Almost 80 per cent of independents have been using the same garage management system for more than three years and risk “getting left behind by the dealer networks”, according to TechMan.
The findings, which were revealed in a survey of independent garages, also show that a staggering 40 per cent have had the same management system for more than five years, with just 13 per cent having switched in the last year.

E3 Technical, software and staff supplier to online automotive reference company Carweb, has been acquired by HaynesPro, the professional data solutions business of Haynes Publishing Group plc. (Haynes). The move will strengthen Haynes’ online technical data presence in the UK, according to the company. HaynesPro is the European market leader for online automotive workshop data for the automotive aftermarket. Serving more than 50,000 workshops through its European partners, it has been collaborating with Carweb since 2009. Darryl Watts, formerly E3 technical sales director, has become the new managing director of HaynesPro UK.

Fleet software needs to be ready to respond to new technological advancements as smart vehicles start to flood the market, with a primary focus on the importance of data security, says Chevin. The company points out that autonomous and connected cars and vans are becoming increasingly popular amongst British drivers, so it’s important that fleet software adapts simultaneously in order to support increased levels of data and tighter security measures that will be needed.
Fleet maintenance and breakdown specialist Tyrenet is the first dealer network to implement CAM’s UniSerV V7.2 platform. The platform will connect Tyrenet to other UniSerV users that are fully integrated with e-jobsheet as well as standalone e-jobsheet subscribers via the TiDaeX online hub.
Bartec Auto ID Limited (Bartec) has upgraded its PC software program, TPMS Desktop, but it remains free-of-charge to its 11,000 tyre and repair shop users. The company said the introduction of the software is designed to improve operational efficiencies and offer business enhancements for its fleet and commercial service operations. Swedish software house Compilator announced that it has agreed to acquire English tyre software specialist Team Systems Ltd on 15 September. As a result of the acquisition Compilator gains about 500 new customers as well as six new employees.
