Sailun has expanded its winter tyre size range, adding 15 more fitments in total for the studdable Ice Blazer WST1 winter tyre and the studless Ice Blazer WSL2 winter tyre. According to the company, new sizes are available across both patterns and cover the 15, 16, 17 and 18-inch options and will be released from production in April and May 2012.
Tyre maker Sailun reports its brand was successfully represented at the inaugural Pneus Expo show, which was recently held in France. The company’s passenger car tyre range was displayed on the stand of distributor Districash. “We have had a large number of high quality enquiries regarding Sailun tyres,” observed Districash managing director Jean-Philippe Moyet. “We have had a great start to our new trading relationship and fully expect to exceed our 2012 volume predictions. Demand is high for both Sailun summer and Sailun winter passenger car tyres.”
Chinese tyre manufacturer Sailun is planning to invest over US$100 million in a Vietnam subsidiary, according to online media reports. Yicai.com quoted an official filing as saying the auxiliary company will produce “tyres and other rubber products.”
Roughly a month ago Sailun’s corporate headquarters embarked on an initial public offering (IPO) of A shares, which is said to have raised around 1 billion yuan at the stock exchange. 98 million shares have been sold at around US$1 each, meaning the company now has access to three-digit millions for capital expenditure.
The Imported Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (ITMA) has launched a new website for its members. Not only does the new site have a much improved visual design, reflecting the association’s recent decision to develop a more two-directional communications strategy, but it has also been structured to be a resource for members.
Qingdao, China-based tyre manufacturer Sailun Co., Ltd., has appointed Martin West as managing director of its new Sailun Tyres (Europe) subsidiary. West previously held a number of senior roles with Goodyear, Lassa and most recently Infinity. Tyres & Accessories understands that the new European team, which will be based in the UK, currently consists of two people including the recent appointment of a back office manager that brings with him logistics experience at Goodyear Dunlop. According to a statement released by Sailun Europe, the recent moves follow the firm’s decision to begin “strategically focussing to further develop their presence in the European market.”
Deldo reported having a good Autopromotec with a lot of international visitors to their stand. “Our Italian team were kept extremely busy dealing with enquiries from perspective new and existing customers,” said the company’s marketing manager, Rutger Veerman.
“Up to now this year for Deldo has not seen the dramatic sales decline that was predicted by many due to weakening of the global economy,” continued Veerman. “In fact, our tyre sales have been reasonably good and there is even a slight improvement over the first months of the previous year. So, we would have to say that we are reasonably satisfied compared to what is happening with the automotive market generally. One obvious result of the international fiscal situation is the increasing demand for budget tyres.”
In addition to its premium labels, Deldo offers an attractive package of private brands Minerva and Fortuna and exclusive labels Wanli, Roadstone, Sailun and Rockstone. Each tyre program presents its own specific characteristics and size range which equates to total sales of over 3 million budget tyres annually. With a large sourcing network, daily communication with its many partners and the continuous development of its product portfolio Deldo holds a unique position in the European market. “Important assets for an independent wholesaler are client oriented service, continuous stock and supply, attractive pricing and just-in-time distribution,” said Veerman.
When Tyres & Accessories recently spoke to TRIB managing director Harvey Brodsky, he singled out Sailun as a Chinese manufacturer of new tyres that has in recent times paid close attention to product quality. “You will hear more from them,” stated Brodsky. One place we will hear more from them is through the Belgian based wholesaler Deldo.
TRIB, the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau, continues to become ever more international. The latest member to join the organisation is China’s Sailun Company, Ltd. The addition of Sailun brings TRIB’s membership to nearly 500 members in 49 countries.
“TRIB continues to grow internationally as more and more companies in the new tyre and retread industries throughout the world realise that TRIB is the only international retread industry association representing new tyre manufacturers, retreaders and tyre repair companies,” said Harvey Brodsky, TRIB’s managing director.
