SmarTire’s High Pressure European Launch

SmarTire Systems Inc has announced it will make its tyre pressure monitoring system for high pressure tyres available in Europe. According to the company, the system is designed to work in high pressure environments of between 150 and 200 psi.

SmarTire chose the Automechanika show in Frankfurt as the venue for its high pressure product’s European debut. Commenting on the news John Taylor-Wilson, VP sales and marketing, said: “The impact of TPMS on large vehicles translates into solid and demonstrable cost savings and benefits to the owners and operators of these vehicles. Combined with the safety aspect of our products, these benefits have already generated considerable market interest in TPMS. SmarTire for high-pressure tyres such as buses, recreational and commercial vehicle applications will be aggressively introduced in the respective European markets.

ATS and CV Show on Track for Another Success

Organisers have confirmed that exhibitor space sales for the combined 2005 Automotive Trade Show and the CV Show, are already well ahead of what the 2004 figures were this time last year.

The SOE, RHA and SMMT, which comprise the CV Show Partnership, claim that the combination is attracting a lot of interest following the success of this year’s event and that over 30 per cent of ATS exhibitors have already re-booked for 2005.

Crypton Technology Group is one of those companies, which has chosen to exhibit again next year. Walt Koloska, group sales and marketing director of the company comments: “After so many years of asking for a combination of ATS and the CV Show, this year’s event proved the value of listening to the market. The Crypton Group stand is a healthy 25 per cent larger than this year and will feature technology leading kit for all vehicle types.”

According to organisers, the show, which is effectively two trade exhibitions in one, had its most successful year in 2004, with a combined total of almost 29,000 visitors and 600 exhibitors.

Robin Dickeson, spokesman for the event, added: “The event has grown in recent years, which is testimony to the fact that it is delivering real value to exhibitors and their customers. Visitors can meet and do business with a huge variety of existing and potential suppliers under one roof, in a very short space of time, something that is of enormous value in these busy times.” cma

SmarTire Making an Exhibition of Itself

SmarTire Systems has embarked on a new marketing programme that will see it participating in leading industry trade shows in North America and Europe. The company intends to showcase its product line of tyre monitoring systems in conjunction with its distributors and dealers at various international events.

The company has already made its exhibition debut at an event sponsored by the Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA). The 72nd International Convention was held in Redmond, Oregon and attracted 20,000 attendees in more than 4,500 motor homes from the North American recreational vehicle market.

John Taylor-Wilson, VP Sales and Marketing, SmarTire Systems Inc, said: “SmarTire is exhibiting its innovative tyre monitoring products at the most successful trade shows in North America and Europe this fall. These trade fairs have evolved into international marketing events that play an invaluable role in expanding new product awareness and achieving sales performance.”

Next on the company’s list are Intermot and Automechanika, both scheduled to be held mid September in Germany.

Amerityre Appoint Chief Financial Officer

Amerityre Corp has appointed Anders Suarez as chief financial officer. Prior to the appointment Mr Suarez had been employed as the company’s financial systems administrator, a position he had held since October 2003.

GEA Represented on the CVS and ATS Committee

The Garage Equipment Association will now be represented in both the Automotive Trade Show and Commercial Vehicle Show Committee.

It has nominated Walt Koloska, sales and marketing director, of the Crypton Technology Group, a member of the GEA, to represent it on the committee.

MAHA Boosts its Sales Team

MAHA UK has appointed Peter Clarke to its sales team. Mr Clarke will now be responsible for providing support to the company’s distributors in central and north west England, and in promoting the sale of its commercial vehicle test lanes.

Mr Clarke boasts years experience in the garage equipment industry, having worked for Brown Brothers’ Garage Equipment Division, Gemco and Trojan Garage Equipment in south Gloucestershire.

Commenting on Mr Clarke’s appointment, Kevin Howard, director of sales and marketing, said, “We are delighted to have Peter as part of our team. His previous experience in the garage equipment industry will aid MAHA’s continuing success in supplying quality test and inspection equipment to garages and motor manufacturers. He has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the motor industry which will naturally be a great benefit to MAHA.”

Akron based Smithers Scientific Services has appointed Derek A Read as operations manager for its Ravenna, Ohio, laboratories. In his new position, Mr Read will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the facility.

Beijing Boom Receives First Shipment of SmarTire for Buses

Chinese distributor, Beijing Boom Technology, has received its first volume shipment of 100 ‘SmarTire for Buses’ systems. The tyre monitoring systems will be marketed to tourism and public system bus operators in China.

Crypton Technology Group has bought Traction Charger Company Ltd. The acquisition will see the group’s product portfolio expand to include battery charging equipment, says sales and marketing director, Walt Koloska.

TRIB Appoints Associate Director

The Tire Retread Information Bureau (TRIB) has announced David Kolman as its new associate director.

Based in California, the TRIB is associated with the recycling of tyres through repair and retreading. Mr Kolman will operate from Baltimore, giving the bureau its first office on the East Coast and adding to its existing group of over 400 members in 28 countries worldwide.

Sumitomo Boost Falken Production

Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd., will increase production of Falken Tyres, Mordern Tire Dealer has reported. The company is “increasing capacity in all of our key areas,” said Richard Smallwood, Falken’s vice president of sales and marketing. Mr Smallwood continued by describing the scale of the increase in terms of units shipped, “this year we’ll be triple what we were in 1999. We have a number of large dealers who 100 per cent over last year.”

In the same interview Mr Smallwood also revealed that Sears Roebuck & Co., is again carrying Falken tyres. “Sears is a good representative of the brand,” said Mr Smallwood. “They do a good job selling our tyres and don’t create any conflict with our dealers.”

Oliver Rubber to Retread US Postal Service

Cooper Tire and Rubber Company and its subsidiary company, Oliver Rubber won a 10-year contract to retread US Postal Service tyres across the United States. Oliver Rubber produces and distributes tread rubber and retreading systems through a large network of licensed dealers. The company plans to use this network exclusively in order to service the 208,000 vehicles that the Postal Service maintains. 142,00 of these vehicles are considered long-life vehicles, which will undoubtedly provide additional retread opportunities for the company.

“The Postal Service speculates that they are currently using retreads on 20 percent of their fleet; however, they want to increase that number to 70 percent,” said Phil Boarts, Oliver director of retread sales and marketing.

“While the size of this whole project seems to be growing daily, we are making good progress in learning what we need to know about the current Postal Service operations,” continued Boarts.

The company plans to use precure and mold-cure technologies. Mold-cure technology will be employed on the majority of long-life vehicles and will, according to the company, “allow for improved ride characteristics.”

Further Appointments At Cooper

Cooper Tire & Rubber’s strategic realignment has resulted in two Vice Presidential sales and marketing appointments. Carl A. Casalbore has been made Vice President, Marketing and Retail Sales for the North American Tire Division. He joined Cooper in 1999 as a director of sales, after 20 years’ service with a competitor and his most recent post was that of VP, retail sales and high performance tyre development. The second appointment is that of Phillip D. Caris, as Vice President Sales & Marketing for the North American Tire Division. His 21-year Cooper career includes several sales and marketing roles, latterly as VP, marketing. Both appointments are effective from 1st May.
