Watts Industrie Reifen, the German subsidiary of Watts Tyre Group has announced the acquisition of Profix GmbH at the end of March. Current Profix director Volker Scholze will join Watts Industrie Reifen and manage operations from the tyre service and distribution business’s Zittau office. Profix manager Udo Rottke will also join Watts as tyre services manager responsible for the mobile fitting service across the country.
The German sales company for CGS Tyres, CGS Reifen Deutschland, has been awarded the highest rating in the supplier programme operated by tractor Manufacturer Fendt. The company was given an ‘A’ rating in all the categories evaluated, which include quality, logistics, service and environment.
“We are delighted to have gained the highest award, which our customer Fendt has conferred on us for several years in succession” commented Andrew Mabin, Marketing and Sales managing director at MITAS a.s./CGS Tyres.
Marangoni Retreading Systems, the Marangoni Group business unit operating in the retreading materials and technology sector, has announced the installation of the first “Ringbuilder 3000“ in Europe. This building machine was introduced by Marangoni Retreading Systems two years ago and is designed for large retreaders; the unit is able to produce at least 200 Ringtread retreads per eight hour shift while at the same time occupying a small floorspace. The RB 3000 allows a single fully automated machine to extrude the cushion gum directly onto the casing, fill the craters, apply and suitably roll the ring, thus creating a tyre ready to be vulcanised. Its high level of automation guarantees outstanding productivity, savings in labour and faster processing times. Initially developed solely for the American market, it has now made its European debut in response to the recent trend towards the significant growth of continental Europe’s larger retreaders.
Reifen China 2008 opened its doors in Shanghai today, with over 3000 visitors entering the city’s New International Expo Center for the show. The show’s organisers – Messe Essen, China United Rubber (Group) Company and concept partner Bundesverband Reifenhandel und Vulkanisieur-Handwerk (the German equivalent of the NTDA) – were all reportedly pleased with the 25 per cent increase in visitor numbers compared with the 2007 show. Over 110 companies from 16 countries are exhibiting their products and services at Reifen China covering 3500 square metres of floor space (31 per cent more than the 2007 show).
Harvey Brodsky, managing director of the US based Tire Retread & Repair Information Bureau (TRIB), will be a featured speaker at the Reifen China exhibition to be held in Shanghai, between December 4 and 6. Brodsky’s first presentation, titled ‘The Economic and Environmental Benefits The Retread Industry Can Offer in China’, will take place on December 4, and his second presentation, ‘The Importance of Being Ethical in Your Business Dealings with Truckers and Other Users of Your Retreads’, will take place on December 5.
“We are honoured to have been invited to make TRIB’s activities known to the Chinese retread industry and I am pleased to be able to represent TRIB members by making my two presentations.” said Brodsky.

Nexen Tyre, a company at the forefront of the Korean winter tyre market, believes that it has the overseas reputation not only for the company’s popular non-winter tyres, but also for its winter tyres.
The Korean company is attempting to penetrate Europe’s winter tyre market with its Euro-Win, Winguard, Winguard-SUV and Winguard 231 lines. The firm is also announcing for this season its brand new ultra-high performance winter tyre called the Winguard Sport, which, the company claims, “is ready to be the first runner of the premium UHP winter tyre both in the domestic and overseas tyre markets.”
Having launched the new Accura Mobile – a Nitrogen tyre inflation cart – at Reifen this year, PCL has noted the increasing popularity of the machine, which is now available on the British market. The firm states that demand for nitrogen tyre inflation is rising fast in the UK, and PCL has pre-empted its popularity with the affordable yet high performance machine.
The compact N2 cart is designed for tyre shops, workshops, car dealerships, and transport depots, boasting ease of use, operated with an industry standard bottle or direct from a nitrogen generator and can be preset for a standard inflation top up, or operated with an N2 function for a purge and fill cycle. The Accura can inflate six tyres simultaneously, running off a sealed lead acid battery or a direct mains line.
Sri Lanka’s only representative at Reifen 2008, Global Rubber Industries took the opportunity to display their range of solid tyres – branded The Performer – in Hall 3, Booth 327. The island nation is the world’s largest producer of solid rubber tyres, supplying 60% of the global need, and Global Rubber is the dominant manufacturer.
