Tyre Shipments to Increase ‘Slightly’ in 2007: RMA

(Akron/Tire Review) The Rubber Manufacturers Association (RMA) expects tyre shipments this year to “increase slightly” compared to 2006. Limited growth in the replacement tyre market will be offset by decreases in the OE markets, the RMA stated. In 2007, the replacement tyre markets will show an increase of 1.4 per cent, with OE markets declining 3.8 per cent.

“Overall, combined OE and replacement shipments for 2007 auto and truck categories are anticipated to increase by just over one million units to approximately 307 million total shipments,” according to the RMA’s Tire Market Analysis Committee. New Goodyear Machinery Commences Production Ahead of Schedule

Goodyear Dunlop Tyres UK Limited has announced that new machinery, designed to improve the productivity and efficiency at their famous Bushbury, Wolverhampton plant, has commenced production ahead of schedule today. On 8 December Goodyear Dunlop announced the investment in new compounding equipment. After an intensive three months of teamwork, the new machinery, known in the industry as a ‘Banbury’ mixer, was unveiled today.

The announcement of the multi-million pound investment in this new machinery gave the team at Wolverhampton the challenge of installation, training and re-engineering to commence its use before the end of March.

Two Further Goodyear Appointments

On the same day that Goodyear Tire & Rubber announced the appointment of a new company president came the news of two further appointments. Darren Wells has been appointed senior vice president of finance and strategy for the company as of March 14. Wells, 41, previously served as Goodyear’s senior vice president, business development & treasurer.

With the announced appointment of Chief Financial Officer Richard J. Kramer to run the North American Tire Business as its president, Wells assumes Kramer’s former responsibility for the company’s overall strategy development. In addition, Wells retains his finance responsibilities, which include treasury, investor relations, business development and tax.

Goodyear Names Richard Kramer President of North American Tire

The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company announced on March 14 that Richard J. Kramer has been appointed president of the company’s North American Tire unit, effective immediately. Kramer succeeds Jonathan D. Rich, 51, who is leaving Goodyear to pursue other leadership options. Currently executive vice president and chief financial officer for Goodyear, Kramer, 43, also will continue as CFO until the company names a replacement.

Kramer joined Goodyear in March of 2000 and was elected an officer of the company as vice president, corporate finance. He became vice president of finance for the North American Tire business in July of 2002 and was promoted to senior vice president, strategic planning and restructuring in August of 2003. In May of 2004 Kramer became chief financial officer.

Goodyear Proxy: Top Execs Got $31 Million

(Akron/Tire Review) The company’s climbing stock prices helped boost compensation packages for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.’s five top executives to some $31.3 million. The compensation package amounts was revealed in Goodyear’s proxy statement, filed last week with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Hankook Prices on the Rise

Hankook Tire America is raising prices by up to 7 per cent on its entire range of passenger, high performance, and light commercial tyres. The increases will take effect April 1st, 2007.

The exact amount will vary depending on product line and/or size. The company said the price increases reflect rising costs in raw materials, particularly petroleum products and natural rubber, as well as higher costs in transportation and general operating expenses.

Net Income Up for Sumitomo Rubber

Japan’s Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd has announced its consolidated financial results for the 2006 year. For the twelve months ending December 31, 2006 the company’s net sales came to 534,086 million yen (£2.34 billion), up 4.1 per cent on 2005’s results. The company’s operating income was 36,789 million yen (£161.2 million), substantially lower than in 2005, but net income, taking income taxes and extraordinary profit and loss into account, increased by 7.6 per cent during 2006, up to 27,585 million yen (£120.1 million).

Reifen Tyre Show for China

REIFEN Essen, arguably the world’s leading tyre industry fair, is heading for China. Between November 14 and 16, 2007, the first Reifen China, 1st Asian Essen Tire Show, will open its doors to the international trade public. Held at the Shanghai New International Exhibition Center, the project is a joint venture between Messe Essen GmbH and the Chinese company China United Rubber (Group) Company (CURC).

Strong Pirelli Q4 Results but No Dividend Expected

Pirelli & C. SpA operating results, due Monday March 12, are expected to rise, supported by the strong performance of its tyre operations in the fourth quarter. Additionally, according to analysts, it is also anticipated that the company will not pay a dividend after its 2.1 billion euro third-quarter write-down on its stake in Telecom Italia SpA.
