With a technical background that includes a stint as a motorsport technician working in the UK 30 years ago, Yokohama’s president went on to share further details of exactly how the new tyre surpasses its predecessor. To improve steering stability, a new "Matrix Body Ply Structure" was developed employing technology fostered through participation in world motorsports. According to the company, weight was reduced while rigidity was maintained, producing more agile handling and more comfortable ride, although this upgrade is not available on all sizes in the range. Meanwhile the asymmetrical, non-directional tread pattern – inside for enhanced performance on wet surfaces, outside for dry – features a new compound created to provide “exceptional” grip.

Stapleton’s offers iPad prizes in Primewell promotion

Stapleton’s Tyre Services is offering a 32GB iPad every week until Christmas as part of a Primewell Key Dealer promotion. Any Primewell Key Dealer ordering at least 12 tyres during a single week from the Ultra High Performance, High Performance, Comfort and Van tyre ranges will be automatically entered into a weekly draw that runs from 1 October to 14 December 2012.

Pirelli runs F1 promotion through Performance Centres

Pirelli has launched a new initiative in collaboration with its Pirelli Performance Centres (PPCs). Open to those purchasing two or more premium Pirelli tyres, customers will be entered into a prize draw to win a grandstand ticket for next year’s British Grand Prix, as well as a tour of Red Bull Racing in Milton Keynes and exclusive Pirelli clothing. The promotion runs at the UK and Ireland’s 85 PPCs throughout the months of September and October.

Talking road safety? Say it with puppets

Life-sized puppets play a key role in a new road safety promotion jointly staged by Michelin and vehicle leasing/fleet managing company Arval. As part of its corporate social responsibilities, Arval is working with the tyre maker to get the road safety message across to teenagers near its Swindon head office. The puppet show will be presented to Swindon College and Royal Wootton Bassett Sixth Form in September.

Guinness time for Yokohama following cowboy hat promotion

Yokohama Tire has taken part in a uniquely American promotion that ended up in the Guinness Book of World Records. The tyre maker sponsors the Los Angeles Angels baseball team, and at a game against a team from Texas in early June the team handed out Yokohama-branded cowboy hats to fans. During the fifth inning, the 39,013 fans in attendance were certified as the “largest gathering of people wearing cowboy hats,” topping the old Guinness record of 500.

The figure far surpasses attendance expectations and secures the event's status as the single largest and most comprehensive conference and trade show serving the tyre, service and restyling industries.

Bosch improves US automotive aftermarket website

Bosch has redesigned its automotive aftermarket website – boschautoparts.com – primarily to “improve visitor engagement and ease of use,” Tire Review reports. The site is “more visually engaging and especially easy to navigate,” Bosch claimed, and “covers a wide range of product lines, special promotions, motorsports, Bosch Gear, a vehicle part finder, and a local parts store locator.”

Michelin Restaurants site launched

A beta version of the Michelin Restaurants website has gone live, and the French company welcomes the involvement of online users and restaurant operators in finalising the site. Michelin explains that the http://restaurant.michelin.fr site – at present the Michelin Restaurants concept only covers France – offers a multi-criteria search engine that allows users to choose a restaurant corresponding to their desires and budget.

Pirelli, Tyrespot promo winners visit Milan

Two Tyrespot customers have enjoyed an all expenses paid trip to Milan, thanks to a joint promotion run with Pirelli. Graham and Sheila Patterson from Chester-le-Street, County Durham won the prize, including flights, hotel, transfers and tickets to Pirelli-sponsored Inter Milan, having entered the competition by buying Pirelli’s premium tyres at the largest independent tyre supplier in North East England.

Haweka UK offers free CV alignment checks

Haweka UK has announced that it will offer one free alignment check to dealers and CV/PSV operators with over 20 vehicles. The promotion is to encourage those fleets considering bringing wheel alignment in-house, and will feature Haweka’s new Axis200 wheel alignment machine. Every free check undertaken Haweka will provide a detailed print out to the customer of adjustments required and any necessary recommendations.

Infinity organises tyre check training for Nigeria Customs

Infinity Tyres has helped to organise a tyre identification awareness training programme with Nigeria’s Custom Service in Lagos. Infinity said it had identified the Nigeria Customs Service as a suitable gateway for checking the authenticity and quality of tyres brought into the country in the interest of “improving safety” on the country’s roads.

Infinity promotes 2012 marketing strategy

Infinity has announced plans to expand and customise its DNA campaign to fit the national markets where it operates. The company describes its new campaign as featuring “iconic monuments re-interpreted using an Infinity Tyre.” In addition Infinity has revealed that the company will run a competition which will include trips to some very exciting destinations. Prizes will include trips to some very exciting destinations.

Infinity’s Nigerian promotion

Infinity Tyres has completed its tenth annual December promotion in Nigeria. Themed as “Value Drive”, the company distributed scratch-cards after any tyre or battery purchase from its 11 nationwide outlets. Vikas Bahl, Infinity Tyres’ head of Marketing, said that in previous years: “we have organized successful promos and we have seen their effect on our customers, their countenance, and consequently, their loyalty to the brand. We believe that our customers are highly valuable and for this reason, their loyalty to Infinity Tyres should be appreciated at the end of every year, through programmes like this”.

RH Claydon manager retires

Jim Parker retired on 18 November 2011 after 37 years in the tyre industry. Parker initially joined Kleber in 1974 as a tyre fitter for its competition department. During his time at Kleber, he took on various job roles including being in charge of the day to day running of the competition department and attending most major rally and race meetings, assisting the tyre manufacturer to six consecutive years of winning the production saloon car and production sports car championships. According to the company, Jim Parker was instrumental in the development of the radial race tyre, which was used intensively on tarmac rally events.

Exeter motorist wins a weekend in Barcelona

Thanks to a recent promotion run by County Tyres and Continental, motorist Danny Henkus from Chudleigh in Devon has won a long weekend to Barcelona including £200 spending money. The promotion, which required customers to purchase Continental tyres, ran at all County Tyre retail branches between August and September and Dany Henkus bought his tyres and entered the competition at the Exeter branch of County Tyres.
