Bridgestone Adds a Dozen Truck Sizes

Bridgestone has added 12 new sizes to its “New Generation” range of premium steer, drive and trailer products. A new 385/55 R22.5 super single front steer headlines the additions to the R249 range, alongside 305/70 R22.5; 275/70 R22.5; 295/60 R22.5; and 315/60 R22.5 sizes. The extended M749 range now includes: 295/60 R22.5; 315/60 R22.5 and 315/70 22.5. Two more R168 sizes gave been added (245/70 R17.5 and 9.5 R17.5), with a further two sizes (285/70 R19.5 and 245/70 R19.5) following in July and August respectively.

World’s Fastest Production Car Takes Record on Michelin Tyres

Shelby SuperCars’ Ultimate Aero, fitted with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 tyres, has set a new record of 256.18mph. This, according to Michelin, meant the “Ultimate Aero” is set to be officially recognised as the world’s fastest production car. The SSC Ultimate Aero was clocked at 15mph quicker than the previous titleholder, the Koenigsegg CCR and quicker than the Bugatti Veyron’s unofficial speed claim of 252.55mph. This is the first time that an American manufacturer has held this world title since the iconic Ford GT40 way back in 1967.

Michelin has been the tyre technical partner of Shelby SuperCars since the project was founded by Jerod Shelby seven years ago and has contributed technical advice on suspension design and set up for the Ultimate Aero. The Pilot Sport PS2 tyres fitted for the trial had to withstand speeds up to 257mph on the closed undulating country roads used for the test in Washington State – apparently with little to no wear.

Tzunamee From Barracuda

“Tzunamee” is the name of the latest wheel from Barracuda, with a striking design that the manufacturer says really catches the eye.
The powerful visual impression is defined by a combination of two different spider designs, which produce ten basic spokes together, doubling in number as they branch outwards. The branches of the new spider design extend from the rim base all the way to the rim edge. Fitted with bolts, between which the “Barracuda” logo has been discreetly positioned, the finishing tips of the other design create the impression of a composite rim.

The spokes of the second spider greatly increase the strength of the wheel, whilst the construction permits an extremely lightweight design. For example, the wheel with the size 8×18″ has thus been given a wheel-load guarantee of a possibly record-breaking 880 kg by the TÜV (German Technical Control Board).

Cooper Announces 144th Quarterly Dividend

Cooper Tire & Rubber Company is to pay a quarterly dividend of 10.5 cents per share on common stock 31 March, 2008, to stockholders of record at the close of business 10 March, 2008. The payment represents the 144th consecutive quarterly dividend made by Cooper Tire & Rubber Company.

Tarmac Rally Champion Chooses BFGoodrich

Following his fourth successive Irish Tarmac Rally Championship win Eugene Donnelly is set to continue his partnership with BFGoodrich in 2008. Donnelly and co-driver of five years, Paul Keilly, will be competing in a Subaru S12 run by SB Motorsports, a new team formed and staffed by rally specialists.

“We had our first test in the car towards the end of January,” said Donnelly. “We ran on muddy tarmac surfaces to get the set up tuned for the Galway Rally and the test went very well indeed. Unfortunately we had a couple of mechanical gremlins on the rally itself, the loss of hydraulic pressure in the gear-shift system finally forced us out. However the car handled superbly and the latest BFGoodrich tyres really worked well in the cold, wet conditions. Our great relationship with BFGoodrich means we have a lot of confidence in their products and can push the car from the outset. The new team certainly gelled very well and I’m very confident that we have the best package to defend our title.”

WRAP Seeks New eQuip Lessors

WRAP is looking for new lessors to join its successful eQuip Residual Value Guarantee scheme, which in its four years of operation has benefited a number of tyre recyclers. There are currently ten finance providers signed up to the scheme and WRAP now wants to open the panel to new lessors as the recycling sector continues to grow.

Ian Wardle, Head of Business Support at WRAP, says: “eQuip has already made a significant contribution towards meeting UK recycling targets. To date, 328 assets have been guaranteed through eQuip, at a value in excess of £19 million. These assets have already diverted three million tonnes of waste from landfill and the demand for this type of activity is going to grow rapidly in the next few years. We need other lessors to join the existing panel so that we can help the recycling sector to keep pace with this demand.”

PTL Announces New Greenfield Facility

On January 15 the Board of Directors of PTL Enterprises took on record the company’s unaudited results for third quarter of 2007-8 and gave approval for a Rs 400 million (£5.2 million) green field project in Kerala. For the third quarter of the year, PTL Enterprises recorded a total income of Rs 67.1 million (£871,800) from Rs 38 million (£493,700) in the same quarter last year; an increase of nearly 77 per cent. Company net profit went up by more than 1000 per cent to Rs 23.6 million (£306,600) this quarter from Rs 2 million (£26,000) in Q3 FY 2006-07.

