After 10 years of collaboration, Tructyre has acknowledged Bandvulc’s position as a “strategic partner” in its business.
In 2014 Tructyre embarked on an aggressive three-year business plan following on from their acquisition of P K Commercial Tyres in 2012. According to Tructyre, when the plan was instigated it was key that their strategic partners were on board. With 10 years of partnership behind them, Tructyre reports that “the relationship has flourished even further in the last three years with proactive initiatives in distribution, product (launch of Tructyre’s Re-Trak range), tyre management and service.”
Continental has introduced a new 19.5” fitment for its urban bus tyre, the Conti Urban HA3, part of its third-generation commercial vehicle tyre range. Tyres for this application are placed under higher stress in the inner-city public transport segment than in any other area of application, Conti states.
It is no secret that Continental and Bandvulc have been working together for decades. So it was also no surprise to learn that the subject of a possible takeover arose as long as 12 years ago. However, the round of talks that resulted in the sale agreement were instigated by Bandvulc managing director Patrick O’Connell during a meeting at the CV show in 2013. In the two or so years that followed the two firms say they grew together before a final deal was completed in July 2016.
Kraiburg Austria has subjected seven more winter patterns to a 3PMSF test in order to enhance the competitiveness of truck retreads. Now the “3PMSF” (Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake) tyre symbol is linked under ECE-109 R Annex 10 to retreads, this measurement is said to say “far more than the classic “M+S” based on classifications devised by the manufacturers” about a retread’s winter performance.
The Commercial Vehicle Show will see The Tyre Equipment Company (TEC) return to the NEC in Birmingham in order to showcase a selection of commercial tyre changing tools and equipment from Ken-Tool, as well as other products from the TEC range between 25 and 27 April 2017.
Prices for rubber retreading materials sold by Marangoni’s Retreading Systems division will increase by four to eight per cent, depending on product category, in all European markets invoiced in euros. Prices will also rise in non-euro countries such as the UK, however at a different rate. The new price structure will be implemented this month.
Mobile device users can now access Goodyear’s web-based eCasing commercial vehicle tyre retreading management system. A new app, eCasing Mobile, is being progressively introduced throughout Europe and supports all Goodyear retread business options. Available in Android and iOS versions, the app is a further enhancement of Goodyear’s eBusiness B2B platform, myway. While accreditation from Goodyear is required to use the free app, all existing eCasing users automatically receive immediate access.
Brazilian retreading specialist Vipal Rubber has introduced a new version of its DV-RT4 line, and states that the pre-cured tread includes improvements stemming from the company’s ongoing efforts towards greater efficiency and profitability for end users. As a result of the changes made to the DV-RT4 tread, it is now also recommended for regional use as well as highway transport.
Marangoni Retreading Systems has expanded its business in Spain through a new partnership with regional retreader Recauchutados Fidel. The company, which has been in the business since 1982 and operates a retreading plant and three dealers in Salamanca province, has selected Marangoni products and technology for its customers.
Marangoni Retreading Systems is now working with two new retreaders and dealers in Turkey, Basoglu and Dirkap.
Magna Tyres Group has acquired OBO Tyres, the largest tyre retreader in the Netherlands. Founded in 1959, the company has specialized in producing retreaded tyres for the agricultural and OTR market and additional tyre repair services. Recently the company received exclusive distribution rights of the Magna agricultural, and MTP OTR tyres, which allowed the company to offer qualitative and cost effective new tyre solutions to the Benelux tyre market.
Harvey Brodsky has handed over day-to-day leadership of the Retread Tire Association (RTA) to Jeffry Parks. He shares that the difficult decision to step down as managing director of the RTA was taken due to health issues following an accident, however he will remain actively involved with the association and the retreading industry.
Last week, Michelin’s Pneu Laurent plant in Oranienburg, Germany – the company’s smallest retreading facility in Europe – produced its last retreaded truck tyre. Now the remaining 55-strong plant workforce (Michelin employed 180 people at the Pneu Laurent site a year ago) are engaged with clearing up and disassembling the most important production equipment in preparation for its installation in other Michelin plants.
Michelin Tyre has been contracted as the exclusive supplier of retreaded tyres to Direct Tyre Management (DTM), and under a four-year agreement will supply around 20,000 truck brand tyres per annum. The Encore-brand tyres will be retreaded in Michelin’s Stoke-on-Trent factory.
