New Earthmover Treads from Kraiburg

Retreading specialist Kraiburg Austria will showcase its extensive product and service range on its exhibition stand at the Reifen 2006 exhibition in Essen. Following the motto “Always the right tread”, Europe’s no. 1 producer will present a representative cross-section of its full range at the show. This will include treads from the established Kraiburg range for all applications, as well as the new premium Kraiburg plus range. The Austrians also have a few specialised products in the range, such as retreaded rally, karting and lawn tyres.

Bandag Introduces New Equipment

(Australian Tyre Dealer) Bandag has just completed a 12 month testing program with new buffer and extruder machines that is reported to have led to improvements in processing, tyre preparation and tread adhesion, together with a reduction in manufacturing costs. Designed and built by Bandag Inc. in the United States, the key feature of the 8400 Buffer is that every tyre is buffed perfectly every time. Bandag National Marketing and Sales Manager, Greg Nielsen, said this was achieved by initially programming the exact buffing specifications into the 8400 for every tyre that is produced.

Tyrexpo Africa “75 Per Cent Sold Out”

Response to Tyrexpo Africa 2006 has surpassed all expectations and the show is now 75 per cent sold out. The enthusiasm and support received by both national and international exhibitors have far exceeded the organisers’ expectations. With five months still to go 30 per cent of exhibitors originate from South Africa and the sub African continent whilst 70 per cent are from overseas. Although many of these companies hail from Europe, there will be exhibitors from North and South America, Asia and the Far East at Tyrexpo Africa.

Nokian Tyres Renewed its Truck Tyre Range

In 2005 the production of all Nokian-branded truck tyres was transferred to the Bridgestone plant in Bilbao, Spain, which features top-notch production technology in the field. The tyre carcasses and moulds of the whole product portfolio have been redesigned. The new carcass clearly enhances driving properties and mileage, while the sturdy bead area makes the tyre sit well on the rim and improves driving qualities. In addition, the longer useful life of the tyre carcass and the strong rubber used in tread grooves clearly enhance retreading options, writes Nokian in a press release. All Nokian truck tyres feature rubber compounds suitable for Nordic conditions, which provide good grip on slippery roads and durability on rough road surfaces. The new Nokian NTR-861 and Nokian NTR-844 for trucks and buses round off the range and offer a safe and durable solution for year-round use. These winter-rated M+S tyres can be mounted on the vehicle all year round.

“Marangoni Village” At Reifen 2006

Italian Industrial Group, Marangoni, will promote its activities in Essen this year on a 500 square metre stand concept, which the company calls “Marangoni Village.” Marangoni recently took steps to streamline its organisation. The company continues to produce passenger car tyres in a factory near Rome. As far as the retreading business is concerned, many experts see Marangoni as the leading company in respect to technological developments and innovation. The group runs factories in Italy, Germany (Ellerbrock), USA and Brazil. Last year group turnover exceeded 300 million euros.

Ryder Extends Contract With Bridgestone and Truck Point

Bridgestone and Ryder have announced a further extension to their partnership. This involves a contract extension well into 2007. Under the arrangement, Bridgestone UK will supply replacement and retread truck tyres and tyre services though its national Truck Point service network.

Greg Ward, Bridgestone UK Commercial director, said: “Our long-term relationship with Ryder and our ability to offer a comprehensive service package of original equipment, replacement and retreaded tyres as well as value-added services are key to this new agreement. We are delighted that our partnership with Ryder has been extended again.”

Aeolus Industrial Tyres Expands Availability in Europe

Chinese brand Aeolus is set to introduce a range of low-loader tyres in the Netherlands and across Europe. This news represents Aeolus’ response to the ever-increasing demand for these tyres from European companies in the transport business. The expansion of this line again signifies the increasing Chinese presence in the European tyre market. Aeolus has selected Heuver Banden of Den Ham to distribute these tyres in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Denmark and France. Kirkby Tyres sells Aeolus products in the UK.

Rösler Group to Become More International

The German Rösler group is aiming to further expand its international operations. The appointment of Klaus Mühlbäck (33) will see the Kraiburg veteran take responsibility for the internationalisation of the company’s business. In his new position he will promoting the Schelkmann brand that is owned by the German group. Currently the Rösler group only has three licensees in Europe for this OTR pre-cure retreading system, one of which is based in the UK. The company’s intention is to expand the number of licensees globally. Before he took on his new position Mühlbäck (33) spent 10 years working for Kraiburg Austria.

Canadian GCR Retread Plants Get Quality Standards Certification

(Akron/Tire Review) Bridgestone/Firestone Canada’s GCR Tire Centers has earned ISO 9001:2000 certifications for five of its six medium truck retread plants. The company’s retreading facilities in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia; Moncton, New Brunswick; Sudbury, Ontario; Paradise, Newfoundland; and Farnham, Quebec, achieved the requirements of the international quality management system. The sixth – located in Quebec City, Quebec – is expected to receive its certification later this year. “We are proud of the dedication demonstrated by all of our plant personnel during the entire implementation process,” said Marcel Leclair, the company’s business manager for retread operations. “We are delighted to be able to offer our customers this added quality assurance.”

Nokian Sales and Profits Increase

At 686.5 million euros, Nokian Tyres’ net sales in 2005 were 13.8 per cent higher than 2004’s figure of 603.3 million euros. The operating profit was virtually static at 115.8 million euros (115.6 m) and the net result was up over 11 per cent to 82.2 million euros (73.8 m). Nokian said that growth in the European passenger car tyre market was slower than expected, with sales of winter tyres in the Nordic countries and Eastern Europe beginning exceptionally late, thus shortening the sales season. The strongest growth was experienced in Russia, Eastern Europe and North America, with sales of new cars growing significantly in Russia.

Customers Discover OTR Tyre Retreading

Not everything that’s bad for the OTR end consumer is automatically bad for the retreaders of these tyres, too. On the contrary, sometimes it could even help them increase their sales figures substantially. In earlier years tyres for earthmovers have literally been driven run-through. Today, consumers “somehow try to keep them rolling” for as long as possible admitting that they have paid good money for a good product. As a consequence, the Rösler group – market leader in Europe in this OTR niche – has been able to increase its annual number of retreads by about 30 per cent. On the one hand this growth has been induced by the general market expansion, on the other hand sales figures have been triggered by increasingly urgent demand on the part of the customers that were unable to get hold of any new OTR tyres whatsoever.