Reporting a successful show this year, the company is already making plans for the next Reifen in 2010, where they say they will be pursuing opportunities to increase their EU market share by exhibiting their premium line of Solid Tyres at the 2010 show. GlobeStar is so far established in 25 countries.
The South China Tire & Rubber Co. spent its time in Hall Six, Booth 300A promoting their “SUNNY” brand. The company aimed – with some success – to find new distributors in the European market.
Representatives of The South China Tire & Rubber Co. stated that the organisation has “identified cooperative intentions or even concluded transactions with some dealers in western, northern and eastern European market. Besides, we also availed ourselves of this opportunity to establish business relationship with dealers outside Europe and now we are discussing the further details.”
Representatives from Granutech-Saturn Systems report they experienced the highest level of traffic ever at their booth at the Reifen show in Essen, Germany, this past May. According to Mike Hinsey, Granutech’s International Vice President, the benefits from that event continue to make themselves evident.
Beijing based Best Choice International Trade Co. has a presence in more than a hundred countries, and in its 13 years of business has grown into a company with an annual turnover exceeding US$40 million. At the Reifen Essen show T&A met with BCIT’s European representative, Andro Yan.
“One of the major events for us at the Reifen show is promoting our new Sunew brand,” he commented. The Sunew line-up, manufactured by the Qingdao Rubber (Group) Co., Ltd and first released last year, has initially been made available as a UHP range; 29 sizes for rim diameters between 16 and 21-inch have to date been released. According to Mr. Yan, this line-up will soon be joined by 4×4 and winter tyre ranges, and BCIT is eager to increase the brand’s profile in this part of the world. At present the company is looking for European partners, in all regions, for the Sunew product. “An introduction date for the new brand is dependent on partners, but a 2008 launch is possible,” he says.
Participating for the seventh consecutive time at Reifen Essen, Dutch manufacturer Interstate Tire & Rubber Co. used the exhibition to introduce a new line of tyres; the Interstate SUV Sport GT, a full line of modern SUV tyres with unique tread pattern. The range boasts SUV tyres sized between 16-inch and 18-inch, including ISST noise technology for low noise and low rolling resistance. Also displayed was the new range of UHP tyres, the Interstate Sport IXT-1 in 19 and 20 inch and also the new sizes in the Interstate Winter IWT-2 line.
Elgitread, who exhibited its tread rubber manufacturing division in Hall 3, Booth 122 at Reifen 2008, has relisted Treadsdirect as a separate company on the National Stock Exchange of India (NSE).
The new company is categorised as An ELGI Associate, and will concentrate its energies on manufacturing tread rubber, bonding gum retreading and bus operations, while Elgitread – retaining the company name – will give more attention to retreading accessories, retreading machinery and manufacturing with reclaimed rubber. Treadsdirect is now the proprietor of 14 operational retreading units and possesses three manufacturing units.
American tyre service and recycling machinery manufacturers TSI/SSG (Tire Service Equipment and Saf-tee Siping & Grooving) has reported a busy and successful showing in all three key business segments at this year’s Reifen Exhibition. The company divides its output into siping machines, small tyre service machines (like manual tyre changers and bead seaters) and recycling machines (tyre cutters and wheel crushers).
Since 1998, when TSI/SSG first exhibited at Reifen, the company has seen a large increase in both interest and actual orders in the recycling portion of the business. Export Manager Arvid Vaaten believes that “more and more markets are getting ready to seriously deal with the ever increasing scrap tire problem.”
In its more than three decades of operation Triangle Tire has grown to become one of China’s top tyre manufacturers in terms of output. Annually the company produces, says Triangle, around 20 million units. Of this figure, radials account for as much as 16.5 million units, and the company claims to be the largest tyre manufacturer and exporter in China.
At the Reifen show sales manager Victor Wang spoke with Tyres & Accessories about numerous recent developments at Triangle Tire. Of particular significance, commented Mr. Wang, is a new product line introduced by the company. Called Diamond Back, the passenger car and SUV range is available in four distinct patterns, including the UHP TR968. Boasting some 20 sizes between 17 and 24-inches, the W and V speed rated range offers, says Mr. Wang, low rolling resistance, a high grip tread compound and rim protection flange on the sidewall.
