Carlisle based tyre brand Dmack has been awarded a place in the final of the Cathay Pacific China Business Awards. Local news source North West Evening Mail reports that the company is shortlisted in the Rising Star category. The awards recognise UK and Irish businesses demonstrating existing positive returns and ongoing plans for future investment in China and Hong Kong, with the Rising Star award given to those opening Chinese operations in the last five years.
Toyo Tires has announced that a further 12 fitments of its popular and effective Open Country M/T tyre have gained Professional Off Road (POR) accreditation, allowing them to be listed and sold outside of current EU labelling requirements. The tyre is already hugely popular with many off-road professionals, including multiple Dakar and Baja winner, Robby Gordon. The tyre is also being used this year by the Isuzu UK Works Rally Team, on appropriate events.
Cooper Tire will serve as tyre supplier to the Titan Desert mountain bike marathon. The Titan Desert by Garmin 2014 Marathon, to use its full, sponsor-friendly title, begins on 27 April and will see more than 400 participants traversing a 700 kilometre, six-stage course. Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx tyres will be fitted on 20 support vehicles. This vehicle fleet will cover around 1,000 kilometres of demanding terrain during the mountain bike marathon, from stone tracks and dry river beds to soft sand dunes, in temperatures expected to reach as high as 40°C.
Now in the second phase of its rollout of passenger car tyres, World Rally Championship tyre supplier Dmack is seeking the right partners around the world for its Shandong Yongtai manufactured road tyres. The company has quadrupled the number of sizes in its PCR tyre range of four patterns in the first half of 2014. This year marks the debut of the FIA World Rallycross Championship, and Cooper Tire Europe has been appointed exclusive tyre supplier. Under the terms of three-year agreement signed with the ‘FIA World Rallycross Championship presented by Monster Energy’, or World RX for short, Cooper will supply tyres to drivers for all 12 rounds of the 2014 season and also over the coming two years. This year’s championship begins at the Pista Automóvel de Montalegre in Portugal on 3 May.

Pirelli’s all-new Scorpion Gravel tyre helped two cars achieve WRC2 podium finishes on its return to the World Rally Championship, after a three-year absence. Pirelli is supplying tyres on a customer basis to privateers, and Lorenzo Bertelli (13th overall and second in WRC2) in his Ford Fiesta RRC, and Max Rendina (14th overall and third in WRC2) with a Mitsubishi Lancer both achieved top-three places in their class on the new tyre.
Pirelli has announced the expansion of its Star Driver Scheme, which has previously helped up-and-coming talent such as Elfyn Evans reach the top of world rallying. In a change to the previous on-event selection process, the 2014 MSA British Rally Championship’s Pirelli Star Driver nominations will be awarded to each of the BRC’s five category champions at the end of the season.

Kumho Tyre Australia has become the new naming rights sponsor for the Australian Junior Rally Challenge, further expanding the company’s backing of the ECB Australian Rally Championship. Kumho is already the championship’s official tyre supplier. Announcing the company’s participation as naming rights sponsor, Kumho Tyre Australia’s national marketing and training manager, David Basha, said “Kumho believes in the future of the Australian Rally Championship and backing the Junior Challenge is all about nurturing the future stars of the sport who will help build interest in the championship overall.
Cooper Tire Europe’s 4×4 ambassador Xavi Foj took third place in the Dakar Rally, following an epic fightback. Foj has used Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx tyres in the past three Dakar events, claiming T2 Class victories in 2012 and 2013. After a difficult opening to his 2014 Dakar campaign, including brake issues and an electronic problem, hopes of a hat-trick faded.
Groupauto, the company responsible for the Approved Garages scheme has increased its sponsorship activity in the British Touring Car Championship for 2014. The company is now a partner sponsor of the Power Maxed Racing VW Passat, following a successful ticket sponsorship deal with Donington Park in 2013.
