Barum Dealers Win Big

Barum Tyres has announced the winners of its recent dealer promotion which saw a mixture of high-tech goodies up for grabs as a reward for tyre sales. Dealers were split into three categories to make it a fair competition, giving all dealers, regardless of spending, the chance to win.

Right Cars based in Ayrshire won the Category A prizes, which included a laptop computer, PSP Base Unit, remote control car and iPod Shuffle. Predominantly dealing in car sales, Right Cars fit the Barum brand to their vehicles and has been a customer for over ten years. Workshop manager Andrew Smith, accepted the prizes on behalf of his team of twelve staff members. The prizes were presented by Richard McCormick, Business Development Director for Viking International, exclusive distributors of Barum Tyres.

Hayes Lemmerz Names Yost Executive Vice President

Hayes Lemmerz International has promoted vice president, finance and chief financial officer to the position of executive vice president and chief financial officer. Along with gaining the world “executive” to his title Mr. Yost is responsible for the company’s global finance and information technology functions, and will continue to report to Curtis J. Clawson, president, chief executive officer and chairman of the board.

The global wheel and automotive component manufacturer states that Mr. Yost has strengthened the company’s finance team and enhanced internal accounting controls across the Company. Furthermore, Hayes Lemmerz gives Mr. Yost much credit for the success of the recent equity rights offering and debt refinancing, which raised new equity, retired high cost debt, and strengthened the company’s balance sheet.

Deldo Sales Reach Record Levels

Belgium based wholesaler Deldo Autobanden has released its sales figures for the first six months of this year, and claim the results highlight the company’s strong performance and year by year growth. During 2007 Deldo has already attained half-year record sales of more than 3,400,000 tyres, and many European dealerships for Deldo’s exclusive Wanli, Sunny and Fortuna brands have been established. The development of dealers has also been boosted by a specific marketing promotion program launched in December 2006.

The wholesaler states they have been ‘happy’ with pre sales of winter tyres, despite many of their clients still holding considerable stock. Deldo states their pre sales of Wanli and Sunny tyres, for which more than 80 studdable and non-studdable sizes are available, have reached 65 per cent.

Toyo Tyres and a Happy Meal, Please

(Akron/Tire Review) Buy a Happy Meal, get a set of Toyos. Very, very small Toyos.

In a new licensing deal with McDonald’s, replica Toyo Proxes 4 and Open Country A/T will grace two of eight Fly Wheels toys that will be packaged with Happy Meals or Mighty Kids Meals during a promotion that runs through Aug. 2.

“We are excited to have our brand associated with McDonald’s,” said Steve Weinger, senior vice president of sales and marketing for Toyo Tire (U.S.A.) Corp. “This promotion featuring Fly Wheels provides a great opportunity to further Toyo’s brand awareness with today’s young families.”

Michelin Puts Media Buying Under One Roof

(Akron/Tire Review) Michelin North America has taken its North American media planning and buying business and consolidated at a single agency. The estimated $112 million account was placed with MediaCom, a unit of WPP Group. The move, which includes MNA’s Michelin, BFGoodrich and Uniroyal tyre brands, as well as Michelin’s maps and travel guides and MNA’s TCI tire distribution unit. The media planning and buying efforts, once spread around multiple advertising agencies, includes all trade and consumer advertising.

Advertising and promotion creative work reportedly will remain with those agencies currently in place.

Kumho Launches Aroma Tyre in Detroit

(Akron/Tire Review) On July 1, Kumho Tire USA will start a marketing campaign in Detroit to officially launch its Ecsta DX aroma tyre. The multimedia campaign, which will include a rebate promotion, Internet advertising, newspaper ads, billboards and radio spots, will cover the Detroit metro area and most of Michigan, including Ann Arbor, Flint, Port Huron and Toledo, Ohio.

Kumho will also run print ads in regional editions of several national magazines, including Business Week, Forbes, Fortune, Inc., Money, Parenting, Family Fun, U.S. News & World Report, Time, Newsweek and Sports Illustrated. Additionally, Kumho will have a presence at select Detroit-area events this summer, including the Woodward Dream Cruise and the Detroit Grand Prix American Le Mans Series race.

