Reifen China 2011 opens

Reifen China 2011 opened its doors today to increased exhibitor numbers over the 2010 edition, with the exhibition's space records reportedly having been broken back in May. Exhibits appear to be mainly dominated by large and medium sized Chinese and Taiwan-based tyre manufacturers with the addition of relatively small tyremakers, wheel firms and equipment manufacturers also in attendance. Some well known names in attendance include: Hangzhou Zhongce Rubber Co., Ltd., Double Coin Holdings, Shandong Linglong, Cooper Chengshan Shangdong Co., Ltd., Nankang Rubber Tire Corp, Shandong Wanda Boto Tyre, Guizhou Tyre Co., Ltd and Shandong Hengfeng Rubber & Plastics Co., Ltd to name but a few.

CITExpo reports a positive show

The organiser of the China International Tire Expo, CITExpo for short, views this year’s tyre show in Shanghai positively. Reliable International Exhibition Services reports 7,190 visitors attended the ninth CITExpo, which was held at the Everbright Convention and Exhibition Center. Last year’s show attracted 7,400 visitors. Once again, around 60 per cent of visitors (4,160) came from China, and during the three show days in early September 3,030 international visitors from 103 countries registered. A total of 298 companies used CITExpo to present their products and services to the public, up from 290 the year before. Well-known exhibitors at this year’s show included Cooper Chengshan, Jinyu Tire Group/Evergreen, Guizhou Tyre, Techking Tires, Aufine Group, SD International, Van den Ban and the wheel producer Zhejiang Jingu; these companies occupied 22,000 square metres of floorspace in three almost completely booked out exhibition halls.

Will 10,000 attend Reifen China this year?

When this year’s Reifen China kicks off in November (22–24) alongside the RubberTech China event, the show’s organisers are expecting record attendance. After strong growth last year, this year’s event could see as many as 10,000 visitors pass through the doors of the Shanghai New International Expo Center (SNIEC) during the course of the exhibition, meaning the event is becoming a regular meeting place for those in sourcing from or selling to the Chinese tyre industry. When you consider that SNIEC’s modern infrastructure has nine halls with a total of 103,500 square metres of exhibition area as well as another 100,000 square metres of outdoor space, it is clear to see that there is plenty of room for growth.

While much attention has been focused on the amount of tyres being produced in China in general and the rapid growth of the most professional Chinese tyre manufacturers, the machinery companies that supply them have kept their similarly meteoric rise somewhat beneath the radar. But while the tyre mould and machinery making companies have managed to avoid the limelight so far, some market observers argue that their growing influence should not be ignored.

Tyre Shortage? Fujian Province Exported Over 32.85 million Tyres in 2010

While wholesalers importing Chinese tyre products into mature European markets such as the UK struggle to negotiate supply issues and brace themselves for another round of price increases, there are reports that tyre makers in one part of the People’s Republic are over-producing to the extent that they are actually stockpiling tyres.

Southeast China's Fujian province exported 32.85 million between January and November 2010, signalling a 27.6 per cent year-on-year increase in shipments, according to a report from the province's customs officials. The total value of the tyres sold is said to have amounted to US$460 million, a jump in value of 34.8 per cent over the corresponding period of 2009. The export price averaged $13.9 per unit, up 5.7 per cent from 2009.

One Year On – Effiplus Introduction Fairing Well

One year after Techking’s Effiplus passenger car radial was launched in at Reifen China 2009 in Shanghai, the company known for its OTR and latterly its truck tyres has news of further expansions in the range. While the Effiplus line up consisted of just 20 specification 12 months ago, today there are over 100, with a number of sub-specifications. Speaking in an interview at the end of 2010, Techking marketing and sales director James Wang brought us up to speed on the latest product developments – including the new second life truck tyre warranty – the company has to offer.

Reifen China 2010 Had 39% More Visitors

For the fourth time in its history, Reifen China welcomed floods of visitors through the doors of the Shanghai New International Expo Center on 25 November where over 100 exhibitors from some of the country's leading suppliers and traders were waiting to share details of the latest products and business developments. The headline news is that by the end of this year’s show on 27 November, Reifen China had attracted a total of 9356 trade visitors from 75 countries – an increase of over 39 per cent compared with the previous year (2009: 6,693).

