Infleet Moves Into RAC House

Infleet recently moved its call centre to RAC House adjacent to the M6 Motorway in Walsall, West Midlands. The centre houses vehicle support technology and the company says the move will enhance the roadside tyre breakdown support that Infleet supplies to its fleet customers. Infleet Commercial Director Chris Comport said: “RAC have managed our call referral facility very successfully over the last five years at another location, but when they offered us a move to RAC House in Walsall we had no hesitation in accepting…Short but efficient call centre desk time is crucial in dispatching one of our 700 service providers to a vehicle in distress within a speedy process.”

BatteryChargerStore.co.uk Identifies Top Reasons For Battery Care

New website BatteryChargerStore.co.uk, which offers a range of smart chargers covering cars, motorcycles and other vehicles, has suggested a list of reasons why drivers should undertake regular battery care to get the best out of their battery and keep their vehicle on the road at all times. Maintenance Is Key – Only 30 per cent of unmaintained batteries last for four years – with some lasting just six months, due to insufficient charge. Using a battery charger increases a battery’s lifespan, saving the user money.

Infleet Adds 500th Tyre Store to Network

Tyreforce (North West) Ltd recently took ownership of three new tyre service locations in the North West, with the company’s Southport store becoming the 500th Tyre Store to be enrolled in the Infleet network.
Tyreforce managing director Martin Burrows commented: “We are already a close working partner of Infleet carrying out specialised tyre service work for the RAC Patrol Vans and providing RAC’s fleet customers with Roadside Breakdown and Tyre Maintenance programmes. We are delighted to be able to register Southport and our other two new HiQ Stores in Preston & Manchester with Infleet.”

The Infleet call centre is managed by the RAC and it’s commercial division (RAC Commercial Vehicle Assistance) to provide assistance for its members and its corporate customers. RAC has an unrivalled reputation as one of the UK’s most progressive motoring organisations and Infleet MD Bill Hall says “[RAC] is the ideal partner to help us handle the additional complications of breakdowns and accidents.”

Sainsbury’s Warn Of “Frosting” Crime

With temperatures in many parts of the UK consistently below freezing this week, Sainsbury’s Car Insurance is warning motorists to be on their guard against ‘frosting’ car crime, where opportunist thieves take advantage of drivers who leave their cars unattended whilst warming up the engine. The bank’s research suggests that up to 15,000 households could fall victim to ‘frosting’ this year.

While it is not clear if she was a victim ‘frosting’ Princess Beatrice will be kicking herself after leaving the key to her £17,000 1 Series BMW in the ignition. According to the RAC website Westminster Police are investigating reports the princess’s car was stolen after she left it unlocked with the keys in the ignition.

RAC Holds Recycling Conference

The Rubber Association of Canada is hosting the biennial Rubber Recycling Symposium, with the help of host sponsor Tire Stewardship British Columbia and the Rubber Manufacturers Association. The event will be held in Vancouver, B.C., on Oct. 29-31 at the Four Seasons’ Hotel.

RAC Condemns “Hypermiling”

While fuel-saving measures such as keeping your tyres at the correct pressure and driving intelligently are both praiseworthy and sensible, there are fears that some drivers are going too far in their efforts to improve mileage.

Such motorists are known as “hypermilers” and will try almost anything in their efforts to improve economy. Tactics include tailgating and over-inflating tyres (sometimes by as much as 10 – 15 psi) and coasting in neutral with the engine off. The RAC urges motorists not to copy hypermilers, pointing out that many of the techniques and practices used are unsafe, if not actually illegal. The organisation makes the point that there is a huge difference between being a cost-conscious motorist and a hypermiler.

Seeing Is Believing For Canadian Winter Drivers

Those motorists who have winter tyres fitted to their vehicles need no convincing about how much they improve performance and safety in winter conditions. In a country such as Canada, you might be forgiven for thinking that this would include practically everybody, but it seems not, as the Rubber Association of Canada (RAC), Transport Canada and the Automobile Protection Agency (APA) have got together to produce a set of videos to show just how much better winter tyres are.

Dave Alsop Joins Vacu-Lug as Fleet Sales Director

Vacu-Lug has appointed Dave Alsop as its new Fleet Sales Director. Alsop has spent the majority of his career in the truck industry including 10 years in the contracts division of Scania (GB) Ltd. He has also worked for the RAC and latterly at Euro Auctions UK Ltd where he was involved in the sales of truck, trailer and heavy earth moving equipment. “I am really looking forward to joining the team at Vacu-Lug and growing their extensive Fleet Business” he said “The wide range and type of fleets they manage gives us a great advantage in the market.”

RAC Announces Dates for Be Tire Smart Week

(Akron/Tire Review) Canada’s National Be Tire Smart Week will be held May 14-20, the Rubber Association of Canada announced. Similar to the U.S.’s National Tire safety Week (Apr. 22-28), RAC’s annual Be Tire Smart Campaign is designed to educate Canadian motorists on the benefits of tyre maintenance and its contribution to the environment and our families’ safety on the road.

RAC said that a recent study showed that 70 per cent of Canadians are driving on at least one mis-inflated tyre of which 23 per cent are underinflated by 20 per cent or more.

Canadian tyre retailers can register for the campaign at www.betiresmart.ca and will receive educational materials to distribute to consumers and motorists.

ATS Euromaster Renews Driving School Contract

The nationwide driving school BSM, part of the RAC, has signed a new one-year contract with ATS Euromaster for the provision of new tyres and tyre services. The contract covers BSM’s fleet of over 3,500 dual control vehicles – the largest of its type in the UK.

Kwik-Fit Appoints Phil Preece To Head Insurance-Related Business

Kwik-Fit Fleet has appointed Phil Preece to take charge of its relationships with vehicle insurance companies and bodyshops following the end-of-year retirement of Peter Melville. As business development manager for the insurance/bodyshop sector Mr Preece, who has been Kwik-Fit Fleet’s area sales manager for the Midlands for the past nine years, will be responsible for establishing new and developing already existing business relationships with all major motor insurers.

Avoid Being Stranded With a Flat Battery This Winter

A flat battery is the most common reason for a vehicle failing to start. Once the first real frost strikes this winter thousands of motorists are likely to left stranded. Motorists will be stuck, late for work and waiting for assistance. According to Car Parts Direct, lots of motorists will buy a new car battery they simply do not require. Flat batteries account for almost 20 per cent of all vehicle breakdowns in the UK, according to the AA and RAC. Motorists who drive short journeys, leave headlights on and heaters blowing whilst stood in traffic are most likely to be left stranded. Leaving the interior light on or parking up for prolonged periods in very cold weather is enough to drain the battery. But it’s often just a battery re-charge that’s needed – not a replacement battery.

Bridgestone Study: Women Worst for Tyre Maintenance

More than three quarters of the UK’s women drivers believe that they are driving around safely, when in fact they are dangerously unaware that they are putting their lives and the lives of their passengers at risk. According to a new survey, more than 82 per cent of women motorists believe they have never driven on a tyre which is even slightly unsafe, but less than a quarter of those questioned know what the legal minimum tread depth of their tyres actually is.
