Triangle takes westward steps

China-based Triangle Group Co. Ltd. may already be the world’s 15th largest tyre manufacturer, according to Tyres & Accessories’ latest global tyre manufacturer ranking, but it is clear that the company is intending to go far further than this. Rhetoric to this effect is not uncommon amongst Far Eastern businesses, but as is always the case, actions speak louder than words. With its latest appearance in Essen Triangle has begun fleshing out its plans to take the company from being a Chinese manufacturer with export sales to being a large international manufacturer with global reach.

DriveRight claims thousands of visits during Reifen

News

While we know that something like 20,000 people attend the Reifen show in Essen at the end of May, you may be surprised to learn that data and software firm DriveRight is claiming that as many as 10 per cent of these approached the company during the event. According to DriveRight, 64 per cent of enquires were from international clients.

Starco brings heavy, FLT tyres to Essen

It has been interesting to watch Starco’s progression as a company through its presence at the last few Reifen shows. The Starco stands at each exhibition have reflected the Danish company’s expansion from a small tyre specialist through to an agricultural tyre and wheel supplier and maker and then to a manufacturer of industrial tyres. At Reifen 2014, Starco was intent on doing business.

Positive response to first RubberTech Europe, says organiser

The organiser of the inaugural RubberTech Europe fair reports a successful debut at Reifen 2014. China United Rubber Corporation (CURC) says RubberTech Europe “met with a very positive response amongst the exhibitors and the visitors” and “supplemented the range on offer at Reifen in very way.”

Deldo exhibits new Tristar range at meeting-rich Reifen show

It’s no secret that trade exhibitions such as Reifen primarily serve as venues for maintaining business relationships and for meeting new customers or suppliers, and Deldo Autobanden used the show week to its full potential. When Tyres & Accessories dropped by the Antwerp-based wholesaler’s stand it was typically brimming with activity; during a quieter moment, marketing and communication management assistant Jente Vermeiren shared that Reifen had more than met Deldo’s expectations.

Mould cure retreading ever-more important for OBO Tyres

The stated goal of OBO Tyres is to supply customers with tread that meets their needs. The Dutch retreader specialises in the off-road segment and offers tyre repair, pre-cure retreading and, increasingly, mould cure retreading. General manager Ursula Abels told Tyres & Accessories during Reifen 2014 that the mould cure retreading operation has become OBO’s most significant business.

Developing range a Lassa priority

Several recently-introduced products were on display at the Lassa stand at this year’s Reifen show. The Turkish tyre brand, produced by Bridgestone/Sabanci joint venture company Brisa, has been extended with the introduction of a new UHP range, Phenomena, and its latest winter line-up, the Snoways 3.

Hämmerling appoints Philip White Tyres as UK and Eire Athos distributor

Paderborn, Germany-based, Hämmerling – The Tyre Company GmbH, has signed a distributor agreement with Irish company Philip White Tyres Ltd. This family-owned company is now the exclusive distributor of Athos truck tyres in the UK and Ireland with immediate effect. This newly-signed agreement with Philip White Tyres Ltd is aimed at achieving further growth of Hämmerling – The Tyre Company GmbH in the UK tyre market.

Aeolus becomes sustaining member of German tyre dealer association

Aeolus has announced its membership of German tyre dealer association BRV. The Chinese brand says it will cooperate on bilateral work with the association. Wang Feng, general director of Aeolus Tyres said: “As a Chinese tyre manufacturer, we are particularly proud to become a sustaining member of the German association. We look forward to providing support for the regulations and the major tasks in this very important branch of the specialised trade within the scope of our capabilities.”

Zafco shows the latest from Zeetex, Otani at Reifen

Several new product lines graced the Zafco stand at this year’s Reifen show. The latest range to emerge from the company’s joint venture with Thailand’s Otani Tire is the Otani Expero TBR line, a 14-size range that aims to cater to the needs of the European market and places a focus on durability and reduced rolling resistance.

BKT maintains 30% CAGR

During Reifen 2014 a BKT (Balkrishna Industries) representative commented that the Indian off-road tyre specialist’s turnover has increased by an average of 30 per cent a year over the last five years. A look at the company’s results for the 2013-14 financial year shows this is indeed the case; for the 12 months to 31 March 2014 the company achieved net sales of Rs 35,770 million (£360.4 million). This is a long way from the Rs 12,572 billion earned in 2008-09. EBITDA was Rs 8,940 million (£90.1 million) for the 2013-14 period, a year-on-year increase of 34.5 per cent, while the EBITDA margin rose from 20.8 per cent to 25.0 per cent. Net profit for the year amounted to Rs 4,883 million (£49.2 million), with an earnings per share of Rs 50.53.

Borbet unveils new online presence

Alloy wheel manufacturer Borbet marked the start of Reifen 2014 last week with the launch of its new-look website. The www.borbet.de site offers both English and German language options, although at the time of writing some features are only available in German.

Kraiburg celebrates 50 years and new designs:

Retreading

Five decades ago Kraiburg started production at its Geretsberg site with just eight employees. The customs barriers between Germany and Austria were the reason why the directors of the Kraiburg family business with its headquarters in Waldkraiburg in Bavaria decided to go across the border. After two decades of producing in Germany they purchased a saw-mill with 11 hectares of land in Geretsberg, Austria and built up Kraiburg Austria.
