Hankook Tire has obtained the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) PLUS mark, which recognises its sustainability initiatives throughout the entire value chain from sourcing of renewable raw materials to sustainable finished products. The tyre maker points out that it’s the first firm in the tyre manufacturing industry to gain this status.
Guinness World Records has acknowledged the Hankook Tire-supported ‘Volkswagen ID.4: Great Roadshow through the U.S.’ as the longest continuous journey by an electric vehicle (non-solar) in a single country. The 35,000-mile trip took place between 13 July and 18 October. The team’s VW ID.4 visited all 48 contiguous US states in all-electric mode, thereby breaking the previous record that was set in 2019.
Hankook Tire and Apollo Tyres are the latest tyre manufacturers to align their natural rubber procurement policies with the framework adopted by the Global Platform for Sustainable Natural Rubber (GPSNR) in September 2020. Indian firm Apollo has released its first natural rubber policy document, while South Korea’s Hankook has updated the policy it introduced in 2018. Earlier this week, Yokohama Rubber announced it had altered its natural rubber procurement policy to accommodate the GPSNR policy framework.
The Hankook Smart Touring AL22 is specifically designed for bus and coach applications, and Hankook Tire & Technology is selling the tyre in all major global markets. After its launch in Europe, North America and the Middle East, Hankook is now introducing the Smart Touring AL22 in Asia.
After missing a year due to its corona-related cancellation, W Series is back in 2021. Returning with it is exclusive tyre partner Hankook, supplying Ventus Race tyres to all entries in the single-seater series.
Solutions provided by Tableau Software are driving digitalisation within Hankook Tire. The tyre maker shares that thanks to Tableau’s data-driven analytics platform, it has gained “next-generation business intelligence.”

As of mid-January 2020, Soo II Lee will become president of Hankook Tire America Corp. He will serve in this capacity alongside his existing remit of president and chief operating officer of Hankook Tire & Technology, an arrangement that will see him split his time between Hankook’s America headquarters in Nashville, Tennessee and the company’s global headquarters in Seoul, Korea.
In addition to new president and CEO Soo Il Lee, who will serve alongside Hyun Bum Cho as a separate representative of the company from 1 January 2018, Hankook Tire Co. Ltd. has named a new executive vice-president, five senior vice-presidents and 17 vice-presidents. Announcing these appointments, the tyre maker states that it has restructured its organisation to “respond to the global market and customers with more agility.”
Soo-Il Lee has been appointed president and chief operating officer of Hankook Tire, effective 1 January 2018.
