Eurotire has opened up a new location in Karaganda, Kazakhstan. Karaganda is located in Kazakhstan’s northeast mining region, an area rich in both coal and hard rock mining. Seeing as Eurotire’s focus is on providing the world’s emerging mining markets with OTR bias and radial tyres/OTR tyre services, the company obviously saw the value of the latest move.
Introduced in 2002 to give designers around the world an opportunity to promote their work, the Michelin Challenge Design programme is now in its tenth year. During this time the number of designs submitted has increased some 700 per cent and designers from 98 countries have taken part. Pre-registration for the 2012 Michelin Challenge Design has commenced, and the tyre maker says initial feedback indicates a record year awaits.
Following extensive development testing at its world headquarters in Rocester, Staffordshire, machinery manufacturer JCB has chosen Michelin’s Power CL as an original equipment fitment on its latest 2CX, 3CX and 4CX backhoe loaders. The selection of the Power CL is in addition to the Michelin XMCL which is already the OE radial option.
Titan Tire has introduced a new 27.00R49-sized mining haul truck tyre to meet what it believes is increasing worldwide demand on the back of increased mining activity. The Titan DTE4 radial OTR tyre has a deep lug tread pattern to increase traction and longevity. A popular size for use in coal mining and quarry applications, the tyre is designed with an open tread pattern to promote self-cleaning.
Giti Tire USA has released the GT Radial GSL213, a new long-haul steer axle radial, reports Tire Review. Giti officials said the new GSL213 features “advanced technology and pattern design for outstanding overall performance, resistance to irregular wear and extended mileage.” The GSL213 is now available across North America in sizes 11R22.5 14PR, 295/75R22.5 14PR, 11R24.5 14PR and 285/75R24.5 14PR.
Russian business daily Vedomosti reports that Sibur Holding and Nizhnekamskshina, a Tatneft petrochemical subsidiary, intend to merge their tyre assets to create an entity holding two-thirds of the market share in Russia. While Sibur Russian Tyres general director Vadim Gurinov was quoted as saying no decision has yet been made regarding such a merger, the news that the two companies are in talks was confirmed by a Tatneft official.
Russia’s Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company has signed a contract with Michelin for the exclusive supply of radial aircraft tyres for its latest major project, the Sukhoi Superjet 100 family of regional airliners. The deal was announced at Michelin’s stand during the Farnborough Airshow 2010.
Sibur and a group of lenders represented by Alfa Group's investment division A1 have agreed to make Sibur the bankrupt Amtel's main debtor. “The group of lenders represented by A1 shall assign its rights of demand with regard to Amtel Group’s companies to Sibur,” an official statement released by Sibur reported. The deal is set to close before the end of June 2010.
The Goodyear Farm team is publicising its presence at the annual Cereals show in Royston on 9 and 10 June. According to the company, the team will be highlighting the Optitrac range on its stand, while educating visitors on tyre technology and maintenance.
Goodyear representatives say the new DT818 High Speed (HS) will be at the forefront of the stand. The DT818HS is part of the Optitrac radial drive farm tyre range which comes in 13 popular sizes. High Speed means that the tyres are D speed rated and can operate at speeds up to 44mph (70kph) or at inflation pressures as low as 9psi. At lower operating speeds and for tractors that have a top speed of 25mph (45kph) or 30mph (50kph) these tyres reportedly provide performance advantages being able to carry up to 9.5 per cent more load at same inflation versus the conventional DT818 tyre. Furthermore, DT818 HS can carry the same loads as DT818 at lower inflation pressure thereby, elongating the footprint generating more traction and pull.
Despite the absence of some international visitors due to European flight restrictions, the Bauma 2010 show in Munich, Germany got underway on April 19. The specialist off-road and mining equipment exhibition has attracted a number of exhibitors from the tyre sector, including Bridgestone Europe, who has introduced a number of new sizes to its off-road ranges at Bauma.
The second phase of expansion planned for Bridgestone’s Kitakyushu factory in Fukuoka Prefecture, Japan has begun three months ahead of schedule. In October 2007 Bridgestone Corporation announced a July 2010 date for the next stage of work on the facility, which has been producing large and ultra-large off-the-road radial tyres for construction and mining vehicles since June 2009. Increasing global demand for these large and ultra-large ORR tyres, however, has now seen preparations for second phase expansion plans accelerated and the start of work brought forward to April.
Techking Tires reports that two of its tyres have been approved for OEM fitment on Atlas Copco machinery in China. Its ETSM L5S tyre in size 12.00R24 has been approved for the Atlas Copco ST2D and in size 17.5R25 for the Atlas Copco ST3.5. Both vehicles are electric loaders intended for underground use in mining and construction work.
On March 24 Bekaert held an opening ceremony for its new technical centre in India. Located near Pune in the state of Maharashtra, the centre is intended to provide the company’s customers in India with enhanced technical services in the form of product quality testing, technical assessments and related dedicated assistance.
US company Tire Group International has added a premium radial truck tyre line under the Cosmo brand name to its portfolio of products. With a range of more than 350 sizes in the Light Truck, Truck, Industrial, Agricultural and OTR segment, Cosmo Tire is now offering the following radial truck tyres with additional sizes and patterns under development:
The Da Nang Rubber Joint Stock Company, a subsidiary of the Viet Nam Chemical Group, reports its Board of Directors has approved a project to build a radial truck tyre factory capable of producing 600,000 tyres per annum. The plant, located on a 106,600 square metre site in the Lien Chieu Industrial Zone near Da Nang City, will be competed in stages – the factory is anticipated to enter operation in 2011, with work on the second stage being carried out in 2012 and 2013.
