India’s Tata Motors reports its commercial vehicle production has been reduced by between five and ten per cent since January due to a shortage of radial tyres and other key components. This disclosure follows one from Ashok Leyland, who was forced to decrease production by 20 per cent for similar reasons.

Marangoni is celebrating the success of its hill climbing champion, Simone Faggioli, who recently won European Hill Climb Championship for the second time. Faggioli, who drives an Osella FA30 with Zytek 3000-V8 engine and Marangoni Zeta Linea Racing tyres, achieved the feat one race from the end of the 2009 series. The Marangoni sponsored driver last won this European title in 2005, in a similar car again fitted with the Italian company’s race tyres.
Faggioli took the 2009 title after winning six of the eleven stages which make up the European Hill Climb Championship. A slow puncture meant that Faggioli could only manage third place on the fearsome Italian Trento-Bondone stage, but this was won by his Marangoni teammate Davide Baldi.
Bearcat tyres has introduced the Duratough Tyre Watch system to the Australian mining industry. According to a press release, the system comprises of tyre sensors that screw onto the valve stems of tyres and a monitor fitted in the cab. Bearcat reports that the pressure monitors are simple to install. Once installed, the sensors transmit a coded RF signal to alert a drop in pressure and the cab monitor displays each tyre's pressure reading and sends an audible alert if tyre pressure drops.
Continental Tire North America has the US market release of its Continental HTR2, an all-position wide base radial for construction vehicle applications. The HTR2 replaces the HTR wide-base tyre, offering 20 per cent more wear volume than the original, said CTNA. Alliance Tire has added to its lines with new port tyres and all-new mobile crane tyres. The Alliance Port Star (309) is a 14.00-24 28-ply tyre for container handlers, which features high rubber-to-void ratio, wide tread blocks, flat tread face, and a heat-and-cut-resistant compound.
Alliance’s new Mobile Crane Radial (630) 16.00R25, was designed for both off- and on-road applications, and features an all-steel casing, a non-directional tread and a tread compound engineered to minimize heat buildup. (Tire Review/Akron)
Hercules has launched the Hercules Roadtour 655, a new all-season touring radial. Available in both H- and T-rated sizes, the Roadtour 655 features a computer optimized tread for treaction and wear, and a nylon over-wrap for stability and treadlife. “The Hercules Roadtour 655 has one of our most aesthetically pleasing sidewall designs to date,” says Joshua Simpson, vice president of marketing.
The tyre features a distinct sidewall design that includes icons representing fuel efficiency, road handling, noise control, all weather performance and spiral wound nylon over-wrap, the company said. “The sidewall icons act as silent salesmen, communicating the tyres’ benefits to consumers,” said Simpson. The Roadtour 655 is being launched in 24 SKUs covering 14- to 16-inch sizes. Hercules said that H- and V-rated sizes will be added later. (Tire Review/Akron)