Shaanxi Yanchang Considering PCR Plant

Heard of Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum (Group) Rubber Co., Ltd? We hadn’t either before last year’s Reifen China in Shanghai. However, after our brief introduction at last year’s show this year the company returned to the exhibition with another substantial stand in a similarly prime position. This time round company representatives brought with them news that despite being founded as recently as December 2008, it is already well on the well to producing 1 million truck tyres a year at its Xianyang truck tyre production plant. With the company's passenger car radial line due to break ground in 2013, this could be a production base to watch.

Suntrac Brand Makes its Debut, PCR Line to Follow

One brand Tyres & Accessories met for the first time in Shanghai (at the recent Reifen China exhibition) was Suntrac, which is produced by Dubai-based Sun Global Fzco at partner factories in China and a joint venture in Sri Lanka. The company also produces Nison brand truck and bus tyres which, a brand that was established nearly six years ago.

Currently the business focuses on the manufacturing and international distribution of bias and radial light truck, truck and bus, and off-the-road tyres distributed globally under the Suntrac name. However executive director Nitesh Shewakramani told T&A that the company plans to launch a comprehensive range of PCR & SUV as well as solid and implement tyres by mid 2011. Product wise the company currently offers over 20 different truck fitments across 16 different tread patterns.

Eastman Industries’ AddoIndia Brand Reports ‘Strong’ EU Sales in 1H 2010

Despite already being in existence for the seven years since 2003, Eastman Industries Ltd’s AddoIndia brand was a new one for Tyres & Accessories. Speaking to the magazine during the Reifen China exhibition in late November, Harpeet Singh Walia, the company’s international marketing executive, explained that the company’s cross ply tyres are produced in India, while the firm takes delivery of and distributes passenger car radials manufactured in China. In addition to these lines, the company sell “everything from bike to OTR tyres” and also markets lines in battery and wheel products. Many of the truck tyres the company sells are of bias construction, but company representatives are pragmatic about the fact that these will eventually go away.

For the fourth time in its history, Reifen China welcomed floods of visitors through the doors of the Shanghai New International Expo Center where over 100 exhibitors from some of the country's leading suppliers and traders were waiting to share details of the latest products and business developments. Like the 2009 show, this year's Reifen China doesn't have the near complete set of the top 10 Chinese tyremakers that the organisers have been able to attract in the past. However, Messe Essen GmbH's cooperation with the China United Rubber Corporation (CURC) and conceptual sponsor cooperation with Bundesverband Reifenhandel & Vulkaniseur-Handwerk e.V. (BRV – the German tyre distributor and vulcanisation association has managed to attract some of the biggest players in the business and certainly offer the largest scale and most attractive exhibition stands at any tyre show Tyres & Accessories has visited in the country.

Organisers Promote SIAPE 2010 Exhibition

Jointly organised by CEMS USA, CEMS INDIA, a leading multinational exhibition organizer of South & South-East Asia and CCPIT-Auto (China Council for Promotion of International Trade – Automotive Sub-Council), the Singapore International Auto Parts Expo 2010’ [SIAPE 2010] reports that it is set to be Asia’s latest platform, which is seeing a “revolution in the sales of Automobiles, for global players to assemble in the remarkable Asian business hub – Singapore.”

Effiplus Makes its UK Debut at Brityrex

Giving the range its UK debut at Brityrex (following a European launch at Reifen Essen in June and the initial unveiling at Reifen China last December), Techking’s aim is to place the Effiplus brand at the top of the budget segment with a view to progressing into the economy sector within the next five years. To this end, the company used its position at Brityrex as platform for attracting new distribution partners. The company’s strategy right across Europe is to offer its partners exclusivity in the various markets it works in, but company representatives also recognised that in some mature markets like the UK this it not always possible. While Techking is said to prefer to the model of offering exclusivity to a single partner, one idea is to divide the market between two or three regionally exclusive distribution partners, if necessary.
