The amount Cheng Shin Rubber will invest in its new Indonesian plant appears to be much higher than previously announced. Tamotsu Sakuramoto will swap his European responsibilities for Japan-based roles as of 1 January 2014, reports Toyo Tire & Rubber. Sakuramoto will be replaced as general manager of Toyo Tire & Rubber’s Europe business unit by Takashi Shimizu, who is currently general manager of Toyo’s Tire Planning division and Tire Administration department; Shimizu will continue in these roles alongside his new position.
On 2 December, the directors of The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company have announced a quarterly dividend of 73.44 cents per share of mandatory convertible preferred stock. According to the company, the dividend is payable 1 January 2014, to shareholders of record on 13 December 2013. The payout represents an annual rate of $2.9375 per share.
Louise Thompson, protagonist in the scripted reality show ‘Made in Chelsea’, was recently recruited by Volvo for an event even more gripping than the E4 series. Volvo Car UK invited her to Tamworth Snowdome to demonstrate the effectiveness of winter tyres for driving in snow. There Thompson was confronted by a pair of Volvo V40 D2 hatchbacks, identical save for the fitment of winter tyres on one and standard summer tyres on the other. Thompson’s challenge was to drive each car up the Tamworth Snowdome’s ski slope to the summit. The results were as expected.
Dunlop has helped Oak Racing to claim the 2013 LMP2 World Endurance Championship (WEC), and G-Drive Racing to a race victory at the 6 Hours of Bahrain, the final round of the 2013 series. Chinese tyre firm Techking has announced it is released an 11R22.5 Super DM tyre designed for mixed road service. According to the company, the groove width has been increased and as a result stones will be much more easily pushed out. Furthermore, broader tread and thicker under-groove rubber have been added in order to ensure the “good performance on rough terrain” as well as prolonging mileage.
Russian government-owned oil company Rosneft and state corporation Rostec (Russian Technologies) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Pirelli. Under the MoU, signed on 26 November, the three parties agree to the joint research and development of materials to be used in tyre manufacture.
On 26 November, Toyo Tire & Rubber entered into a plea agreement with the United States Department of Justice and agreed to pay a US$120 million fine based on charges that the company violated US anti-trust laws in connection with sales of automotive anti-vibration rubber products and constant-velocity-joint boot products. The Japanese company says it decided to enter into the plea agreement “after careful consideration of the applicable laws, and the results of the findings from the investigation.”

The new AME 2014 catalogue purportedly showcases the company’s expanded range of tyre and wheel service products used around the world by retail, commercial and OTR tyre dealers.
