News from the world’s largest tyre industry show, Reifen 2012, at Messe Essen, Germany
Europe’s largest tyre exhibition, Reifen 2012 has opened today with the show’s organiser, Messe Essen, claiming record numbers of exhibitors – 653 to be precise. Messe Essen also said that the show represents a new level of internationality, with two-thirds of exhibitors attending the show from 44 countries outside Germany. The show, situated in the West German city of Essen, runs until Friday 8 June.
Toyo Tires is giving three new tyres their global premiere at Reifen 2012. Senior development personnel from the company’s Toyo Technical Centre in Itami, Japan are attending to introduce the products and answer questions.
Continental AG is investing in a hot retreading production plant in Western Europe, the company has announced. A statement explained that this decision aims to underline the “great importance of retreading business for Continental” and adds weight to its ContiLifeCycle concept. No details of the amount of investment have been released. The location of the new production site will be announced at a later date.
The German Hämmerling Group has announced that it will be supplying a newly produced trailer tyre called Easy Rider to Krone. In turn the well known trailer manufacturer will exclusively use the tyres on its range of products as original equipment fitments. Furthermore the deal, which was signed recently, sees Hämmerling take over the whole national and international aftersales business associated with these products.
In total Lassa will be showcasing 18 different types of its tyres at the Essen show next week. Phenoma, the latest in Lassa’s ultra high performance summer tyre line up, will be in the spotlight at Lassa’s booth (3-225). Available in all Lassa’s export markets and in 11 popular sizes ranging from 16 to 18 inches in diameter, Phenoma is aimed at the sport and prestige segment. According to the company it has a 2.9m shorter braking distance, 5 per cent better wet handling and 2 per cent better dry handling than its competitors.
Goodyear has followed its announcement that it will exhibit AA-labelled concept passenger car tyres at Reifen 2012 with the news that its Marathon LHT II long haul trailer tyre has achieved an A grade in fuel economy. The manufacturer says that fitting a combination of its Marathon LHS II + steer tyres, LHD II + drive tyres and LHT II trailer tyres to a typical five-axle 40 tonne truck could equip the vehicle with a fuel-saving combination of six A-grade, two B-grade and four C-grade tyres, depending on tyre size. The tyres also score well in the wet grip and noise emissions categories.
Goodyear Dunlop has announced plans to present its first concept passenger car tyres to achieve A-grades in both rolling resistance and wet grip on the new EU tyre label. The two concept tyres, the Goodyear EfficientGrip AA edition and the Dunlop Sport BluResponse AA will be on display at Reifen 2012 on the Goodyear Dunlop stand (3-117) at next week’s Essen show. The concept tyres will not be available for sale.
Nankang will unveil its new logo from Hall Three, Stand 105 at Reifen 2012 in Essen next week.. It consists of the logo typeface of 'Nankang' and the brand promise of 'Free Your Way'. Nankang Tyre's corporate logo has been used for over two decades. Facing the increasingly competitive global marketplace, the company says it is charging forward with a new Corporate Identity System (CIS). The new CIS will serve as critical guidelines for global brand management, and more importantly as the foundation to fresh brand image of Nankang.

Momo, a well known Italian automotive brand most famous for its wheels, has announced that it is launching a tyre range in partnership with Univergomma S.p.a. at next week’s Reifen exhibition in Essen, Germany.
In addition to three new designs of pre-cured treads, Brazilian retreading materials manufacturer has confirmed that it will display its ECO line of precured treads. The company, which has three distribution centres in Europe, says the ECO treads provide decreased fuel consumption and a increased longevity.
With hot weather continuing to prevail across the UK, TyreSafe is pre-empting the arrival of millions of drivers on the roads in the coming Spring Bank Holiday weekend – extended by the presence of the Queen’s Jubilee celebration on 5 June. Just over a week before the Reifen Essen exhibition kicks off, organisers Messe Essen have launched an interactive floor plan to help visitors with their final planning for the event. At the same time Messe Essen recommended online prior registration in order to save waiting times at the exhibition hall itself.
Sumitomo Rubber Industries, Ltd’s Falken Tyre Europe subsidiary is exhibiting five new tyre products in Essen this year. The company has also given details of its stand. According to the tyre manufacturer, the firm is constructing an exhibit based on the company’s “Move to the next level” theme for June’s Reifen 2012 in Essen, Germany from 5 – 8 June.
Steinbichler Optotechnik GmbH from Neubeuern has announced plans to present new shearography innovations at its Reifen show stand (4-321). Aimed at retreading plants with small production quantities, test laboratories and tyre development units, the Intact V20 made by Steinbichler is said to offer a multitude of different possible uses, according to the company.
