Record Mileage Performance for Owner-Driver

Carlisle based owner-driver Keith Simpson has just replaced the original drive axle tyres on his Volvo FH12 tractor unit after an impressive 616,000 kilometres. The Michelin 295/80 R22.5 XDE2 tyres recorded this performance during the first life of the brand new tyres, followed by a regroove, which ensured an additional 20 per cent mileage. The regrooving also extended the tyres most fuel-efficient state, in line with Michelin’s Stop Thirsty Tyres Campaign.

EnTire Solutions Names New PR Agency

EnTire Solutions, LLC has named Bianchi Public Relations, Inc as its public relations agency of record. The announcement was made by Richard Wolfe CEO of EnTire Solutions, and James A Bianchi, president of the public relations firm.

Bianchi Public Relations will provide strategic public relations counsel, media relations and promotional assistance to EnTire Solutions, which develops, markets and sells direct, driver-oriented tyre pressure monitoring (TPM) systems and related tools and services to vehicle manufacturers. The firm has been assisting EnTire Solutions on a project basis.

British GT Lap Records Under Threat Says Avon

The British GT lap record could be about to fall, according to series tyre supplier Avon Tyres, and its tyre are set to play an important part.

After close season development, the most recent test (2 February), involved teams from the GT2 and GT3 categories. Despite an ambient temperature hovering around freezing, TracksSpeed’s team manager Piers Masarati, who was testing a Porsche 911, managed to set a time 0.7 seconds quicker than last year’s pole position for the GT3 category. (Piers Maserati set a time of 1 min 11.2. Last season’s pole position time for the GT3 category was 1 min11.9.

Michelin Expected to Announce Operating Margin of 8.7 per cent

Michelin is expected to record a “stable” operating margin for 2005 when it announces its full-year results on 14 February. The price rises implemented by the tyre manufacturer have reportedly made it possible to compensate for high raw material prices. A consensus of the estimates of 15 analysts, suggests that the company will publish a 2005 operating margin of 8.7 per cent, according to Reuters.

Record Number of Automobiles Sold in Mexico in 2005

(Akron/Tire Review) A record 1.13 million automobiles were sold in Mexico in 2005, up 3.3 percent from the year before, the Mexican Automotive Industry Association, or AMIA, announced on Tuesday.

GreenMan Technologies Delays Filing Year-End Results

GreenMan Technologies has announced that it expects to report “aggregate net loss for the fiscal year ended 30 September 2005 [of] between $14 and $15 million.” The company also said it will delaying filing its 10-KSB for the year. According to the company, this will take no more than 30 days and is necessary for it to finalise the accounting treatment of the pending divestiture of its Georgia operation. Greenman is recycles over 20 million scrap tyres per year in the US.

Titan Announces Fourth Quarter Dividend

The Board of Directors of Titan International, Inc has approved a quarterly cash dividend of $.005 (one half cent) per common share for the fourth quarter of 2005. The cash dividend is payable 13 January 2006, to stockholders of record on 30 December 2005.

Pirelli North America Develops at ‘Record’ Pace

According to the Italian manufacturer, Pirelli’s 2006 price book reveals an impressive 61 new sizes added to the range marketed just 12 months ago. These numbers don’t refer to new products in existing sizes (there are a further 65 new product items) but completely new sizes designed from scratch – 28 for passenger cars and a further 33 for light truck.

Record US Tyre Shipments

Passenger car replacement tyre shipments are expected to reach a record total of 205 million units this year, according to the latest RMA figures. The previous record was 198.9 million units, set in 2000. This will be the first time shipments have exceeded 200 million units in any given year. Similarly, tyre shipments for the combined original equipment (OE) and replacement consumer and commercial sectors are expected to increase by 2.2 per cent compared to 2004 as a result of continued steady economic growth.

SmarTire Modifies Manufacturing Agreements

SmarTire Systems Inc has expanded its manufacturing agreement with Vansco Electronics LP. Under the agreement, Vansco will manufacture key subsystems for SmarTire’s wireless gateway family of products. SmarTire also announced the termination of its contract manufacturing agreement with Hyundai Autonet Company, Ltd (“HACO”) in Korea, which was terminated as a result of HACO’s acquisition by Hyundai.

Continental 3Q Figures Outperform Full Year 2004 Result

International automotive supplier Continental AG has once again lifted sales and earnings, with sales rising considerably by a two-digit figure thanks to the successful integration of Phoenix AG. “In the first three quarters, we have already outperformed the full-year figures for 2004 – for net income before taxes and interest as well as profit. In addition to the excellent operational performance, this is also a result of one-off effects,” said executive board chairman Manfred Wennemer on Wednesday in Hanover. “There is no indication that this trend will change in the fourth quarter, so we will top our record figures from last year, even when the one-off effects are not taken into consideration.”

Upward Re-Revision of Forecasts

The Yokohama Rubber Co, Ltd has announced a 2.3 per cent increase over its initial forecast for the first half of 2006 (1 April 2005 to 30 September 2005). This means the company expects to record 200 billion yen in net sales, 3.5 billion yen increase in ordinary profit (a 133.3 per cent increase) and 13 billion yen in net income (up 8.3 per cent). According to Yokohama, these upward revisions reflect an increase in the volume of sales in the company’s overseas tyre business, profit improvements in North America, and the weaker-than-expected foreign exchange rate of yen.

Future Toyota Cars will be 100 per cent Hybrid

(Akron/Tire Review) Toyota Motor Corp. says record fuel prices will reduce demand for conventional vehicles and increase demand in hybrids. As a result, future Toyota vehicles will be 100 per cent hybrid, according to executive vice president Kazuo Okamoto. He did not specify a date.

At an investor conference in New York, Katsuaki Watanabe, Toyota president, said the carmaker plans to produce 400,000 hybrid vehicles in 2006, which is 60 per cent more than 2005’s target. Watanabe also said he would cut product costs and cut the $5,000 price premium in half.
