Dmack launches first WRC team as Tänak rejoins

Tyre manufacturer Dmack has launched its first FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) team, with Estonian driver Ott Tänakat the helm. The Dmack World Rally Team will run a Ford Fiesta RS WRC in close partnership with M-Sport, with the 28-year-old Tänak competing on all 14 rounds of the series. It will be the first time Dmack will compete against the factory teams of Volkswagen and Hyundai in the FIA World Rally Championship for Manufacturers, and will allow its tyres the opportunity to rub shoulders with Michelin and Pirelli at the top level of the sport.

Rhenus rallies to Hong Kong-Beijing motorsport event’s cause

Freight forwarder Rhenus Logistics has helped the organiser of the Hong Kong-Beijing Rally celebrate the event’s 30th anniversary in style, having air freighted two 1985 Audi 80 Quattro four wheel drive cars from Bebington, UK to the rally’s start line in Hong Kong, China.

Dmack seeking repeat of home event WRC success

Dmack will aim to repeat its 2014 WRC2 victory when its drivers take on the tyre supplier’s home round of the 2015 FIA World Rally Championship at Wales Rally GB. The company said that winter weather and high-speed forest roads would result in a challenging end to the season.

Aasen wins Drive Dmack Fiesta Trophy

Marius Aasen has won the 2015 Drive Dmack Fiesta Trophy, seeing him claim what the World Rally Championship tyre supplier Dmack calls “the biggest prize in rallying;” he will claim a lucrative full seven-round series of 2016 WRC 2 competition using a Drive Dmack Ford Fiesta R5. Aasen completed his title-winning season with victory at the last of five events in Spain. The 23-year old and his co-driver Veronica Engan finished ahead of British rival Tom Cave, who claimed second place overall for the second successive season. The Fiesta Trophy was thrillingly close this season, with seven crews in with a mathematical chance of winning the title heading into the mixed surface RallyRACC-Rally de Espana.

All the competing cars from the annual Car Dealer Bangers4BEN Rally will be offered and sold, with all the proceeds going directly to BEN. The sale is scheduled to commence at 13.15.

Yokohama encouraged by pace shown in BTRDA rally series

The UK distributor for Yokohama tyres, YHPT, has said it is encouraged by the pace shown by Next Big Step runner Aaron McClure in this year’s BTRDA rally series. A graduate of the Formula 1000 Junior championship and competing as part of a ‘ladder of opportunity’ which is supported at all levels by Yokohama, McClure demonstrated excellent pace in his Group N Mitsubishi Lancer rally car on numerous occasions throughout the season.

Pirelli taking on ‘unique challenge’ at the Rally Roma Capitale

For the first time, an Italian Rally Championship round will take place in the heart of the country’s capital city, and Pirelli describes its participation in the Rally Roma Capitale as a “big step into the unknown.” But although rallying in Rome is uncharted territory for the tyre maker, Pirelli appears to be on top of the matter.

Dmack gravel tyres, teams come through ‘tough test’ in WRC Australia

The diverse gravel roads of Coates Hire Rally Australia, round 10 of the FIA World Rally Championship, provided a “tough test” for Dmack’s WRC tyres and teams, according to the motorsport tyre brand. Its DMG+2 gravel tyre was supplied to teams in nominated S3 and softer S6 compounds, and Dmack stated the tyre had “performed as expected” across the 311km of competitive action around Coffs Harbour on the News South Wales coast. The Drive Dmack team hoped to compete for top honours in WRC2 with the local knowledge of Australian pairing Scott Pedder and Dale Moscatt, but an off on the first day, and a technical problem on the last undermined a series of otherwise strong runs.

Dmack backs Pedder for home rally run

Dmack returns to the event on which it secured its first WRC2 championship in 2014 at Coates Hire Rally Australia. Its Drive Dmack team is targeting continued success this time around with the top local driver joining its ranks. Supplying its WRC tyres to the event, Dmack has shipped its bespoke fitting container, fitted with the machines and equipment needed to supply gravel tyres for competitors. The latest DMG+2 tyres have flown directly from the Yongtai factory.

Dmack to introduce new tyre, driver in Finland

Dmack will introduce a new soft compound version of its DMG+2 rally tyre in Finland, while the tyre supplier will also enter last year’s Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy winner as a new team – Drive Dmack 2. With the tyre brand’s lead driver, Jari Ketomaa, forced onto the sidelines for his home rally on medical advice, Dmack completes its changes with a new driver; Ketomaa’s fellow Finn, Jarkko Nikara steps in to take his place on the Neste Oil Rally Finland.

Mitsubishi opts for Falken tyres for Portuguese rally

Mitsubishi has chosen Falken high-performance all-terrain tyres for its entry in the Baja Portoalegre 500 off-road rally. The modified racing model of the Mitsubishi PHEV, powered by plug-in hybrid technology, will tackle the 500-kilometre route with off-road tyres from Falken’s WildPeak range.

Vatanen aims to maintain pole in Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy

Competitors in the 2015 Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy will aim to put on a real show for spectators from all over Europe when round two of the series takes the 11 crews to Poland next weekend. Max Vatanen won the competitive season-opener at the Vodafone Rally de Portugal in May after topping the field in half of the 12 tough gravel stages, though the lead had changed hands several times earlier in the weekend.
