Rockingham Adds Wet Grip Facility

The Rockingham circuit is best-known as the UK’s most modern and only purpose-built motor sport facility and the venue for exciting and action-packed motor racing. However, there is more to Rockingham than competitive motorsports, as the circuit is regularly used for testing, demonstration and driver training programmes. Apart from the original high-speed oval track, the facility boasts multiple in-field race circuit configurations, 4×4 off-road courses, a challenging rally stage and a city driving course.

Bridgestone To Double Aircraft Radial Production

Bridgestone Corporation has announced that it will begin production of radial tyres for aircraft at its Tokyo Plant. To date, production for new radial aircraft tyres has been undertaken only at the Kurume Plant, and Bridgestone will introduce a second site to increase capacity in line for meeting global demand growth and thus to ensure supply risk management. Through this move, Bridgestone’s production capacity for radial aircraft tyres by 2011 will be double the current level. Bridgestone plans to start production at the Tokyo Plant in the second half of 2008. Total investment earmarked for the project is around five billion Yen (33.5 million euros).

Coker Tire Rolls Out 65 Series Silvertown

(Akron/Tire Review) Coker Tire has introduced a newly developed 65 Series BFGoodrich Silvertown whitewall radial. The tyre features a wider, lower profile than the current 70 Series Whitewall radials, Coker said. Constructed with all of the safety and performance aspects modern radial tyre technology affords, Coker said, the new BFGoodrich Silvertown 65 Series Whitewall radials are S-speed rated and carry a 540 BB UTQG rating.

Quicksilver’s Range Rover Sport ‘Supersports’ Exhaust

Following the success of the QuickSilver stainless steel ‘SuperSport’ exhaust system for the Range Rover Sport V8 SuperCharged, the engineering team at QuickSilver has introduced another exciting tailpipe design. The new tip shape is oval (150x80mm) and fits into the existing space in the rear valance. They are mirror polished and made from the finest quality stainless steel, are 10kgs lighter than standard and are a bolt-on fitment. The new exhaust system allows the speed and volume of the exhaust gas flow to be increased, producing a noticeable improvement in throttle response.

New Sizes Added to Interstate Range

As part of its continuing size updating programme, Interstate Tires is introducing two new popular sizes. From December 2006 Interstate Sport IXT-1 will be available in 225/55R16 RF (reinforced) 99W, while the Interstate Sport IXT-1 will also come in 235/45R17 RF 97W. The Sport IXT-1 is described as an Ultra High Performance tyre with a directional pattern. The Sport IXT-1 boasts a special performance compound and tread pattern, for “incredible road holding in all conditions, especially in wet.” The programme runs from 13 to 18 inches and is available up to W-speed-rating and lots of XL load indexes.

Carmakers Must Reveal Black Boxes

(Akron/Tire Review) After more than a decade of study, US federal safety regulators have outlined minimum requirements for “black boxes” in vehicles, but stopped short of mandating them. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration issued a new rule that says the devices, officially known as “event data recorders,” must be made more durable and that all automakers must collect the same type of data from them.

Bridgestone Turanzas OE on New Toyota Prius

Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire, LLC (BFNAT) has announced that Bridgestone Turanza EL40002 tyres will be original equipment on the new 2007 Toyota Prius Touring Edition. BFNAT will supply the tyres in size P195/55R16 86V. The Bridgestone Turanza EL40002 is described as a “V-speed rated, all-season, luxury, touring original equipment tyre.” The 2007 Touring Edition of the Toyota Prius is hitting US dealerships this month.

Michelin Dundee Management Discuss 2008 Production Levels

Staff at Michelin’s Dundee tyre production plant are reportedly concerned about the outcome of management negotiations over future production levels at the factory. The Baldovie factory currently produces six and a half million tyres a year and is scheduled to do so again in 2007. Production levels for 2008, however, are still being decided, with talks currently being held between officials at the Dundee plant and in Clermont-Ferrand, the Dundee Evening Telegraph added.

Michelin Wins “Journal des Finances” Award

Michelin has been awarded 3rd Prize in an annual survey of shareholder services of the companies comprising the CAC 40 index. The 2006 survey carried out by “Journal des Finances” gave Total and Société Générale 1st and 2nd prize respectively. This third annual survey found that 67.5 per cent of the forty companies in the CAC 40, provide a quality, shareholder-driven service.

Honda F1 and BMW Lifted by Maywood

Maywood Equipment Group has supplied the Honda Formula One team, based in Brackley, Northamptonshire, with a floor-to-floor platform lift (The Move 30) for the team’s wind tunnel complex. The Move 30 is a high-rise elevator type vehicle lift with a travel range of 1.8 to 12 metres and a capacity of three tonnes. In addition to taking cars from one floor to another it is also ideal for basement or roof parking. At Honda the lift takes vehicles from the ground level to the wind tunnel on the first floor and then up to the museum on the second floor.
