Goodyear Researcher Receives DuPont Award

Goodyear Tire & Rubber researcher Kevin Westgate is to receive a DuPont award recognising the commercialisation of one of the company’s most important technologies. The lead engineer in Goodyear’s Global Material Science Group is one of four people awarded DuPont’s 2009 Bolton/Carothers Innovative Science Award. This distinction acknowledges the work that Westgate and three colleagues employed by DuPont have contributed towards introducing hybrid cord technology containing DuPont’s Kevlar into numerous tyre products.

Orange Electronic to Hit the NA Market

Norstar International, Orange Electronic Taiwan and a group of investors have launched Orange Electronic North America LLC. According to reports, the new company will assume control of the North American marketing, sales and distribution of Orange Electronic Taiwan’s TPMS products. “We have been working with Orange Electronic as a distributor for the past two years and were impressed by their high quality products and innovative solutions,” said Steve Norris, president of Norstar International and Orange Electronic North America.

Hankook R&D Head Receives University Honour

Polymer science expert Dr. Hwi Joong Kim’s work for Hankook Tire has attracted the attention and admiration of his former university – On October 2 the University of Akron M.D. and Ph.D. graduate received the 2009 Outstanding Alumnus award from the seat of learning.

New GTRadial and Primewell Tyres

As part of GITI Tire’s ongoing programme of product developments (see June Tyres & Accessories for further details), the company has added four patterns to its Primewell and GTRadial branded truck ranges. Three of the four new patterns (PTL711, PDM331 and PAM532) are being added to the Primewell range.

GITI to Construct New Chinese Proving Ground and R&D Centre

Another crucial area of responsibility for ETC’s leadership is the development of new global test facilities, test equipment and methodology. For the time being, at least, this centres on two key multi-million dollar projects – the development of the company’s recently constructed R&D centre alongside its Hefei City, Anhui Province manufacturer facility and the design and construction of a new cutting edge proving ground. The idea here is to bring premium quality tyre testing and development to China in order to enable the entire global company to produce higher order products, with the ultimate aim of competing with the premium manufacturers.
