Yokohama Tire is giving truck fleet owners in the USA a chance to try out its 101ZLT steer tyre in open comparison with other tyres on the open roads in what the company is calling the 101ZLT SmartSolutionT Challenge. The contest will begin at the Mid-America Trucking Show (MATS) in Louisville, Kentucky between 31 March and 2 April.
Kumho Tires reports that its KLT02e trailer tyre, which will soon be available through dealers in North America, has achieved SmartWay certification by the US Environmental Protection Agency. In order to receive the SmartWay designation, the KLT02e needed to demonstrate a reduction in Nitrogen Oxide (NOx) emissions for an estimated fuel savings of three per cent or greater, relative to the “best selling” new tyres for line haul trucks, when used on all five axles on long haul class 8 trucks.
Cooper Tire has announced the first ‘SmartWay’ verification of a member of its commercial vehicle tyre range. The company’s Roadmaster RM180 long haul steer tyre has been added to the US Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay Transport Partnership list of low rolling resistance commercial vehicle tyres after meeting the required criteria.
Liverpool-based wholesaler Kirkby Tyres is promoting the latest additions to its Double Coin range of “non premium” truck tyres. According to the company, three new 19.5-inch low profile tyres in sizes 445/45R19.5, 435/50R19.5 and 385/55R19.5 were recently added to the range. To complement these, a selection of low profile 22.5-inch tyres have also been released in 295/60R22.5, 315/60R22.5 and 385/55R22.5. Double Coin products are already available in 17.5, 20, 22.5, 24 and 24.5 variants.
Continental Tire the Americas reports that its entire regional steer tyre range has now been added to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWay Transport Partnership’s list of verified fuel savings technologies with the recent verification Conti's HSR2 (Heavy Steer Regional), HSR1 and HSR truck tyres. This brings the total number of SmartWay verified Conti steer tyres to six. The company also offers three SmartWay verified drive tyres and two trailer tyres.
Four truck tyres from Continental Tire the Americas’ General Tire brand have been verified as low rolling resistance products by the US EPA SmartWay Transport Partnership. The tyres in question are the S581, S371, D660 and ST250: The S581 is a long-haul steer tyre featuring an 18/32-inch five rib tread design. The S371 long-haul steer and drive tyre has 20/32-inch tread depth. Its tread compound is intended to provide long highway miles while resisting cuts and tears in off-highway use. The D660 is a long-haul drive tyre with 30/32-inch tread depth and a closed shoulder tread design for long, even wear. The ST250, a long-haul trailer tyre features a 13/32-inch tread depth, stone ejection system and patented VAI visual alignment indicators to alert drivers of tracking problems.
Continental Tire the Americas has unveiled a new steer and all-position tyre for long distance motor coaches. The HSL1 Coach, which the manufacturer reports has been submitted for verification under the US Environmental Protection Authority’s ‘SmartWay’ programme, is designed to offer a quiet ride along with low rolling resistance and fuel economy – these last two features are said to be aided by the compound and tread design used in the HSL1 Coach.
Toyo Tires reports the SmartWay certification of a fourth commercial vehicle tyre in its US range. The US Environmental Protection Agency has certified the M154 steer tyre as meeting the SmartWay criteria when used in a set on a rig equipped with Toyo’s M657 drive tyre and M127 free-rolling tyre for trailer axles. Owners and fleet operators can now choose between two Toyo products for the steer position, the M154 for regional trucking and the M137 for long-haul applications.
Continental Tire the Americas reports it new low rolling resistance version of its HDL2 DL Eco Plus drive tyre, due for commercial release in June in 275/80R22.5 size, has been added to the US Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay Transport Partnership’s list of low rolling resistance commercial vehicle tyres.
Bridgestone Americas has added to its collection of EPA SmartWay certified medium truck radials – with the first two P&D tyres approved, reports Tire Review.
Four more North American market Yokohama commercial vehicle tyres have been added to the US Environmental Protection Agency's SmartWay list of verified fuel-saving technologies for tyres. This brings the number to seven of Yokohama products that are recognised as SmartWay "low rolling resistance tyres." SmartWay Transport, a collaboration between the EPA and the freight sector, is designed to improve energy efficiency and energy scrutiny, and reduce greenhouse gas and air pollutant emissions.
Yokohama Tire Corp. has been named a “partner” by the EPA SmartWay programme. Yokohama’s new partnership status is in the “shippers” category, which means that the company ships more than 50 per cent of its products on SmartWay-certified transport carriers.
According to the EPA, Yokohama’s freight efforts will contribute to the goal of eliminating 33 to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012. (Tire Review/Akron)
Three Yokohama medium truck tyres have been approved by the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay program, which promotes cleaner, more efficient truck technologies. Yokohama’s RY617 steer tyre, 703ZL drive tyre and RY587MC2 trailer tyre met the SmartWay program’s rolling resistance criteria, the tyremaker said. With the approval, the tyres can be used on trucks that are SmartWay-certified.
“Yokohama is honored to be recognized by the EPA for our efforts to produce truck tyres that help save fuel and protect the environment,” said John Cooney, Yokohama’s director of commercial sales. “Receiving approval into the SmartWay program reinforces our pledge to our commercial customers to produce the most technologically-advanced tyres on the market.” (Tire Review/Akron)
(Akron/Tire Review) Goodyear’s Unisteel G316 LHT with its Fuel Max Technology has been tapped as the standard radial on Wabash National’s DuraPlate dry van trailer. The supply deal is for one year, Goodyear said. Wabash’s DuraPlate dry van trailer recently received certification in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s SmartWay Transport Partnership, and Goodyear’s line haul tyres with Fuel Max Technology have been approved for use on SmartWay tractors and trailers.
