the brand and its assets on a daily basis.
In addition to continuing its partnership with top North American football league Major League Soccer (MLS) and extending its agreement with the sporting body’s commercial arm Soccer United Marketing (SUM), on 6 May Continental Tire announced a new partnership with U.S. Soccer.
Kick off at the opening match of the next World Cup is just over 14 months away, and Germany’s Continental AG is once again a sponsor of the FIFA-organised event. As part of its World Cup involvement, Continental has committed itself to the UERE education project in the Favelas, or the Baixa do Sapateiro slum district of Rio de Janeiro. The UERE project targets children and youths aged between 4 and 18, and over a three-year period Continental will use the media attention the football world’s premier event will give Brazil to raise the profile of UERE and what the project has achieved.
Falken Tyres reports that it will be the first tyre company to explore the advertising potential of two digital screens on the M5 and M6 motorways. According to the company, the adverts will be used to reach out to motorists, especially those making Easter holiday journeys.
The boards display adverts on both the North and South sides, rotating a 15 second Falken advert every minute for 24 hours a day. The adverts will be displayed for 14 days which will result in a total of 40,320 Falken adverts being projected to passing motorists.