Gislaved Offers Dealer Incentives

Gislaved Tyres has announced the winners of its most recent dealer competition, in which it offered portable DVD players for up to five staff at the winning dealership as a reward for an increase in tyre purchases. The promotion was launched in the first quarter of the year, giving all Gislaved dealers the chance to win.

Brian Sugar of Industrial Tyre Service Ltd in Somerset, a Gislaved dealer for the last five years, came in first place. Brian commented, “The promotion was a great way to motivate staff and the DVD players were a fantastic bonus.” The prizes were presented by Kevin Peck, Sales Director for Viking International.

Viking Rewards Dealers for Tyre Sales

Viking Tyres recently introduced a new dealer-based reward programme, and to mark the occasion has embarked on a number of promotions giving all Viking dealers the opportunity to win prizes as a bonus for their tyre sales. The winner of the recent iPod dealer promotion, launched in January this year, was Nigel Hennessey of the Buckingham Tyre and Exhaust Centre. The dealership is a family run business and has been a Viking customer for many years.

Nigel and a further three members of staff were awarded with the popular 30GB Apple iPods as a reward for their Viking sales in the first quarter of the year. They were presented with their prizes by Kevin Peck, Sales Director, for Viking International. “The iPods are great and it’s a fantastic extra to receive from Viking as a reward for our business,” commented Nigel upon receiving his prize. Viking Tyres, exclusive to Viking International, has recently launched another promotion that sees an additional bundle of prizes up for grabs.

New Marketing Campaign for Goodyear India

Goodyear India has launched a new marketing campaign centred upon the theme “Take the winning turn” as part of an overall marketing strategy aimed at strengthening its position within India’s consumer replacement market. This campaign kicks off with a new television commercial focusing upon Goodyear’s association with a new movie, Ta Ra Rum Pum, the story of a Nascar driver who fights the odds to become a champion. Goodyear was an obvious choice as a partner in the making of this movie, having been the sole provider of tyre equipment to Nascar since 1997. The company recently signed a deal with Nascar to extend its exclusive association until 2012.

The television commercial, which also emphasises the tyremaker’s 50-year association with Nascar championships, began to be screened in India during the last week of April. The advertisement showcases the “Eagle” range of tyres, which are fitted to Nascar vehicles and in the movie help the star, Saif Ali Khan, to become a champion driver. Products from the Eagle range are available in India both as replacement market tyres and as OE for some premium models, such as all Mercedes Benz cars sold in India.

Michelin Tempts Aircraft Tyre Buyers

On April 1 Michelin Aircraft Tire Company in the US launched a promotion through its Authorized Service Centers intended to lure potential customers over to the French brand. The “Upgrade to Michelin” program tempts customers with an 20 per cent instant rebate should they choose to convert all the main landing gear tyres on their aircraft from a competitor’s brand to Michelin. Those converting all main and nose landing gear tyres on their aircraft will receive a 25 per cent discount on the purchase price of their Michelin tyres.

Terry Schultz, director of general aviation sales for the Michelin Aircraft Tire Company believes that the program “challenges existing centres to utilise the tools and resources we have designed to expand their sales and receive rewards in return.” The offer covers purchases of Michelin AIR X, Michelin Air, and Michelin Aviator products.

Bridgestone Plans New Thailand Proving Ground

Thai Bridgestone Co. Ltd has been granted official approval from the Thailand Board of Investment to establish a new proving ground. The company intends to construct a facility for the purpose of enhancing Bridgestone’s research and development capabilities in Thailand, and it is hoped this new centre will improve the speed and efficiency of testing for both the OE and aftermarket sectors. Additionally, the proving ground will also be used for both internal and external sales promotion and training and safety education activities.

Thai Bridgestone does not intend for the new facility to only serve Thailand’s domestic market. It also plans to utilise the facility for developing and evaluating tyres for the Asia and Pacific markets. The new proving ground is needed to supplement Thai Bridgestone’s current proving ground, opened in 1996 and located adjacent to the company’s Nongkhae factory, as this facility is currently struggling to keep up with future market requirements due to increasing vehicle ownership levels throughout the Asia/Pacific regions. The new and larger-scale proving ground will be suitable for the development of the next generation of high-performance tyres, which will be evaluated at the facility.
