Alliance Launches 800/70R 38 HP Agricultural Tyre

Alliance Tire has announced the release onto the US market of its 800/70R 38 tyre as the newest addition to the 370 series for high-powered agricultural tractors and combines.

The heightened performance values are joined by a wide base to provide an additional 10 per cent on top of the load capacity as the normal section size (at the same pressure) it is designed to replace. The larger footprint should also help to reduce soil compaction and improve flotation, says Alliance. The company adds that the tyre possesses aggressive lugs with a non-skid depth of 78/32nds, rigid radial belts and a rugged nylon casing, and unique shoulder and mudguard design. The tyre is suitable for any soil conditions.

Conti’s European Tour Gets Underway With 6 New Truck Tyres

At the start of May Continental kicked off its “Road-Show 2009”, and is taking its show truck – featuring a display of its tyres and their various features – on a European tour. The road trip traverses the continent, from Helsinki to southern Portugal, Paris to the Baltic states and on to Sofia in Bulgaria. In total the Road-Show will cover more than 20 European Union lands and stop at more than 50 locations.

Indian Govt Ponders PCR Duty

India’s government intends to introduce import duties for passenger car radials in an attempt to protect the domestic industry against the growing quantities of the product being shipped into the country. According to an anonymous official, the Directorate General of Safeguards, a section of the national Revenue Department, is examining an industry filed complaint. Tyre manufacturers allege that the sharp increase in imports over the past year is causing them harm. A formal case is likely to be initiated by the Director General of Safeguards.

New Wide Base from Giti

Giti Tire USA has introduced the GT876, a wide base all-position radial. Designed for on-/off-highway and heavy haul applications, the GT876 features a wide footprint, chip and cut resistant tread compound, and a deep, aggressive tread. Toyo Adds Nine New Sizes

Toyo Tire USA has added nine new sizes to its passenger and light truck/SUV tires lines: the Versado LX is now available in 215/50R16, 215/55R18 and 235/45R18, the Proxes T1R in 245/45ZR19, the Proxes R1R in 225/45ZR17, the Proxes 4 in 265/25ZR30, the Proxes R888 in 265/30ZR19 and the Open Country H/T: P265/65R18 and LT285/75R16 LRE.

The company has also introduced the street legal drag radial, the Proxes TQ, in six sizes, ranging from 16- to 18-inches in wheel diameter. (Tire Review/Akron)

New Sizes for Toyo Regional Radial

Toyo Tire USA Corp. has added two new sizes to its Toyo M154 regional highway radial. The new sizes are 265/75R22.5 and 245/75R22.5, both in load range G.

Released last year, the M154 incorporates Toyo’s proprietary “e-balance” technology for endurance and irregular wear resistance. Toyo said the tyre is “ideal for steer applications, but well suited for use in any position” and “helps to reduce fuel consumption while delivering reliable operation.” (Tire Review/Akron)

Strength & Comfort the Goal of Goodyear’s Latest Wrangler

New from Goodyear in 2009 is the Wrangler AT/SA, a tyre for 4×4 drivers seeking mobility both on and off the road. The Wrangler AT/SA has been released onto the market following extensive testing on the company’s on and off-road test facilities – tests that Goodyear says show the new tyre to outperform its major competitors and its predecessor in both wet braking and wet handling tests.

Durability on rough surfaces comes courtesy of a generous serving of Kevlar. Two layers of the five-times stronger than steel material are built into the tyre in addition to the its two high-tensile steel belts; the main benefit the layers offer, says Goodyear, is improved resistance to punctures in the tread – however Kevlar layers also act as a sound barrier, absorbing noise for an especially quiet ride. This combination of strength and silence is part of what the manufacturer calls its ‘SilentArmor Technology’, a proprietary innovation first introduced on Goodyear 4×4 some four years ago.

European Release for New Firestone Touring Tyre

Targeted at what the manufacturer calls ‘family drivers’ – saloon and compact vehicle drivers who enjoy a peaceful and relaxing experience behind the wheel – the new TZ300α is designed to offer robust and reliable performance, along with safety, comfort and a quiet ride. The TZ300α range is initially available in 14 sizes for 14 to 16-inch rims and will progressively replace the TZ200, which was first introduced in 2002.

Toyo Tire USA Unveils First DOT Approved Drag Radial

Toyo Tire USA has introduced its first Department of Transport approved drag radial. Known as the Proxes TQ, the new tyre is specifically designed for high-horsepower muscle cars and street machines. The tyre was unveiled before a crowd of racing enthusiasts at the Performance Racing Industry Trade Show in Orlando, Florida.

Truck Tyre Dumping Probe Begins in India

India’s Commerce Department has, according to national media, commenced an investigation into alleged dumping of Chinese and Thai made truck and bus radials in the Indian market. The decision to launch this investigation follows a complaint lodged by national tyre industry representative body, the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers Association (ATMA).

Bridgestone Recalling Passenger Tyres

NHTSA has announced a voluntary recall by Bridgestone Americas of some 150,000 radial passenger tyres. Being recalled are 135,310 Firestone FR380 in size P235/75R15 produced between 4 June, 2006 and 8 September, 2007; and 26,941 LeMans Champion SE tyres in then same size P235/75R15, manufactured between 4 June, 2006 and 2 September, 2006.

NHTSA said the tyres were produced with insufficient tread base gauge, which could lead to vibration and groove cracking, while extended use could lead to tread distortion or tread separation. Bridgestone Americas is notifying owners and will replace the affected tyres free of charge. (Tire Review/Akron)

China Tyre Production 630 Million Units Annually by 2010 – Report

According to a recently released report, tyre output in China enjoyed a growth rate of 20 per cent per annum between the years 2002 and 2007, with annual growth in radial output an even higher 33 per cent. It is expected, states the report, that tyre output will reach 630 million units per annum by 2010, with radial production accounting for 530 million units.

Goodyear Suspending Topeka Truck Tyre Production – Again

Worsening economic conditions in the US are continuing to affect tyre manufacturers. Goodyear has announced yet another one-week partial shutdown of its Topeka, Kansas factory. Truck radial production will be halted for the week beginning October 13, leaving around 500 workers idled without pay. A spokesperson for the employees’ union, the United Steelworkers, said the shutdown is taking place due to an overabundance of unsold truck tyres in Goodyear’s inventory.

Michelin Not Bidding for MotoGP Tyre Supply Contract

Despite stating on September 28 it “notes with interest” the switch to a single tyre supplier for the 2009 MotoGP World Championship, Michelin has decided not to submit a bid to the championship’s governing body. Upon announcing this decision on October 4, the company added that it “regrets not being able to contribute to the organisers’ important discussions to improve rider safety and reduce costs.

Aufine to Output 10 Million Passenger Tyres in 2009

Chinese tyre manufacturer Aufine Group Co., Ltd has announced that it is now developing new ranges of ultra high performance and standard passenger car radial tyres. The company’s passenger car radial manufacturing output volume is expected to total some 10 million units in 2009. According to the company, the new range will be amongst the best quality in the world due to the factory’s cooperation with a tyre company ranked “within the top seven in the world.” Aufine’s new UHP range is expected to initially include 14 sizes ranging 195/45 R15 to 225/40R18 XL. Dozen of standard passenger car sizes will be made available.
