Following up today’s release of August new car registration data, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders has added country-based statistics showing that England is leading the way from the home nations.
Demand for commercial vehicles has increased in August, with overall new registrations rising 15.3 per cent, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders states. In the year to date, demand has risen 19.0 per cent to 255,849 units, with truck demand in particular rising (38.3 per cent up to 49,890 in 2015). Growth in August for the truck sector saw registrations up 20.2 per cent.
According to figures published today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders, Britain’s new car market recorded its 42nd consecutive month of growth in August – albeit in one of the year’s quietest months. New car registrations increased 9.6 per cent to 79,060 for the month, taking year-to-date growth to a healthy 6.7 per cent.
Britain’s commercial vehicle manufacturing industry continued its strong recovery in July, with production volumes up 46.3 per cent over the same month last year. A total of 9,274 CVs were built in the month, with output for the UK market posting an especially strong gain of 137.6 per cent.
The SMMT is receiving entries for its Automotive Award for Innovation, which recognises UK-developed concepts and technologies with the potential to transform the automotive industry.
UK CV registrations rose 3.7 per cent in July, with strong truck demand outweighing a small drop in vans, according to SMMT figures.
The year-to-date performance for the overall market remained positive, with 2015 registrations up 19.3 per cent. One factor is the operators’ continued drive for maximum efficiency, which was reflected in surging demand for heavier vans and trucks.
