Bridgestone Launches European Bandag Website

Bridgestone has introduced a new Bandag website highlighting its retread product portfolio for truck and bus fleets in Europe. According to the tyre maker, the www.bandag.eu site carries a ‘stronger message’ for end users, with more qualitative retread and product information, including the latest document downloads. The structure is built around Bandag’s Smart Choice marketing concept that provides an explanation as to why Bandag retreads are the most reliable, economical, natural and dependable retread choice on the tyre market.

Dunlop Aircraft Tyres Welcomes Duke to Centenary Celebrations

Birmingham-based Dunlop Aircraft Tyres had a royal visitor today (7 June) when the company welcomed HRH The Duke of York to its head office and manufacturing site in Erdington. The company is celebrating its centenary this year. Prince Andrew toured the company’s offices, factory and testing facility, where new products are being developed for aircraft including the Embraer E-Jets family, the Airbus A320, the Eurofighter and Airbus Military A400M transport aircraft.

Reifen 2010 Reports Record Exhibitor Numbers

As Reifen 2010 draws to a close, organising company Messe Essen is hailing the event as a great success after the company announced that provisional results for the 26th Reifen event show a record 600 exhibitors from 42 countries and over 18,000 trade visitors attended the tyre, retread and vulcanisation related expo. With guests from 127 countries, the fair also set a record also with regard to the internationality of the visitors.

60 per cent of Reifen 2010 visitors travelled to Essen from abroad. International visitors came primarily from Europe (75 per cent), followed by Asia, Africa, America and Australia. 88 per cent of the total visitors are said to have been decision-takers. And the statistics say the show was good for business too, with a third of the visitors having already ordered something and nearly half of the visitors having prepared deals which they want to complete after the fair.

Reports: Michelin to Relocate, Expand China Plant

International News

Michelin is seeking Chinese government approval to relocate its Shenyang plant to a larger site to allow for capacity expansion, according to a China Daily report. "We have to relocate the Shenyang factory for a really big capacity expansion in both truck and bus tyres as well as passenger car tyres, considering the growing demand in China's automobile market," Michelin managing general partner Michel Rollier is quoted as saying.

Reifen – Center Hofdmann Celebrates 25 Years

Wittmund, Germany based Reifen – Center Hofdmann celebrated its 25th anniversary on 24 April 2010. The company, which Brazil-based retreading materials supplier Vipal Europe described as “a long term customer,” recently opened a new production hall focussing on the repair and retreading of truck, agricultural and earthmover tyres. This production line was established following the transfer and centralisation of the company’s equipment from its previous premises. In addition, since April, the company has also stocked retreading materials in the new production hall.

Goodyear Adding Retreading Capacity to Wittlich, Germany Plant

In order to address increasing European market demand for passenger car and truck tyres, the Goodyear Dunlop group is increasing production volume at its facility in Wittlich, Germany. To facilitate a higher volume the plant is being expanded and an additional 90 jobs will be created at Wittlich by September 2010.

PC-Soft Offers fa/r Sighted Retreading Software

German software house PC-Soft has announced plans to show its fa/r software designed for managing retreading processes at June’s Reifen 2010 show. According to the company, PC-Soft designed the comprehensive fa/r system solution specifically for the requirements of the retread industry.

“Our customers benefit from the practical illustration of their processes (e.g. buffing, building) and the seamless integration of production, storage and management, automatic documentation and therefore the optimization of the whole process. Our focus is securing your productivity and flexible response capability to deliver as soon as possible and at optimum production,” company representatives commented in their promotional literature.

Dunlop Aircraft Tyres Gears Up for Centenary Celebrations

As part of its centenary celebrations, Dunlop Aircraft Tyres has commissioned the publication of a new book and commemorative film that tell the story of the company’s past and present and outline its future direction. Both will be launched at a gala event held to coincide with the opening of the Farnborough International Air Show on July 19. The evening event at the Wapping Project is anticipated to bring together many of the company’s customers, suppliers and senior figures from the aviation sector.

Best Tyres Joins ContiNetwork

Best Tyres has become a partner in Continental Tyres’ national dealer network, ContiNetwork. Best Tyres operates its ContiNetwork partnership from the company’s well-equipped depot in Sandyford, Stoke-on-Trent, which is completely focussed on the commercial vehicle sector. The family-run business also has a retail depot at nearby Cobridge, which supplies tyres for cars and vans.

Paul Byrne, who set up Best Tyres in 2003, says he is delighted to be representing Continental Tyres in the area. “Continental has made a considerable investment in their tyre technology in recent years resulting in the launch of some excellent new products during 2009. They are clearly making their presence felt in the commercial vehicle sector and we are pleased to be contributing to that success.

Label Maker Joins TRIB

Avery Dennison, a company that pioneered the first self-adhesive labels and stamps in the US, has joined the Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB). According to an official release from the bureau, published on 29 April, Avery Dennison is a recognized industry leader that develops “innovative identification and decorative solutions for businesses and consumers worldwide.”

Cleansing Service Group Choose Big D Tyres from Bandvulc

Waste management specialist Cleansing Service Group (CSG), one of the UK waste industry’s fastest growing companies, has been fitting Bandvulc tyres to its fleet “for some months.” CSG engineering manager Mick Arnold commented: “We have been fitting Bandvulc tyres to a number of our vehicles and the ‘BIG D’ tyre is proving to be a good choice, particularly when used on vehicles going to landfill sites. An important bonus is the environmental benefit by fitting retreads rather than newly manufactured tyres.”

Michelin to Open First Retread Factory in Oman

Michelin is planning to open “the first retread factory of importance opened in the Arabian Gulf, outside of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia” in Oman. The truck tyre retread plant is expect to produce over 10,000 retreads a year combining “Michelin know-how and competent expert hands.” According to AMEInfo, the project is being enacted in partnership with Moshin Haider Darwish, Muscat, Sultanate of Oman; Central Trading Company, Dubai, United Arab Emirates; and Central Motors and Equipment, Abu Dhabi and United Arab Emirates.

Retreaders, Associations Kill Anti-Retread Bill

TIA reports that a coalition of members, other associations and local retreaders were able to defeat pending legislation in Georgia that would have effectively outlawed retreads on government-owned safety vehicles, says Tire Review. Along with TRIB and the RMA, the group worked to amend a House-passed bill that contained the anti-retread provision. The amendment was made in the Senate version of the bill, which was then passed by the Georgia House.

Dawsonrentals Renews Bridgestone Tyre Contract

Dawsonrentals has extended its tyre supply agreement with Bridgestone UK Ltd for a further 3 years until 2013. Bridgestone began supplying to Dawsonrentals in 2005 and the renewal is said to represent “a major success for Bridgestone UK with the UK’s leading rental company.”

Dawsonrentals will continue to fit Bridgestone new tyres on the steer axles and “Bulldog” retreads tyres on the drive and trailer axles of its 10,000 vehicles and trailers. From April 2010, Dawsonrentals will also utilise the extended Bulldog retread line up which now includes the Firestone FD600 and TSP3000 patterns.
