At last week’s SIMA show in Paris, Alliance Tire Group launched three new patterns; the tyre maker says all three utilise state of the art IF and VF technologies, designed at the group’s research and development testing. ATG says its IF and VF products have undergone “comprehensive lab and field testing” and the range will be completed in the coming future.
Yokohama Tire Corporation-sponsored off-roaders Cameron and Heidi Steele are competing in the storied SCORE Tecate Baja 1000, at Mexico's Baja Peninsula, betweenNovember 14-17. The Steeles, along with their Desert Assassins teammates, will race on various Geolandar tyres along the demanding course. The 45th running of the race goes from Ensenada to La Paz and is the SCORE (Southern California Off Road Enthusiasts) racing series season finale.
It seems that the Department for Transport's announcement of its consultation: Examining the Speed Limit for Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs) over 7.5T on Single Carriageway Roads has met with widespread approval from the freight and logistics industries, as the latest organisation to welcome the announcement is the Freight Transport Association.
News of the Department for Transport's consultation on raising the speed limit on single-carriageway roads has met with the approval of the Road Haulage Association.
RHA Director of Policy Jack Semple said: "The consultation is clear and balanced and we will be responding formally in due course.
Firestone is presenting its latest agricultural tyre innovations at the EIMA 2012 agricultural fair in Bologna between 7-11 November. Hankook is introducing its Hankook Masters Programme in the UK with the recent launch of Mr Tyre in Leicester. According to the company, the Hankook Masters Programme has been designed to create a consistent retail expression across all shop formats to provide a unified brand experience to consumers. Hankook Tyre UK has been working in partnership with independent retail customers to identify depots situated in prime locations across the UK who stock and actively promote the Hankook brand. The Hankook Masters Programme is set to continue to expand into the New Year with plans to complete in excess of 100 new shops during the next three years across the UK.

Ford has once again chosen Goodyear’s Eagle SuperCar G:2 as original equipment on its most powerful Mustang, the Shelby GT500. The 2013 Shelby, which is now available in North America, is fitted with the Goodyear tyre in size P265/40ZR19 on the front axle and P285/35ZR20 on the rear.
Falken Drift Team driver Lars Verbraeken has set a new Guinness World Record as the fastest drifter, driving his Falken-shod 503ps BMW E30 at a speed of 111.59 mph, whilst keeping the car at a 45º angle for a distance of over 50 metres.
The Liberal Democrats voted overwhelmingly in favour of widespread 20mph limits, and government investment in this, at their party conference, which is taking place this week.
They called for local authorities "to give active consideration to introducing 20mph limits in existing residential and other suitable roads over the next few years, with schemes to be designed in consultation with local residents" and for a minister within the Department for Transport to be responsible for working with local authorities to achieve this.

Techking Tires reports the launch of a new mixed service pattern it developed based on input from partners in Australia and Latin America. The TKAM C+, 11R22.5 has been designed for mix road service and uses what Techking calls its ‘Noise Buffer’ design which, as the name suggests, is said to reduce noise. It also features a ‘Stone Shy’ design to prevent stone retention, the tyre maker adds.
The Association of British Drivers (ABD) has criticised the call by some Liberal Democrats to impose a 20-mph speed limit in all residential areas, effectively replacing the 30 limit by 20.
There is no evidence that this will have any benefit in reducing injuries and deaths from road traffic accidents, while it will impose very substantial costs to both implement this change and in on-going costs imposed on drivers because of the increased travel times that would result. Indeed compliance will be exceedingly questionable, with enforcement also difficult, and is likely to bring the law into disrepute.
Nankang has added to its winter tyre line-up with the release of the Winter Activa SV-55. The new SUV-specific tyre is available in 11 sizes for 16 to 20-inch rim diameters and in H, V and W speed ratings. The Taiwanese tyre maker says the asymmetrical tread pattern used on the SV-55 provides high drainage performance, while the large blocks on the outer edge are said to provide comfortable cornering maneuverability.