The Board of Directors approved a Rs 400 million investment for a greenfield facility manufacturing specialty tyres for the Indian market. The manufacturing unit will be established on land recently acquired by the company in Ernakulam, district of Kerala. The PTL facility is currently leased to Apollo Tyres.

£400,000 Contract Win For Bandvulc

Ivybridge-based Bandvulc Tyre Contracts (BTC), the management arm of the Bandvulc Group of Companies, has won a major new contract from Axis Intermodal, one of the leading European hirers of Trailers, Trucks, Rigids and Intermodal Swap Bodies. The new deal is worth an estimated £400,000 per annum.

BTC will manage Intermodal’s 5,000-strong fleet across the UK and Europe delivering real time cost savings through a comprehensive package of benefits. One such benefit is the ability to provide specific recharge reports, enabling Axis to monitor and control damaged tyres.

Tyrexpo Asia 2009

A record number of visitors attended Tyrexpo Expo Asia 2007, with the final attendance figure standing at 3,219 people from 25 countries. Also at the sixth show were 125 exhibitors, a 30 per cent increase on 2005. The organizers, ECI International, now reckon that the next Tyrexpo Asia in 2009 will gain significance as the leading event of its kind in the region. Tyrexpo Asia 2009 will take place between March 24 and 26, 2009 at the Singapore Expo Center.

Titan International Announces Q4 Dividend

The Board of Directors of Titan International has approved a quarterly cash dividend of US$.005 per common share for the fourth quarter of 2007. The cash dividend is payable January 15, 2008, to stockholders of record on December 31, 2007.

Cooper Tire & Rubber Announces 143rd Quarterly Dividend

On November 15 Cooper Tire & Rubber announced a quarterly dividend of 10.5 cents per share on its common stock, payable December 28, 2007, to stockholders of record at the close of business on December 3, 2007. This latest payment will mark the 143rd consecutive quarterly dividend paid by the Cooper Tire & Rubber Company. The company, which went public in 1960, has increased the dividend it has paid annually since 1980.

Bridgestone Develops Thinnest Flexible Displays

First Bridgestone developed Electronic Liquid Powder, in 2002. Then in October 2004 Bridgestone became the first in the world to develop electronic paper for use as electronic price tags that retain their images after the electrical power has been turned off. Now Bridgestone has succeeded in the development of full-colour A3 displays – surpassing the previous world record of A4.

Autodiagnos Releases new Diagnostic Oscilloscope

Autodiagnos, manufacturers of professional diagnostic equipment, namely the Multi Tester Pro, have added a four channel automotive oscilloscope to their product portfolio. The four channel AutoScope from Autodiagnos has an autometers function that provides dedicated presets for injector, O2 Sensor, MAP/MAF Analogue, MAP/MAF Digital and TPS signals and allows the user to browse the integral waveform library to compare healthy and faulty waveform signals.

The AutoScope comes equipped with four colour coded ‘bed of nails’ type probe connectors that offer superior wire connectability. It has a 50 frame live record with playback and also glitch capture, which enables the technician to easily review anomalies. To ensure the AutoScope is always ready for use, it features a one-hour fast charge function as well as the standard trickle charge option.

Hankook Teams Up With Record Label and Bands

(Akron/Tire Review) Hankook Tire America Corp. is partnering with New Jersey-based Eyeball Records. In the deal, Hankook will supply tyres to groups on the label for their touring vehicles. In exchange, the groups and label will promote the Hankook brand, including exposure on the label and band’s Web and myspace.com sites.

“We’re really excited about teaming up with Eyeball Records and their bands, including New Atlantic,” said Keven McDonald, Hankook’s advertising and PR coordinator. “Young musicians are generally stretching their budgets as far as possible, now these guys will have one less thing to worry about. We’re looking forward to helping the bands from Eyeball get where they need to go.”

Dunlop Direzza Benchmark in Autocar Test

This year Autocar chose the Dunlop Direzza DZ02 a benchmark tyre for its detailed tyre test. According to Dunlop the tyre was chosen of its position as a leading road legal track tyre – and because it holds the lap record for road legal tyres at the infamous Nuerburgring Nordschliefe.

The Direzza was fitted to a Ford Mondeo TDCi to prove what kind of advantage a bespoke road legal track tyre could offer in the dry. The test team, led by Autocar’s Keith Howard claimed: “In the dry the Dunlop Direzza was much quicker through corners than any of the other tyres, in many cases needing a higher gear. Through the two fast S-Bends the difference was about 7mph. It was equally impressive under braking, stopping on average 2.6 metres shorter than the best conventional road tyre.”
