News from the world’s largest tyre industry show, Reifen 2014, at Messe Essen, Germany
While German tyre trade organisation and Reifen show ‘ideal sponsor’ the BRV has announced plans to hold its tyre exhibition in Cologne as of 2018, Messe Essen, who operates the site where Reifen has been held for some 50 years, indicates it may continue hosting the show in Essen.
As reported yesterday, The Reifen show looks set to find a new home in Cologne from 2018 onwards. The reason local publication the Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung gave for this change of location after half a century in the German city of Essen was the local referendum on renovation plans for the Messe Essen site – 50.4 per cent of residents voted against the €120 million investment to modernise the exhibition facility. However our German sister publication Neue Reifenzeitung has learned that the move to Cologne would have occurred no matter what the referendum’s outcome was.
The trip to Essen every two years has been a fixture for those active in the tyre industry within Europe and beyond for around half a century, but as of 2018 the renowned Reifen exhibition will have a new home some 45 miles away. The show’s organiser took the decision to leave the city synonymous with the exhibition after plans to modernise the ‘Messe Essen’ site were turned down by a local referendum on 19 January.
