Apollo Tyres has announced the introduction of the Vredestein brand in India. Four ranges from the Dutch tyre maker will initially be available there – the Ultrac Sessanta, Ultrac SUV Sessanta, Ultrac Cento and Sportrac. These will be sold in a range of sizes for 15 to 20-inch rim diameters. The Vredestein range sold in India will complement the existing Apollo passenger car range, Apollo Tyres states.

Bridgestone has expanded its VSNT (V-Steel N-Traction) off-road tyre line-up with the introduction of a four-star rated version, the 35/65R33 VSNT 4*. The tyre has been specifically developed for underground haulage operations by today’s heavier shuttle trucks. The four-star rating enables the tyre to better accommodate the higher load capacity per air volume required by smaller tyre sizes used due to the constraints of tunnel dimensions.
Sailun has announced the appointment of Thomas (WookChoon) Jang as the latest tyre developer to join its European head office team in Birmingham. Jang will specialise in the development of products for the Sailun passenger car and light commercial vehicle tyre range.
Russian government-owned oil company Rosneft and state corporation Rostec (Russian Technologies) have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Pirelli. Three French companies – Michelin, Axens and IFP Energies nouvelles (IFPEN) – have announced the launch of a plant chemistry research partnership that aims to develop and bring to market a process for producing bio-sourced butadiene, or bio-butadiene. The partnership goes under the name ‘BioButterfly’ and in addition to developing an innovative bio-butadiene production process, the three partners are also committed to laying the groundwork for a future bio-sourced synthetic rubber industry in France.
A new Mesnac facility being set up in the US will aid the company in its goal of developing equipment, processes and systems that are more closely aligned to the needs of its customers in North and Latin America. The Chinese tyre and rubber industry supplier is locating this new Research and TechnicalCenter in Akron, Ohio and says the facility will be an extension of its recently-established Research Institute in Qingdao. The company already runs a similar centre in Slovakia to support its European customer base.
