Pyrolysis tyre recycling: Ipswich facility amongst planned Pyrum SPVs

At its recent Annual General Meeting, the first held since the company’s IPO in Oslo and its secondary listing on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, Pyrum Innovations AG shared details of the special purpose vehicles (SPV) that it intends to establish with joint venture partners. It has already announced one of these, a 20,000-tonne pyrolysis plant in Germany, but a further six SPV projects are on the cards – including a facility in the UK.

Pyrum to set up JV pyrolysis plant

German pyrolysis end-of-life tyre recycling specialist Pyrum Innovations AG has established a joint venture to build and operate a pyrolysis plant in Straubing, Bavaria. Together with a trio of partners, it will establish Revalit GmbH, a recycling plant with a capacity to process 20,000 tonnes of tyres per annum. Pyrum holds a 25 per cent share in the joint venture, as do Munich-based firms MCapital GmbH, Textor GmbH and Auer Holding GmbH. The plan is to have the facility operational by 2024.

EcoVadis awards Pyrum silver status

An inaugural assessment by EcoVadis has resulted in a Silver Medal for Pyrum Innovations AG. The sustainability ratings provider awarded Pyrum, which has patented a pyrolysis technology for the sustainable recycling of end-of-life tyres, an overall score of 59 points. This places Pyrum amongst the worldwide top 25 per cent of all companies in its industry assessed by EcoVadis.

Pyrum Innovations, Siemens begin technology partnership

Through a new partnership agreement with the Siemens technology group, Pyrum Innovations AG anticipates the further promotion, optimisation and scaling of its pyrolysis plants for processing end-of-life tyres (ELT). Pyrum will utilise technology from Siemens’ digitalisation and automation portfolios, with Siemens supporting Pyrum and its customers in the selection of optimal process automation, process analytics, drive and digitalisation technologies, amongst other things.

Pelletiser aiding Pyrum’s rCB processing

In addition to gaining ISO 9001 certification, Pyrum Innovations has started test operation of a new pelletiser at its plant site in Dillingen, Germany. The pelletiser enables the recovered carbon black (rCB) obtained via the pyrolysis process to be bonded into pellets, which increases their transportability and facilitates the further processing of the raw material.

Pyrum quality management system gains ISO 9001 certification

Pyrolysis-based end-of-life tyre (ELT) recycling specialist Pyrum Innovations AG has received ISO 9001 certification for its quality management in the scope of ELT recycling, production and sales of the resulting products, research and development of new input materials and products, and plant design and construction. Passing this audit confirms the German company’s implementation of and compliance with the quality management system according to DIN EN ISO 9001:2015.

Eldan & Pyrum intensify tyre recycling, pyrolysis collaboration

Under an expanded cooperation, end-of-life tyre (ELT) recycling equipment manufacturer Eldan Recycling A/S and pyrolysis technology developer Pyrum Innovations AG will include each other’s products in their complete recycling solutions. The Danish and German firms say they’ll distribute these solutions “actively”.

Pyrum Innovations appoints CFO, extends Klein’s CEO remit

Pyrolysis end-of-life tyre recycler Pyrum Innovations AG has appointed Kai Winkelmann its chief financial officer. Starting 1 April 2022, the company’s former commercial director takes on the role for a period of three years. Winkelmann has also joined the Pyrum Executive Board.

Continental and Pyrum sign development agreement, recovered carbon black supply deal

Continental AG has signed a development agreement with tyre pyrolysis firm Pyrum Innovations. Continental has held “a strategic minority stake” in Pyrum since its IPO in 2021. The new deal means, among other things, high-quality recovered carbon black (rCB) is to be obtained for Continental’s tyre production. Continental’s subsidiary, Reifen-Entsorgungsgesellschaft (REG), will begin supplying end-of-life tyres from the premium manufacturer to Pyrum this month. In the long term, the aim is to establish a circular economy concept for the recycling of end-of-life tyres.

BlackCycle announces first sustainable carbon black production

After its first 18 months of existence, members of the BlackCycle R&D project met at Michelin’s technology centre in Ladoux, France on 22 November for the consortium’s first workshop. Some 120 international industry leaders, academics, H2020 project coordinators, politicians, and institutional representatives from 20 countries exchanged ideas and discussed the deployment of circular economy initiatives in Europe.

Pyrum to supply Continental from expanded pyrolysis plant

German end-of-life tyre recycling specialist Pyrum Innovations AG has started expanding production capacity within the pyrolysis plant at its headquarters site in Dillingen, Saarland. The expansion will add two further production lines to the single line that’s been operating since May 2020 and has to date produced pyrolysis oil, recovered carbon black (rCB) and pyrolysis gas from more than 7,000 tonnes of waste tyres.
