Vee Tyre and Rubber is recalling certain Taiga M/T tyres in size LT225/75R16, according to NHTSA (the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). 21 tyres manufactured between 8 January 2015 and 1 March 2015 are covered in the recall.
In the USA, Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations has petitioned the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration (NHTSA) for an inconsequential noncompliance decision relating to Bridgestone VSB heavy-duty radial truck tyres.
On 19 May 2016, Vauxhall announced a second recall on Vauxhall Zafira B models. Owners would be invited to bring their vehicles back to Vauxhall dealerships so that preventative action could be carried out to protect the vehicles from the risk of fire.
Goodyear Dunlop has recalled 1,084 Dunlop SportMaxx GT tyres. The recall affects size 255/40 ZR19 100Y XL summer car tyres produced in weeks 37 and 38 of 2015 and is taking place in order to ensure the return of 369 tyres that were manufactured using the wrong tread compound.
Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations, LLC (BATO) is recalling certain FS561 replacement tyres, size 255/70 R22.5, manufactured 25 January 2015 and January 27, 2016 (DOT weeks 0515-0416) for use on trailers.
Continental Automotive Systems has reportedly admitted supplying “potentially defective air bag control units to 5 million vehicles used by Honda, Fiat Chrysler, Mercedes-Benz, and three other manufacturers built over a five-year period worldwide”, according to a Reuters report. Continental Automotive told the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that electronic systems built between 2006 and 2010 could fail and air bags may not deploy in a crash or may deploy without warning.
Hankook Tire America Corp. (Hankook) is recalling certain Ventus S1 Noble 2 tyres I n the US because they may develop cracks in the tyre sidewall, resulting in a loss of air. The products subject to the recall are the 245/45R18 96W, manufactured 20 May 2013 to 14 February 2015; and size 245/40R19 94W and 275/35R19 96W tyres manufactured 22 May 2013 to 14 February 2015 supplied for 2015 Hyundai Genesis vehicles as well as being sold as replacement tyres.

Klarius, the manufacturer of aftermarket emissions products including exhausts, CATs and Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) has confirmed that fitting aftermarket systems will not affect the efficiency or emissions of VW vehicles in the wake of what has been called the ‘diesel dupe’ scandal where an emissions test software ‘cheat’ was allegedly fitted to over 11million VW Group vehicles in order to meet strict US NOx test regulations.
News that VW is recalling almost half a million diesel cars in the US is bad enough, but the revelation that this is because the company put so-called defeat devices into the cars in order to mislead emissions testing systems is likely to damage the OEM’s reputation. And there is a growing financial cost too.

Around 104,000 BFGoodrich tyres sold in the USA and a further 15,000 sold in Canada and Mexico, have been recalled as a safety precaution. The recall covers tyres from the BFGoodrich Commercial T/A All-Season, Commercial T/A All-Season 2 and Rugged Terrain T/A ranges, and BFGoodrich states that the recall was announced as a “limited number” of these tyres had experienced sidewall ruptures in the bead area under severe use, leading to a rapid loss of air pressure.
Continental AG has announced what it is calling a voluntary tyre exchange programme (as opposed to a recall) of approximately 12,000 truck tyres. The tyre in question is a 205/75R17.5 Conti Hybrid LS3, produced from calendar week 27 in 2014 to calendar week 26 in 2015. The product was mainly sold to original equipment manufacturers in Europe and – to a lesser degree – into the replacement market. Continental stressed that there have been no reports of accidents or injuries.
Some 3,800 ContiProContact tyres sold in the US market have been recalled due to the risk of tread separation. Continental says the recall relates to size P205/65 R15 95T XL tyres manufactured in February 2015. These replacement market products carry the Department of Transportation code VY UR 471B 0615.
Kumho Tire is aiming to increase its sales in China by 30 per cent in 2015. According to online reports originally published by the Yonhap News, Kumho plans to re-take market share lost in the world’s largest auto market.
